“Aging and needs some TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

My family has stayed here a few times over the years. We usually stay in the condo section, so I have not seen a hotel room recently. The quality of the condos can really vary b/c they are privately owned. The one that we stayed in last was newly renovated and beautiful, but my sister stayed in a unit that had not been updated since about 1980 - it was not pretty! So you have to be careful with what you request.

The rest of the building could be beautiful, but it just doesn't appear to be cared for like it needs to be. Outside railings are broken, paint is peeling, plants were dying. The pool used to be really nice, but this last time the water seemed to have too many chemicals, and the pool furniture was old and dirty. There are some simple things that the property could do to really upgrade the area - how about keeping the plants alive, new outdoor furniture and a clean pool!??!!

It's a shame b/c this used to be a good value for Vail, and was a lovely, if not luxurious, little place.

One bright spot is that the employees there were very nice. But that's not enough to bring me back.

This is in Vail Village in a great location. We didn't have to move the car the two days we stayed there. There is parking and you need a pass to get in that needs to be returned to the front desk (which is a little annoying), but since we didn't move the car, it turned out to be fine. The room was nice. No a/c, but the room stayed cool. Full length mirror, magnifying mirror in the bathroom, two sinks, good shower pressure, deep tub, pretty roomy. I read the other reviews and I was helped by a man and an older woman who were both very nice and helpful (maybe I didn't encounter the person others complained about).

A group of us rented a 4 bedroom condo from the Christiana for a wedding we were attending just outside of Vail. When we first arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the place. The condo had a large bedroom and bathroom downstairs, and three more bedrooms upstairs. Every bedroom had an attached bathroom, and there was an additional hallway bath that made a total of five full bathrooms. The master bedroom/bathroom was HUGE and included a very large sitting room.

I believe our condo was a privately owned unit that was managed by the Christiana. The decor was not what most of us would have chosen, but it wasn't bad by any means. Every bedroom had a television, and the master bedroom and the living room had large flat screen televisions. We didn't use them much because our place became the gathering point for everyone in town for the wedding party. Our condo was right on the edge of where the shops were, so we were conveniently located to everything in Vail.

The hotel offers a continental breakfast every morning, but it is pretty sparce. If all you need is a piece of fruit and a cup of coffee, the breakfast is fine.

Vail itself is unbelievably beautiful. The whole town has a Bavarian and Swiss look to it....there is a very obvious European influence throughout the towns shops, restraurants, and resorts. I highly recommend Vail to anyone who loves the mountains and the outdoors, and I would stay at the Christiana again in a minute.

We've stayed here several times when we've gone to Vail for performances at the Ford Amphitheater, and it's a good location for that purpose (right next to the Tivoli Lodge, which I see is rated #1 but is more expensive), as we can walk easily to the village for a quick dinner, then back toward the hotel to have a pleasant walk on the Gore Creek Trail to the show. We get the cheapest room, with a village view, but it's only a little noisy until 11:00 or so, then very quiet the rest of the night. The rooms are fine, a little musty smelling sometimes, and as another reviewer noted, there's no a/c, so when you first get there on a warm summer's day, it's HOT in there. But the open windows do cool it down, although if you close even one, it gets warm again. Breakfast is very basic, cold cereals, bagels, English muffins, juice, coffee, and unripe bananas, but in the summer, it's free, as is parking in their convenient lot directly across the street. Their info said that in the winter, breakfasts are $7.50/person, which seems incredibly overpriced, but maybe they give you more in the winter, or maybe it's just being Vail. The pool area is very pleasant, with a nice view, the wifi worked fine everywhere on the property we used it, and the staff was helpful, although we didn't ask for much. It's not a luxury property, so don't expect pampering in the accommodations or services, but considering it's in a world-class resort town, we feel we get decent value for our money.

Had my sister visitng from Ireland and wanted to show her the high country. This hotel was great- found a summertime deal and took advantage of it. Convenient to everything in Vail Village without being in the 'thick of it'. Vail in the summer can get packed especially with the farmer's market so this location was perfect (on the edge of the busiest sections). Heated pool was great to enjoy after a long bike ride. Continental breakfast was ok - the fresh fruit and cereal was a good base to start the day. Room was nice and spacious- a little dated but in the summer in Vail- no need to sit in your room!

nice, older, well-kept lodge right in the Village but a bit away from the heavy traffic areas. My suite overlooked the stream and the mountain--beautiful. Good cold breakfast, ample and lots of choices incl. healthy. will stay there again as the prices were very fair.

We rented the condo (room #120). The size was good with a full updated kitchen. The livingroom had way too much furniture in it. You could barely walk. The bedrooms were spacious but need serious updating! Good thing is that you could walk out directly to the pool. My wife had a problem with the shower. It was either very hot or very cold. I had about the same problem with it because the fixtures are so old it was hard to control the water temperature. **There is NO air conditioning at this hotel**. If you stay here during the summer, you will be hot in your room. It gets cool at night but during the day is a different story. Keep your windows open all day to avoid major heat problems. They do supply each room with a box fan made in 1985 though. If you sleep with your windows open on the bottom floor, the sprinklers will wake you up at 1:30 AM and again at 5 AM.
The property itself also needs updating. It's quaint and themed well but time to close and remodel. Sara's lounge, the "restaurant" only serves a small continental breakfast. For the money you pay for the rooms, they could give you more than bagels and yogurt. It's also only there for looks and hosting special events. If you want something catered, only the local "Mexican" restaurant delivers/caters. It's not great, but it's food... Lastly, you only get 1 parking spot per room. If you don't park there, you have to park in the "local" parking tower. It's quite a walk away and only free during the summer. I guess Vail has to make it's money somewhere. Oh, and be careful using things like the garbage disposal. My aunt used hers the last night and it fell off of the sink completely! We had to pick up food and water off the floor and under the sink.
OK, long story short - choose wisely when going to Vail. Brochures can make anything look nice. Value for the money is a different story!

Positive note - it rains every afternoon in Vail during the summer. The front desk clerk gave us an umbrella to use since ours was in the car in the parking garage, 1 mile away. The outside of the hotel is landscaped well. It's very pretty during the summer.

Room Tip: Comparison shop and read lots of reviews
