My friends and I went to 221, hearing it was a great place. The food was good, but not spectacular. I had a special appetizer of mussles that was quite good, but in need of salt (or perhaps something acidic, like wine or tomatoes). Main course was pork chop that was good, but difficult to cut with the crummy knives they provided. All other people with meat dishes suffered the same problem. Nobody (we had 9 people who tried different things on the menu) was overwhelmed by the food.
Waiter (tall, balding fellow) was substandard and grumpy considering the atmosphere, reputation, and prices of the restaurant. He abandoned us for huge stretched of time, would go off looking to find something requested (like water or cream) and only return 15 minutes later without the requested item. To top it off, because of our large party, they added the gratuity to the bill. We would not have given him a good tip otherwise.
