“Telluride Lodge #525 - not a nice experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2009

2 adults and 2 kids stayed in Telluride Alpine Lodge #525 for the Bluegrass Festival. The unit smelled very musty and moldy just like we were staying in someone's basement. It is in desparate need of updating and repair. The kitchen is old with ripped flooring. The bathroom is down another flight of stairs with a very bizarre and inconvenient layout. This was not at all worth the festival rate we were paying. We stayed one night and checked in to another unit.

Winter 2012: Telluride Lodge #525 has gotten a few updates, and expelled the musty smell. Still a split-level floor plan, though.

My family of five, enjoyed staying at the Telluride Lodge this June. It provided enough space for the five of us at a valued price that we could afford. With gas prices at an all time high, we were able to park our vehical and walk to every location in the Town of Telluride and take the Gondola to Mountain Village. Which by the way is a big hit with kids :)

The property is not your 5 star resort, but it met our needs with our family with kids. Location is great. We are looking forward to booking a winter vacation to ski this upcoming winter since Telluride Lodge is accross the street from a chair lift.

This was a great vacation and thanks to the savings in accomodations and out to eat meals, we were able to do more while we were there. It's an absolutly beautiful place and we spent more time outside enjoying the town and activities, then we did in the condo, but while we were there it was great!

  • Liked — It was a value for our family of five and is a great location and Telluride is beautiful
  • Disliked — No BBQ on Decks of units- had to use community BBQ Grill- not a big deal- just a little difficult.

My husband and I stayed at Telluride Lodge this spring while in Telluride and had a great experience. The front desk was super helpful when our bags got stuck in Denver and were great at recommending restaurants around town. The room was affordable, clean and close to the mountain. I would definitely stay there again!

My wife and I were able to pull away from our busy Denver lives for a qucik five day trip down to Telluride this Spring.

In the many years I have skied in Telluride I had never seen a season like this.

Our arrival went without a hitch, and the unit was fine.

This is in no way a 5 star hotel, but neither was the price.

The location was excellent! Who wants to stay in the mt. Village anyway. The price was right and the hot tub soothed our weeary bones.

Pound for pound I find Telluride Lodge to be a perfectly good property in which to stay. It might be easy to feel inferior to other properties because Telluride is full of over built high-end luxury condo's and hotels, but as far as my wife and I are concerned Telluride Lodge offers us exactly what we want.

Location, affordability, and overall cleanliness

We had a great weekend in Telluride and the lodging was perfect!! The location and price couldnt of been any better. My husband and I along with the kids had a lovely stay and a very nice condo I might add. Being right across the street from the ski lift was a + with our family. The views of the mountain were great. We heard minimal noise which was nice considering we have small children. My family and I plan on staying here again next ski season and would reccomend it to others.

I, along with 27 other travelers from a ski club in Florida, stayed at the Telluride Lodge 3/1 - 3/8. We worked with a ski tour operator who arranged for our accomodations. We trusted in that tour operator to ensure that the lodging was of a standard that would meet reasonable expectations. Unfortunately, they did not. My wife and I, along with another couple, were originally assigned unit # 538, which was absolutely horrible....broken furniture, ceiling falling in, dorm-sized refrigerator, and simply dirty and tired. After requesting with the condo office that they move us, they showed us 2 other units that were just as bad and then ultimately moved us to a 3 BR unit (#529), which at first seemed a little better (newer furniture, full-sized refrigerator, etc...) and since we had been traveling all day, we accepted the unit. Much to our disappointment, after we had been in there a few hours we really began to notice just how filthy the unit was. Mold and mildew in the bathrooms, dirty carpet, windows that hadn't seen Windex for months, broken glass-top table on patio, dust clinging to air-vents, etc... The shower in the lower bathroom would not drain properly, leaving standing water in the tub while one showered. We complained to the office on Monday and didn't see it fixed until WEDNESDAY. The manager did NOTHING to compensate us for what was a very disappointing stay and actually denied there were any problems with the unit, when our trip leader tried to discuss with him. The manager in charge of group sales NEVER even came to view the unit and hear our complaints. Meanwhile, a group of 6 folks from our club, who only complained about the bathroom configuration, was moved to a private house that was absolutely impeccable. We were treated unfairly and unjustly and management was rude, curt, and downright in denial of any issues. Many of the units in this property should NOT be in the rental pool and the management company should force owners to upgrade their units. I would not recommend this property to anyone including my worst enemy, as it is very old, tired, and lacks basic standards of cleanliness and maintenance.

Not a real hotel but rather a condo complex, Telluride Lodge is right in town, and within easy walking distance of the main street, the ski lift, the gondola, etc. It consists of four rows of condos set in a pleasant green space with trees, picnic tables, and gas barbecue grills. It seemed that many of the units were occupied by owners and long-term renters, and so the property was pleasantly quiet. There's a hot tub, ample parking, and a ski locker for each unit. I believe this was actually the very first condo complex in Telluride, and the architecture is mid-80s funky, with odd peaks and jogs and various-sized windows.

So far so good! The bad part is that because it's not a real hotel, the office hours are limited. If you call the office after 5 your call is routed to another nearby property where the staff seem to know next to nothing about Telluride Lodge. When I booked our room online, my confirmation page gave me an 800 number to call to arrange to get our key. The operator (presumably at the "other" property) assured me that the Lodge office would be open till 8 on the day of our arrival. We pulled up at about 5:15 to find the office locked, with a sign on the door instructing us to use the combination we'd been given to open the key box and get our key. We of course had no combination, since we'd been told the office would be open. The sign added that we could also use the phone to call for assistance, but the phone was dead. The sign included the phone number, but not the area code--thus making it impossible for us to use our cell phone. Just as we were about to make an irate call to hotels.com, another couple arrived, and they (O happy day!) had the combination for the key box.

We also had some bad experiences with the apartment itself. The floor plan was spacious, with a full kitchen, living area with fireplace, dining nook, bedroom, and deck. One of the windows was missing a crank handle and thus couldn't be opened, the fan in the bathroom was loose in its housing and rattled the very walls, there was no towel rack for the bath towels (important to be able to hang these up, because you get new towels only every three days), and the handle for the flue in the fireplace slid out very nicely, but didn't actually open the flue. We discovered this last problem when our cozy little fire filled the entire apartment with wood smoke.

This last disaster fortunately occurred before 5 pm, and so we were able to summon the maintenance guys. Here we return to the good--they were prompt, knowledgeable, and incredibly nice, as was every other staff member we encountered. They were not, however, able to fix the fireplace, and they told us that the non-opening window couldn't be fixed because it's so old that the missing part is no longer available. (They also gave us some spicy gossip about the condo's owner, but all that will remain a secret between us and them . . . )

As for the ugly, the decor in our unit was pretty awful. The maintenance guys said that the burlap wallpaper and teal blue plush carpet were probably part of the original 1980s furnishings.

All in all, however, the Telluride Lodge provided us with cheap, comfortable lodging (cheap for Telluride, that is). Because every unit is different and individually owned, you can't really know what you'll be getting in the way of decor, appliances, mechanical malfunctions, etc. We probably would try to get a different unit if we were to go back there again.
