I was disappointed in The Peaks when we were in Telluride 2 years ago, it seems nothing has improved there.
We are now heading to Telluride again in September & am definitely NOT returning to the Peaks.
Our experience wasn't as unpleasant as those mentioned here, but I certainly do see where they are coming from. Service was "sporadic" & house keeping definitely could have used some help.

My disappointment stemmed more from expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel which it's billed as but getting a 3 star instead, had we paid 3-star prices I wouldn't have minded!!

I stayed at the Peaks last July and from the outset it was not the best experience. I reserved a room with a balcony only to find two
surprises at check in. #1 is that they did not have a room with a balcony for us. I complained and after moving into a room less the balcony, they finally moved us into a room with.. #2. I was taken a bit by surprise that the parking fee was an outragous
$29.00 per day. It was never specified in the reservation or on the web page about that charge. A good fitting term would be
" over rated and over priced!'

I stayed at the Peaks with some friends and problems started with reservation. We reserved two lower-priced rooms and then when I got the confirmation, one of the rooms was much more expensive (our rooms were originally $450 or something). I called and they said they had set it straight. But when we checked in, huge problems because they couldn't find that they had already taken a security deposit on my credit card. Finally resolved it, but a hassle.

Went into bar for a quick lunch and one person on sight was really overworked. All tables needed to be bussed. Finally a guy came to clear the table next to us and just pushed the french fries onto the floor. No one cleaned them up but the workers would just step over them throughout our meal. We ended up calling all the issues we faced the 'french fry effect.'

Other issues including cleaning of the rooms were sporadic and sometimes they'd forget to leave shampoo, soap, etc. even though we were clearly out of it. I had to call housekeeping every day for an item that wasn't left (towels, soap, shampoo). I left an empty shampoo bottle on the floor of the shower to see what would happen and it stayed there all week.

The entire hotel just seemed pretty dirty. There were dishes that someone had left on a table by the elevators on our floor and instead of being cleaned up, the pile grew over the week to finish with about four plates and five glasses.

The service was mediocre at best and that included the concierge. One concierge was helpful - ask for Dan - but others would tell us we had a reservation for something and then would have to call us to say, in fact, that they weren't able to accomodate our request.

When we got back, I received an email from the hotel asking me what I thought of my stay. I was honest and said we weren't happy. The GM sent me an email and promised a 'one-night' voucher to come back to the hotel. We live in NYC. What do you think the chances are that we will fly out to Telluride again for one night free at the hotel?????

For the room price, you can definitely do better.

“Really not as bad as many of the reviews”

The Peaks Resort & Golden Door Spa

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Peaks. I didn't expect much due to the many bad reviews and upcoming remodel of the property. Well we were pleasantly surprised. The location is great. We were traveling with our 5 month old baby. We used the Base Camp nursery in the hotel. Jennifer, who seemed to be in charge was great. The ski valet guys were also great. The food really was pretty good and food service not terrible. We didn't receive any spa treatments, but the spa facilites (pool, gym, etc) are very nice as well. Besides room decor needing "updating", and minor housekeeping issues the stay was pretty darn nice.

I was very disapponted with our stay at the Peaks. The hotel presents itself as a luxury property, but they do not carry through with this on a service level. The bright spots here were our room, a generous size, though a bit dated, with a beautiful view of the mountains, and the service at the ski valet was excellent. Also access to the slopes is great. Now the bad. The concierge did not follow through with requests. When I checked in, I had to wait several minutes for the front desk employee to finish her personal call. At check out, there was a billing error and this same employee told to me go down to the pro shop to investigate the charge instead of her doing it for me. It was eventually resolved to be their mistake. It took 3 calls to get my luggage to the room. It took 3 calls to get dog bowls delivered....the peaks advertises itself as being pet firendly, but they did nothing to welcome my pet, yet they charge $150 pet fee. Housekeeping was poor, dirty glasses were never replaced, our terrace was full of cigarette butts. The buffet breakfast was very low quality. Our service in the Great Room was ok, but no one working at the hotel seemed cheerful or even happy to be there. The Peaks is planning to renovate into a condo hotel starting in April, and they currently have a big marketing campaign to sell condos. So everywhere in the hotel is ads to sell you a unit.....in the coffee house, lobby, down by the ski valet, even in our bathroom. I did bring up some of my issures with management, and I was compensated for the service flaws. I hope The Peaks will take time to focus on their service issues while they renovate their facilities.
