“Vail Racquet Club, Sanctuary off the Vail-Strip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2009

Vail, Colorado is definitely a dream for every skier, this popular resort consistently hits the top of folks' lists for best ski area while at the same time taking hits for being too pricey and over hyped. The Vail Racquet Club is the perfect answer and already an insider tip for every Vail visitor. Vail Racquet Club is only a fifteen-minute drive from the center of Vail. Easy to travel to and from using the free town shuttle bus that runs approx every twelve minutes. What you find is a little sanctuary away from the the huzzle and buzzle. After a day of vigorous skiing I couldn’t wait getting back to my lovely and cozy condo. The Vail Racquet Club is more than a club, more than a hotel; it’s a little sanctuary. The lovely staff makes you feel right at home. The Club facilities are amongst the best in all Vail. There is a huge outdoor heated pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, gym, onsite restaurant and bar. The Bistro Restaurant is a local favorite. …A wonderful place to stay, maybe they should change to name to Vail Sanctuary, whatever it is, I will be back!

We stayed at the Vail Racquet Club last week and really enjoyed it.

The only negative to the VRC is the need to use buses if you don't have a car. The VRC is on the East Vail bus route. It was quite an ordeal to get to the grocery store. The nearby Sims Market is not much more than a convenience store. The nearest real grocery stores (Safeway or City Market) are on the West Vail bus loops. You have to transfer at the Vail Transportation Center.

We stayed here for four nights over Presidents' Day weekend in a 2 BR/2BA with a loft with 2 additional single beds. The unit itself was nice, roomy, and very functional. Highlights included a wood stove, large deck and grill which we did not use. Management supplied us with wood and fire starter free of charge. The facilities were the best part. Outstanding and very large in ground hot tub and nice all season pool. The gym had great equipment as well. I also liked the store which had some very nice, sporty workout/lounging clothes at good discounts. The chief complaint was that we were on the 3rd floor which was quite deadly for the less fit of our group, particularly on day 1 with the change in altitude. Also, it is a 10 minute drive to Vail -- no very convenient for those in our party who wanted to go carouse late at night. Overall, a very pleasant experience at a good price point.

I recently stayed here with a large school group and thought the rooms were very spacious and nice, the kitchens are stocked and the service was excellent. It's a perfect place for a family. However I thought it was way too far from the mountain, and if you can spend the extra bucks or are happy with a smaller place, I'd suggest staying closer to Vail Village. The Racquet Club is a good 25-30 minutes on a packed East Vail shuttle bus. But it does come often and is easy to catch.

Amazing stay for a beautiful wedding at the Vail Racquet Club! Gorgeous grounds, wonderful staff, amazing views of a waterfall and mountains (and the river!). Would recommend anyone to stay there, am already trying to plan a group ski trip for the winter there. Definitely ask about the hiking trails in the area (several great ones, including one to the waterfall across the street). The pool is very convenient too, its heated, so even though it is summer, you can stay in the pool all day in the rocky mountains.

The issue with this accomodation is that the name is misleading and when you call for a reservation that may not tell up they are in East Vail which may be a problem is you wish to be closer to the things going on in Vail. If you are willing to drive then this may not be an issue.

The good news is that the Racquet Club condos offer a reasonable amount of space at what (for Vail) is a competitive price, and the leisure facilities are excellent. The bad news is that the bus journey to the ski slopes takes 25 minutes - you could stay in cheaper accommodation in Avon or even Frisco and drive to Vail Village in the same time on the Interstate. The other bad news is that the Interstate runs about 50 yards away from the property and most of the bedrooms face on to it, so if you are not used to traffic noise when you are trying to sleep this may not be the place for you.

  • Liked — Nice pool and hot tub
  • Disliked — 25 minute bus ride from Vail Village
