Arrived Friday, May 1st, 09 for 3 nights. Yes, the off season. Primary purpose of trip was to visit my sister who lives in Vail. (lucky gal!) My mother, other sister, 16 month old neice and I were welcomed and we asked about upgrading to a suite room, instead of the double we reserved. Of course, in the off season, there was availability and they gave us a fair price on a nice king suite.
The room was great! It had the separate king room with large bath. Single sink with separate LARGE whirlpool tub and shower stall. Very nice furnishings and loved the wood everywhere you look. There was also a "hall" half bath which proved beneficial for us 3 ladies. The living room area had a large dining table, pennisula/bar area and a decent sized kitchen (which my sis from Vail said is larger than most kitchens in vail apartments!!!) The living area also had a fireplace and small sofa with fold-out bed. Sis and baby slept out there with the crib (very clean). I can't forget to mention the huge closets, as big as basic home closets. We stayed on 4th floor and had a great view of the empty mountain. It was weird to be there in off season, usually travel in ski season or summer. No gondola ride this trip.
I would stay here again. The rate was friends and family for $150/ night ($700 is the rack rate) It is expensive and I wasn't quite prepared to pay the $21 daily valet and tipping too! (I am a lover of all inclusives south of the border, so this reminded me there are nice places with great service in the states too!)
You can park at the lionshead parking structure, but it would take 5 mins to walk over there, if you are in healthy shape (love that high altitude)
My sister and I used the hot tub on Sun evening - NO ONE ELSE in the pool or hottub. The outdoor one was closed. Other than the maintenance guy doing checks on the tub which briefly caused cold water to come through the jets (WOW) it was fine.
This hotel seemed large, I know I didn't see half of it; conference area, etc. OH yeah, very nice fitness center and equipment. The restaraunt looked nice, but we didn't eat there. Ate at Pazzos in vail village, then gore range brewery down in edwards and also the Avondale at the westin in beaver creek. All good places
Enjoy your stay.
