“Beautiful and roomy 2 and 3 bedrooms, excellent service and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2014

Small boutique hotel/condos w excellent service and rooms that are outfitted with the best! This is our second stay at Austria Haus. It is conveniently located and the European breakfasts that are included are excellent. They make you feel welcomed and it has been a joy to take our family there! Thank you Austria Haus!

This hotel was absolutely beautiful. We visited Vail in the summer at the end of our week long CO trip. It was perfect. The staff were so wonderful, the room was so warm and inviting, and the pool and hot tub were quiet and relaxing with a breathtaking view. The breakfast was spectacular- lots of variety including an enormous bowl of fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries to put on top of your waffles. Yum! The unique charm of this hotel made it become one of my favorites. Loved every second of it and didn't want to leave.

Dear Jennifer M,
I was extremely happy to read this review and have since shared it with all the staff members here at the Austria Haus. The Austrai Haus is nestled right in the heart of Vail and sits right along the Gore creek this makes our views and atmosphere amazing while sitting in the hot tub after an amazing day of activities up in the mountains. With our property being a smaller boutique style hotel it really allows our guest feel the charm that they seek when visiting Vail, so when I read that you loved the charm I was happy that our efforts did not go unnoticed. We hate to see our guest leave as well especially when they are having an amazing trip. We hope you are able to make it back again soon so we may get the chance to make more memorable experiences.
Best Regards,

We took a mini trip to Vail and selected the Austria Haus hotel. It appears to be part hotel/ part residence club. Residence clubs I believe are fractional ownership/time shares. That said there was absolutely no time share sales pitch. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is well maintained and I saw no evidence of worn out articles or things in need of repair. Our room did not include a fireplace and was sized for two people. There were no burned out light bulbs or broken switches. The room was spotless and maintained. Breakfast was included and there was always something different each day. Don't expect IHOP breakfasts but do expect fresh, healthy and filling meals. The pool/hot tub was in great shape though small given the hotel size so you might run into a seating issue. There is nothing I could point to that I would say was unacceptable. The Vail village is served by a bus system that moves you throughout the area so you do not necessarily need a car, though prices are higher in the village.

I rated the hotel as 4 stars (though I would have given it 4.5) based upon a couple of opportunities for improvement. First, the breakfast area is a bit crowded with the furniture needed to seat the guests. This can make for some interesting travels as you move from the food locations, past others to your table. Second, the location of the bath towels was hidden when the bathroom door and the privy door were open. I ended up drying off with a hand towel until I found the bath towels. What was interesting was a towel bar was inside the shower area and was stocked with hand towels and wash cloths but no bath towels. The shower area has a deep soaker tub but that also means getting up and over the tub to get into the shower. All in all though these are observations not problems. I'd definitely book the Austria Haus agin when returning to Vail.

Dear JEFFREY S,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. The Austria Haus is in fact a private residence club that offers fractional ownership (with our any pitch) and a Hotel. The constant ins and out of the owner of the club side and the attention to detail that comes from the hotel side really keeps the property as a whole well maintained. Our location nestled in Vail village is the Ideal spot, with public transportation and the close proximity to everything, once you arrive like you said there is no reason to use your car. Thank you for your suggestions we really do value all feedback from our guest, I will be sure to advise the breakfast crew and the housekeeping department with your suggestions. We hope to get the pleasure to host you again soon.
Best regards,

From the minute we walked in the door, the staff at Austria Haus was attentive, charming and very accomadating. The rooms were outstanding, beds were heaven, and the breakfast was perfect. The hot tub and pool overlook the river and the village. Close to all! I will recommend to all my friends.

We were able to get a deal by booking the same day.

I will be back!!

Dear starfish100,
Wow “superb” Ill be sure to pass this on to the entire staff here at the Austria Haus! Everyone here takes great pleasure and pride when it comes to customer service, so when we hear “attentive, charming and very accommodating” it’s extremely motivating. I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed one of my favorite areas of the hotel, the hot tub and pool that sits right along side of the gore creek looking out to the village. In the summer it’s a great way to spend the day in the amazing Colorado sun, and in the winter with the hot tub and pool both heated it’s a great day to rehab your muscles after an amazing day on the mountain. We hope you come visit us again soon!
Thank you,

It would be easy for any hotel with this great location to let itself slide on the amenities and service side of things, but Austria Haus delivers on all accounts. Being in the Vail Village area, it's walking distance from LOTS of shops, cafes, and restaurants (all but one of them--Red Lion--severely overpriced, but what can you expect when you're in Vail?) and is directly below the Vail transit station which makes getting anywhere else in the Vail/Avon area extremely easy. Aside from the location the service is quite good, the included breakfast is above average, and the rooms are very nice. Our room (214) was just a simple king bed facing the opposite of the mountain/town/ski runs, but it had all the little things that turn an average (but "expensive") room into something more. Simple examples: dimmer switch on the bathroom lights so you could leave a light on at night and not be blinded in the middle of the night and a HUGE in-room safe. Bed was firm but comfortable, but the air conditioning unit was located directly above the bed which wasn't ideal. The only problem we had was that the pillows (and possibly comforter) were down, and my wife has pretty bad allergies...and even though we asked for non-down pillows after the first night, we didn't get them for our second (and last) night. There's no parking onsite, you have to valet your car, which is not only an inconvenience but also something I don't like doing because I don't like feeling "forced" to tip somebody to simply park and then deliver my car to me, but again because you're in Vail Village, there's not a lot of other options because there's not a lot of parking space. But these small details aren't enough for me to give Austria Haus anything other than a double thumbs-up!

Room Tip: There's two types of rooms: those facing the mountain and those that don't. I guess the one...

Dear GlobetrottingMan,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful detailed review. We take great pride not only in our location but our property and location as well and like you said we try to provide our guests with all the amenities the larger hotels offer either on site or at a location close by. From the entire staff we are sincerely sorry that we did not get you the non down comforter and pillows, which is a common request. Touching on the parking situation the Austria Haus is a valet only property, and like you said it is due to the lack of room that we have here in Vail village, however unlike other properties which charge you extra for parking we do include parking in the resort fees. Again thank you for this great review and the two thumbs up!

The Austria Haus is a very cozy hotel that goes to great lengths to feel like an alpine inn. Most of the rooms have fireplaces and are well appointed. Even the continental breakfast buffet caters more to European tastes than American. It's location is also ideal, just a few blocks from the center of Vail Village. However, for such high prices and inflexible cancellation policies, one would expect a few more amenities, including room service and an onsite gym (guests do have access to the Vail Lodge's gym, several blocks away).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a fireplace.
