“Best place in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Lovely place, we ate here three times in a week and it was consistently good. Even if something didn't sound great on menu, it didn't matter, everything was always delicious. Great spot to have lunch.

“Nice dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Sweet Basil is well located. The staff was attentive and service was very good. There were 8 of us for dinner and we each ordered different items from the menu. Everyone enjoyed their meal although one meal could have been served warmer.

“Good Food and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

My husband and I travel to Vail each year and eating at Sweet Basil is a must each time. We always have a great time and the food is good. The prices are average for a restaurant of this type. If you're looking for a good meal definitely stop by this restaurant.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

We celebrated our anniversary at Sweet Basil and we were not disappointed. The service was impeccable and the food sublime. It was everything we wanted our celebration to be. The food is inventive but not over the top. Great location in Vail Village. Don't miss it.

“good food, but restaurant is over-hyped”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

My husband and I chose this restaurant for dinner during our one night in Vail based on the many excellent reviews. The food was quite good, although certainly not the most innovative, memorable meal that we've ever had. Our meal here was expensive so our expectations were higher in accordance with the cost. We ordered foie gras for a starter, then I had the scallops a la plancha as my main course while my husband had the duck. Having lived in France, Switzerland, and Sonoma County, CA (before the CA foie gras ban), we've developed a taste for foie gras and were delighted to see it on the menu. The seared foie gras itself was delicious, although the confit strawberries and strawberry and rose consommé that accompanied it was a bit too sweet for our taste. The scallops and duck main courses were both very good, but not over the top. Our dessert was good, but not as good as I was expecting from the menu description. We ordered a dessert item to share that consisted of house made doughnut holes with a butterscotch pudding and a coffee milkshake. The doughnuts were nice and light, but I was hoping for a richer butterscotch flavor in the pudding, and the milkshake was really just coffee flavored milk. Although good, this dessert item wasn't quite as good as it could have been. At over $100 per person for dinner before tax and tip (2 aperitifs, one starter to share, two main courses, one dessert to share, and one of the lower priced bottles of wine on the menu) we found the meal a bit overpriced. At those prices, we would have expected at least an amuse bouche or some little extra accompaniment to be offered with our aperitif. The wine menu was very extensive, but we found it a bit pricey as well. In conclusion, although the food and service was very good, we wouldn't go out of our way to return as we found the price-quality ratio a bit skewed to the high price side.
