“An absolutely amazing experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Our stay at Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch far exceeded our expectations thanks to the generosity of hosts Ming and Garry Adams who spent much time with us with insightful suggestions of where to go and what to do in the area. They are exceedingly hospitable, supplying us with fresh eggs from the hens just outside our cabin, and sun-ripe tomatoes and apples from the property. We stayed in Pioneer Cabin which is beautifully and comfortably furnished with every possible amenity. The ranch is a lovely property, a quiet haven with wonderful old trees, a stream running through, longhorn cattle and churro sheep. It's tempting to just hang out there, but the location of the ranch is also ideally situated to explore Hovenweep and Canyon of the Ancients National Monuments, Mesa Verde, and Monument Valley. All in all, a truly memorable experience in every way.

“Lovely Ranch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We stayed in the Pioneer Cabin. The building was built in the 1800s and remodeled. Stainless steel appliances, TV, DVD, 2 stories. Beautiful fields. We only had 1 issue (with the roosters crowing) but once we complained, the problem was solved and we had 5 wonderful nights. Garry and Ming were very gracious hosts. They gave us suggestions for where to visit, and we got to see some ruins we'd never seen before. We loved having a kitchen and 2 bathrooms! We even needed to stay another night and they were able to accomodate us, which was a huge relief. We'd definitely stay there again.

“A little piece of Heaven.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

We had such a good stay- we turned around and bought a week between Christmas and New Years. The second you get on the ranch, you can just feel how unique and cool your stay is going to be. We came because we wanted a base to travel to Mesa Verde, Hoevenweep and Chaco Canyon. We had almost more fun on the farm than four wheeling it in the desert. The hosts are really cool folks. In the morning they gave us eggs and fruit. We sat on our porch and watched 30 head of sheep walk by untended and put themselves into their stable. There are chickens, cows, horse, rabbits, cats, dogs- and everyone is free to wander around. Can't go wrong here - well unless you stay only 2 nights- then you'll wish you'd planned several more nights.

“Beautiful, peaceful ranch with lots of animals between Monument Valley and Mesa Verde”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Very beautiful ranch on the road between Monument valley (2H30m) and Mesa Verde (90 minutes). We stayed 6 days in the renovated barn, which was very beautifully renovated with great A/C (but no dishwasher). It's a fantastic place for kids because of all the animals (cows, horses, dogs, sheep, chicken). Thank you to Ming and Gary for your great welcome (and for the delicious organic vegetables) and for showing us the beautiful ruins and petroglyphs in the nearby Canyon of the Ancients, and especially to Terry and Rebecca and their adorable kids for being such great friends to our daughters. We also recommend the horse ride at the nearby ranch. Beware that the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away in Cortez (which has two great swimming pools with slides). We planned to stay for 3 days but extended to 5 because the kids had such a great time. Overall, a great place, a little out of the way, but well worth it after the crowds of Grand Canyon and Mesa Verde.

“Love to get away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Want a PERFECT place to go, unwind and enjoy just being alive. We planned to hit all of the National sites in the area but once at the ranch decided to just enjoy this very special place instead. Ming and Garry are awesome and made our time at their ranch very special. We stayed in the Elden Stone House but checked out all of their cabins and would be thrilled to stay in any of them....all very clean and decorated perfectly. We can't wait to return and we will plan to stay longer than the two night we had for this trip.

“A magical place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

What an absolutely marvelous place to see and spend time at. The hosts Ming and Garry Adams were so attentive to our needs. The cabins are all different and very well equipped. The setting is on a ranch in the Elmo Canyon area where you can do day trips to see the petroglyphs and indian ruins ranging from 1000-4000 years. We will definately be back to stay there and explore more of the mystical area and it's history.

“Ranch of my dreams . . .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012 for a stay in February 2012

The graceful canyon setting was alive with the happy sounds of bleating lambs, clucking hens, and the babbling McElmo River. Even in the "off season" the ranch was full of life - all appreciative of the warm sun in the protected canyon. The hiking was delightful and our hosts, Garry and Ming, generously shared some of their favorite petroglyphs along the canyon walls. The ranch has several guest houses - all with very well appointed sleeping, bathing, relaxing, cooking, and eating spaces. There were lovely outdoor sitting areas, too. If you want to get your hands dirty, I know you would be welcome to do so, but it's by no means a requirement. I can't wait to go back and help Ming in the gardens so I can cook up some delicious organic meals. You can bring your own foods and cook what you want. It's also an easy drive to Cortez, where there are several good restaurants and an airport (in case you have to get away quickly, as I unfortunately did). I really appreciated the eco-friendly ways in which Garry and Ming care for their animals and property. There was a Zen quality to the experience - very peaceful and beautiful. Looking forward to a return visit!
