gorgeous setting... top-notch food
We dined with a group of five adults and all of us raved about the atmosphere and food. It was so delicious and the perfect dining experience. For starters, I had the mushroom soup - great. Other members of our party had the oysters or foie gras. Both stated they were outstanding. The organic greens salad was very light and fresh with a vinaigrette. All entrees were large and exceedingly wonderful in flavor. The striped bass entree special was ordered by two in our party and both enjoyed it. I had the Bouillabaisse, which included a lobster tail. The flavor was perfect, with an abundance of succulent seafood.
Our waiter, Andrew, (I think) was right on with the timing and delivery of food and drink. He maintained a balance of attention and distance.
The upscale lodge decor was comfortable, relaxing and warm.
I would recommend this as a true dining, eating experience.
The reviews I read couldn't be further from my experience. Every element of our dinner was above expectations. The hostess and coat check girl were both pleasant and friendly. We were quickly seated in a romantic corner with window view and promptly given drinks. The waiter was very attentive but didn't hover. His timing was excellent.
And the food! Our appetizers, the foie gras and shrimp cocktail were both very, very good. Our meal, kobe filet mignon and sea bass, were both excellent and prepared to our request.
Everything was in place for a nice romantic evening. We will definitely return.
“we were seated, then we were rushed. they brought out our kids food, then told us we could not eat, because they were closing the kitchen. We got to go boxes, and boxed the kids food up. We were charged for food and drinks that we did not even get. When we complained, they all forgot how to speak english. It is a good thing my husband is mexican and speaks spanish fluently??!! They were rude, and the service was terrible! When we got the kids food home, my sons food could not be eaten, due to the bug we found in it! I will be calling the health department Monday. My husband learned, they can too. The owner kept his brain in his thumb as well. he was just nasty and very disrespectful.”
The selling point for Allred's is the view, but since it is only open to the common man in the evenings (private club only for lunch) you won't see too much. Also they sat us far away from the window. That being said the place has great atmosphere and attentive, knowledgeable staff. The food was pretty good: I did not find my pot au feu extraordinary (which it should be for $34), but the cheesy crouton with it was wonderful. All others in my group (of 9) found their food quite good. The main problem with the menu was an overexhuberant use of ingredients (in my opinion). Strange textures and flavors blended together in ways that were not always welcome, and I am usually pretty adventurous with tastes. In my estimation, though, the best thing about the place was...the bathroom. I could live there (strange but true).
