“Great Location/Take the Bus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2008

We planned this vacation with our two adult children so we booked two rooms. The location was great and once you got to the hotel you don't need a car for anything - although they did have two volvos that could be checked out and used by registered guest complimentary.
My only problem with the hotel was getting there. Since we were arriving at three different times, our trip from the vail airport to the hotel was going to cost us approximately $400 dollars without tips. We found out that there is a city bus that picks you up at the airport (right next to the Colorado Mountain Express vans) and drops you about 50 yards from the entrance to the hotel for $3.00 each way!!! That was the best deal in vail. You need to call the bus company and get their schedule. We had to wait 5 minutes for our bus to arrive but we actually left before the CME vans. I called the hotel several times and not one person mentioned the bus even after I asked if there was a more economical way to arrive.

I stayed here for Christmas. I arrived a little late but fortunatly I call before. I recived a lodge room that I think that is was going to be bigger and the only bigger thing was the bathroom, it had a bath tub and a shower, very nice but in general the room was little but with a balcony and view for the mountains(I asked to the concierge to have a view room).
The hotel in general is nice and comfortable, the served cookies and hot chocalate in the afternoon, but there´s also a Starbucks store in the hotel. The ocotillo restaurant is nice, I have breackfeast there like 3 times and one time dinner.
The internet in the room cost like 10 dollars per day, but there´s one wireless free in the lobby.
There´s a swimming pool, but like in most of the hotels they put too much the special liquid and is little, but fortunely there´s a playroom with machines is not like a Gameworks, but it´s good for the children.
The location of this hotel is very good, there´s a bus stop in front of the Marriot to vail village, lionshead plaza,etc.. but its also near the gondola , like a 5 minute walking.
The only problems that I have with the hotel was with the valet parking, that it was supossed to charge it to the room, but a man told us that we need to pay in cash, but then we see our room bill and it was charged, and we ask for them to give us the money and they don´t give us anything.

  • Disliked — the price of the room and the valet parking.

The Vail Marriott does what most good Marriots do these days. good, sizeable room , good (but not great ) position, good amenities and facilities. Not intimate, but very good staff all round. Parking is a nightmare but other than that no complaints at all. Vail is just wonderful.

I stayed at Vail Marriott for two nights at a rate of $149 per night so no complaints there although other than the fact that it's close to the ski area, I can't find anything else so impressive about this hotel that would qualify as a 4 diamond resort.

Also becareful when you valet (not that you have any other choice), it
took them at least 30 min or more each time they bring in my car. Its
daily valet rate of $25 seems excessive since all they do is leave
your car outside lot in the cold weather. Overall, I would choose to stay elsewhere even if I have to pay more.

The hotel is just like the website beautiful. The staff is extrememly nice, the bed is great, the outdoor hot tub is awesome. the restaurant makes a great breakfast buffet that i really recommend before a day out on the slopes. i thought that hotel is a perfect ski hotel and at least you can collect marriott points with the extremely high rates. The only complaint i have is the walk to the nearest lift. They claim its 150 yards to the gondola. that is the longest 150 yards of my life. Its an honest three minute walk which trying to juggle kids and walk in ski boots still seemed ALOT longer than they claim. Still its walkable and no bus is needed. I personally prefer skiing in utah and there are much better hotels there but if you must be in over priced and over crowded vail i recommend this hotel its the best.

The hotel is beautiful AND i highly recommend, its the best i have seen or stayed at in Vail.

  • Liked — comfortable bed you will sleep well
  • Disliked — long walk to the lift when they make it sound slopeside

The Vail Marriott is truly a disgrace to the Marriott brand as a whole. Traditionally speaking, Marriott (although sometimes basic) delivers a product that is consistent and service focused. We found our experience to be quite the opposite in every way.
The property is located in the heart of Vail, just minutes from the main skiing areas, boutiques, and restaurants. Do not have expectations for a true "resort" experience however, similar to the neighboring areas of Beaver Creek or Bachelor Gulch. The Marriott is less than one minute from the main interstate, leaving you with the impression that you're staying at a roadside hotel, rather than a secluded ski resort.
Upon arrival, we were genuinely unimpressed with the lobby area, as it was quite dark and uninspiring. The lobby bar resembled that of an airport hotel.
Guest rooms were the epitome of standard, and perhaps the smallest of any resort I had seen in quite some time. Our particular rooms looked over the courtyard, which was no more than a rooftop generator and several skylight windows from the restaurant below. Our rooms were outfitted with small bathrooms with shower/tub combos and standard Marriott amenities. The beds were comfortable, and appeared to be newer as compared to other amenities throughout the hotel.
The front desk management was absolutely horrid. We originally booked two nights, and prepaid these nights accordingly. Just one week prior to our arrival at the hotel, we decided to add one additional night. After our first evening however, we decided that we were only going to stay two nights based on our initial impression of the hotel and a long list of issues on our first night. We politely explained our discontent with the hotel, and expressed our frustration with room service, size of our room etc. Despite all of our issues, we were told that we would be charged for all three nights even if we departed early. Never have I encountered such incredibly rude service, and a lack of apology. Clearly this hotel has issues with their cancellation policy, evident by the numerous complaints on this site.
After further inquiry, we discovered that this hotel is in fact a franchise, which may explain the reason behind such awful management.
All in all, I would suggest exploring other Vail hotels, or consider one of the many resorts in Beaver Creek. The Park Hyatt Beaver Creek (although slightly more expensive) offers a far superior experience, and service to match.

We stayed here on a whim on a weekend in October. They have a $99 AAA rate during the offseason, and free parking and gas card. THe hotel common areas are nice, reminiscent of what a great ski lodge should be. Bar is lively and the pool and hottub were a lot of fun. The room we had was tiny (barely enough room to walk around, let alone sit comfortably). Bathroom had some nice touches like nice tile and a granite slab sink, but the wallpaper was coming off the walls. The restaurant downstairs has a great brunch. Concierge made some questionable recommendations for dinner, I thought, but otherwise was capable and friendly enough.

  • Liked — Bar and restaurant, location in Lionshead
  • Disliked — Room was tiny.
