We booked our stay through Hotwire---obtaining a fabulous off-season rate for the first week of November.

Vail is a little dead around this time but, both Breckenridge and Keystone are open with plenty of things to do nearby. So far our experience has been fabulous. They upgraded our room, the room service (dinner) was excellent and the weather has been mildly chilly with a nice sprinkling of snow.

The hotel staff is warm and friendly. Excellent attention to detail...

  • Liked — Rooms are well appointed and cozy.
  • Disliked — Getting used to high altitude...We are using a humidifier.

A Relaxing Getaway

I always love to head to Vail in the fall. This year I lucked out as I had a wedding to go to. I ended up staying at Vail Cascade as I've stayed there in the past and always have a great experience. In the fall, you can get great deals at their spa, Aria. I completely melted away from the world while I was there. They've done a nice job in upgrading the locker rooms and the sanctuary is a relaxation haven!

Once I finally woke from my trance, I checked into my guest room. The rooms are fabulous! I faced Gore Creek and with the trees changing, it was an awesome view! The rooms are beautifully decorated with warm tones with very comfortable pillow top beds and large TV's. I didn't want to leave but eventually headed to the wedding, the main reason for going! The hotel has shuttle service around Vail so I was able to get to Vail Village with no problem where the wedding was taking place.

The hotel has added a Starbuck's grab and go which is nice if you want to get a quick breakfast sandwich and coffee and head out for your day. If you have time, Chap's, always has great dining! They are undergoing other areas of renovation, although, I didn't feel like it impeded my stay. In speaking with the front desk, they are nearly done so I can't wait to go back up and see all the changes along with going skiing as you can jump on a lift right from the resort.

Whenever I stay in Vail, I always rebook at the Vail Cascade, a gourgous resort in Vail Valley. My favorite home away from home but I don't have to cook or clean!

Sadly, A Bit Worn

Sadly, this fine property is grown long in the tooth and is slowly undergoing a make over and not soon enough. Having been a guest at other highly rated lodgings in the area (eg, Park Hyatt, Beaver Creek), Vail Cascade suffers by comparison. Years ago when it was part of the Westin chain it had one of the finest spa & gyms in the entire Vail Valley, a 3-floor affair with indoor track, etc. Now this facility is worn and bordering on disrepair. I commend the trainers and staff as they continue to be professional and caring. Stayed here in August and then again September for more than a week and found our hotel room to be OK from a standard point of view, but a bit Marriott-business in decor and layout. -- not upscale at all. Think smallish rooms with low ceilings and standard furnishings. Showering in our end-of-hall room on the 3rd floor was truly a hot 'n cold experience, particularly at the peak 7-8am bathing period. Make overs cannot replace old plumbing, so beware. On both stays, our king bed was comfortable with linens of ordinary thread count and room kept clean. Bell staff and valet parking staff were outstanding. If you have a good car, express your "appreciation" to have it parked in front, as the parking garage was designed in the 70's with narrow spacing. Most of the young staff was eager and tried hard to be customer oriented, but poorly trained in my opinion. Dining overall was just so-so.. If you are looking for Ferrette napkins and fine dining at this 4-Diamond rated hotel, you will be disappointed. Don't dispair as here are many excellent eateries in the Vail Valley, unfortunately, the hotel concierge does not have a clue about fine dining. For example, I asked for the number of Spago at the Ritz Carlton in nearby Beaver Creek they did not have it. Bottomline this is just an OK place. So, if you can get a bargain price as one of the reviewers that preceeded me have, go for it! Otherwise, if you are spending your own money and want a place that truly lives up to its hype, look higher on the list of recommended lodgings on Trip Advisor. Lastly, if TA members or hotel management wish to contact me I am willing to provide additional feedback.

Great deal for a summer stay in Vail

We stayed in the off-season and enjoyed the serene setting of the hotel -- our room had a balcony overlooking the stream, which we left open every night to enjoy the sound of the running water. The spa services/staff were great. The rooms were nicely appointed and very clean. Because it was the off season, we got a good discount rate on the room. I can only imagine how beautiful this hotel is in the winter -- right next to the slopes.

The food at the hotel was good, but not spectacular -- we headed into town to take advantage of the summertime deals (many prix fixe menus, 2 for 1 specials, etc. in nice restaurants).

Overall, the Vail Cascade is a beautiful property, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I had looked forward to this hotel, hoping it would be extremely luxurious. But it was anything but. It was OK, and I'd stay there again, but there were several little things that were problemmatic. First, our room was on the ground floor, near the creek. But they were doing landscaping renovations and we had a view of orange construction fencing. There was a coffee maker and coffee, but no packages of sugar, creamer, and stirrers. There was HALF of a corkscrew.

The TV didn't turn on. By the time someone came to look at it (quickly) I realized it wasn't plugged in. OK. But the wall plug had no switchplate cover!

All the lamps had been replaced by low energy fluorescent. Again, OK, but they did not support 3-way switches. So the room was on the dark side.

The directory of services was huge, but the only menus were for room service. I could not anywhere find a list of hours for the restaurant, the bar, or the cafe/take out shop.

After the room was made up, I realized that they had NOT replaced the partially used bottle of shampoo, and there were no wash cloths.

On the windows, the sheers were on the outside and the blackout curtains on the inside. This is backwards.

Staff members were nice and we had a good late supper in the restaurant. The two nights weren't awful, but I expected more, even having booked through Hotwire at greatly reduced rates.

The free shuttle bus to Lionshead and Vail Village was very nice.

  • Liked — Beautiful building, restaurant, health club, and public spaces
  • Disliked — Many small problems in the room.
