“Never Ending”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Basic lodging, some fancier lodging is available in Telluride, but reasonable price. You may get really lucky and have a condo that has a very attentive owner, you may get one that looks like the early 90's. However, the location is pretty good for a awl and easy access back to town. This would probably be a 5 star in the winter. Right on the mountain.

Room Tip: If you want main street action stay in town.

Telluride lodge feels like a cross between a condo and a hotel. A lot depends on the owners of the unit, but also on where it's situated. #420 is on the lower of two levels, with views of... the other condos. No real reason to open the shades. Maybe typical of 'premium' condo rentals, the surface fixtures are nice enough but the underlying construction is cheap -- if someone's staying in the unit above you, you'll easily keep track of their comings and goings. And getting up from a chair. And sitting back down. And turning on the tv... The carpets and furniture are clean but pretty worn.

The unit has 3 bedrooms, 2 of which are (or feel like they're) subterranean -- only the master bedroom is above sea-level. The living space is comfortable for 3-4 people, but would've been crowded for 6. The kitchen is well stocked with reasonable equipment, and cooking was not a problem. (Just don't look for a place to store any food other than on the countertops.)

Telluride Lodge is across the street from the base of Coonskin lift, which turns out to be not so convenient for getting up onto the mountain unless you're going to ski Coonskin lift all day. To get to The Plunge or any of the back bowls (or the Mountain Village blue runs), you'll want to take Oak Street lift or the gondola -- both about a 10 minute walk from TL. Coming home at the end of the day, even if you don't want to ski the snow-hungry black scree runs (Milk Run...), it's possible to take Telluride Trail all the way down to the base of Coonskin, though, so the walk home can be short (across one street). As a bonus, Telluride's grocery store is close, so the 10-minute walk into town for shopping or restaurants/bars is at least partially offset by a 2-minute (indoor) stroll to the grocery.

The rental agency for #420 (Elevation Rentals) has friendly people. But we made daily phone calls to them because of lack of info in the condo. No parking pass that was promised, wifi setup and passwords not as instructions suggested, no info on where to get the bus into town, no info on where to take the garbage, no spare garbage bags... Problems were fixed. But why were there problems to begin with?

We made a day trip from Ouray over to Telluride, toured the town and rested for a few moments in the lodge. It is made for the winter scenes. Great marble floors and walls, and larger than life fireplaces made it both austere and warm.

We were expecting a four-star hotel. This place is just a nice, bare-bones lodge. Parking was a problem. The location is not so good for summer activities, since it is not in the main part of town (may be good for ski-in, ski-out, though). Overall, we liked Telluride but would not stay at this hotel again.

I believe you submitted a review for the wrong property. The Telluride Lodge is not a hotel, and does not have hotel services. It is a condominium complex, offering vacation rentals.

I have stayed in a few of these and wanted folks to know that every condo is independently owned. This is not a hotel. Some people live here full time, some part-time, some rent, etc. Some condos are very, very nice as they have been completely stripped and remodeled and are worth about $1,000,000. Many are in near original condition (1974) and are in very poor repair. You must ask about the condition of the condo you are renting.
The upside of Telluride Lodge is that we have 3 acres of common space (think lawns), attached to grocery store, walk to ski lift, in town, but away from the noise of main street, good permitted parking, emergency maintenance on-site. We also have a brand new common area Hot tubs (2) and steam shower that cost $200,000 to build. The downside is that Telluride Lodge is an older complex, the buildings look like they are from the 70's and the layouts are split-level style. Overall the common areas are kept in good condition, but they are not fancy. Inside of each condo you may find a treasure or a rundown "get me outta here" place. Ask, before you go.

I’ve stayed din different units in at this facility over several years. It is a bit hit and miss as far as quality of the room. I have not been in any that were terrible and a few that have been quite nice. The town is small enough to walk where you need to go for dinner. Clark’s Grocery is attached to one section of the units.

We planned a last minute weekend trip to Telluride. Due to MLK holiday most rooms were booked over that weekend or just super expensive. We found Telluride Lodge and it was a perfect fit for us and our 10 year old daughter The unit was surprisingly large with a muli level floor plan, two bathrooms, one with a jet tub and the other with a newer shower. The unit looked as it was decorated with IKEA type furnishings. The full sized kitchen offered butcher block island and all the dishes you would need to make a sunday dinner including wine glasses and Calphalon pots and pans.. The living room had a DVD player and a flat screen tv. The unit has a mud type room with full washer and dryer. There is a small deck with access to the parking area off the dining area. regardless of what past reviews mention that the property is not downtown Telluride then they must be too lazy to walk a couple of blocks to get an amazing meal and/or drink. There is also a really nice grocery store behind the hotel so you can stock up with everything you will need. Lift 7 is just an easy, short walk from this property. If you do not want to walk a few blocks for dining or to the lift you may not want to stay here , but if you are looking for a good value in expensive Tride in a decent location then check out Telluride Lodge #314. There is also a free bus that takes you around Telluride including the Gondola. If you are looking for a fair priced, quick lunch or breakfast got to Baked In Telluride for bagels or homemade tacos. For dinner we really enjoyed Rustico. Decent food and good service.
