My fiancé and I stayed at The Fairmont Heritage Place Franz Klammer Lodge for one week in March, and had an amazing time.
Our arrival was a bit bumpy. The shuttle service had us wait for other passengers for an hour, and then realized there was an error on the schedule. This however, meant that our accommodating & friendly driver swung by the market for us. Once at the Lodge, our room wasn't ready although we arrived after scheduled check-in time. We were also a bit disappointed that our request for a 5th floor room wasn't met especially because out of a possible 15 weeks we have there per year, we only used 1. Also, there was construction going on next door, but the noise wasn't too bad.
The rest of the week was perfect. The backdrop of the San Juan Mountains couldn't have been more magnificent. I soaked up every minute of peace and quiet on the mountain. We also love that the Lodge is located in Mountain Village (ski in - ski out), away from the "bustle" of the town of Telluride. (Getting there and back is an easy, beautiful gondola ride away).
We absolutely loved the rooms. Beds are super cozy, the deep bathtubs with jets heavenly, Miller Harris products in the bathroom, and the Viking range/Sub-zero fridge/stocked kitchen along with the gas grill on the porch were perfect when we didn't feel like going out for dinner. DVDs are available downstairs, and along with the fireplace made for cozy evenings. The Fairmont also offers a world-class private spa, 24-hour concierge, valet parking, heated indoor/outdoor pool, and an 18-hole championship link-style golf course. The slopes closed at 4-ish, so off to the hot tub we went. (Try the one on the 5th floor behind the spa. It's rarely used and has incredible views.)
Restaurants to try: 9545 (Mountain Village) and Rustico (Telluride).
We'll, of course, be back again. Telluride is going to be a yearly trip, and that includes the Fairmont. We doubt you'll want to stay anywhere else once you stay here.
