“A strange mix of average and poor. . .”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We were attending a wedding on Vail Mountain and at the Four seasons and don't have a Vail budget for a real room, so we booked at the Roost. Good things . . . price, location, walking distance from several reasonable one of the employees. Bad things . . . no screen on window, no plugs for tub OR sink (ridiculous), and a very small drab room. My partner had to crawl up from the foot of the bed because the only way the bed fit was to be pushed up against the wall.

Shabby, and apparently the corporate owners just don't care to even plug up the tub and sink. Their attitude seems to be, "Well, it's the cheapest place in the area so suck it up!" And I guess we did, but not in the future.

Room Tip: Read the reviews first!! Bring your own stoppers!!

I also wanted a tub bath and went to the grocery store a short walk away and bought a stopper. Problem solved.
The town of Vail free bus made getting to the mountain a breeze.
I stayed for a month and did most of my own cooking with the refrigerator and microwave I had requested when I reserved 6 months before my stay. The Roost has changed little since my family stay in 1983. I brought a small sound canceling machine to mask highway noise. Guests were quiet and considerate the month I was there. The buildings were freshly painted inside and out.
Linens are well used but clean...pillows hard. Mattress comfortable. Shampoo, lotions and soap as well as deodorant,& other samples were provided.
The heat in my room didn't work, so the hall was blazing hot, to keep the rooms warm.
Breakfast started at 7:30.
For those who complain about office hours, they are posted on the site.
staff were pleasant, but not energetic.
I didn't use the available hot tub and sauna.
I knew what to expect and hope to stay there next year as it is within my budget.
When The Roost is eventually redone, I won't be able to afford it.

No surprise this place is an iconic dump and it's price is good in a pinch.... But my room had only a space heater (what?)and when I called the front desk asking for a stopper for the tub the poor chap said, oh we've been asked before and we don't have one. C'est la vie at the Roost Lodge..it was snowing and needed to get off I-70. $150

This place is very outdated - think 1970s carpet & comforters - literally! You hear I-70 throughout the night. The pluses: helpful staff, close to bus line, & free parking. If you really want to be in Vail but can't afford it like us, this is it... I really would have preferred to stay where we were our first two nights in Frisco and just drive the 25 minutes in the morning.

I rather drive an hour and stay in dillon or silverthorne. And or avon.. smelly rooms and a bit noisy. Not bad if you dont care about ambiance and cheap fleabag motel type place. Checked in hauled luggaue upstairs get to room and its filthy. Bottles and garbage. Front desk should of known it wasnt clean. Bunch of kids man the front desk and seem clueless. Bus is not that easy of a walk to green line. Good value if you get it under $100 and are desperate to stay in vail area. You get whay you get. If you know its a dump, then you are not shocked when you arrive to the stale smell in your room. Bring febreeze and lysol. Better deals on hotwire. For 10 more i stayed at the sheraton vista in avon.

If you need a warm bed in a great location in Vail but don't have much money to spend this is a great spot (truly the only place it stay in Vail if you're on a tight budget). It is located right on a free bus line that will take you to all the nearby restaurants, bars and, of course, the ski areas. Yes, some people will argue you can stay outside of Vail for the same amount of money in a nicer place but remember, parking in Vail in-season is expensive. If you're not on a bus route it's a pain to get into Vail or Lionshead. I think the 70's decor actually adds to the experience, makes you feel like you're in an old ski movie or something. The shower was hot and the continental breakfast was adequate considering it was also free.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from I-70
