“Dog Friendly Boutique Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

With more and more travelers bringing their dogs with them, it's great to find a hotel that not only welcomes dogs, but goes out of their way to show them a good time! Even if you don't have a dog (go rescue one!!) this hotel's attitude towards its guests is one of the reasons we would definitely go back.

The lobby is huge and the warm (even if it's artificial) fire makes you feel as if you had entered a Swiss chalet. It rained the entire time we were in Telluride, so coming back from dinner or shopping made us feel warm in our hearts. There is a sign that identifies the newly arriving canines, and a water bowl. There is a $100 charge for your dog(s) to stay, no matter how many days or how many dogs your bring along. Yes, $100 for the entire visit.

The desk staff double as concierge staff, so when we got up too late to enjoy the buffet breakfast provided in the tiny lounge, they were able to tell us about a place open for breakfast until 3 pm. We parked on the street just across from the hotel (saving the $20 a day parking charge) but we were there at a time when the town was not crowded. They have a shuttle service that takes you anywhere in town you want to go, especially nice after a bottle of wine at dinner or in bad weather.

The rooms themselves were nicely appointed--Aveda toiletries, wine glasses and coffee cups (although there was 24 hour tea, coffee, water, and ice tea available in the lobby). They give you a choice of pillows if you want different or extra ones, and there was a small balcony with Trex rocking chairs.

If we had a minor complaint, it would be that the two hot tubs were in a very public area near the entrance to the hotel (just outside the small fitness center). We didn't feel like we had any privacy there, and one of the two hot tubs was an older model. It would be worth the expense to replace with a newer one, and to put up a lattice screen of some kind.

But their kindnesses toward animals, their friendliness toward guests, and the setting within walking distance to shopping makes this a wonderful place to call home away from your home.

I've stayed at the Hotel Telluride 3 times, whenever I'm in town for a workshop at the art school, most recently last month. We enjoy staying in the town of Telluride itself instead of going up to the Mountain Village resorts. We enjoy the restaurants in town, without having to travel down via gondola or car. This time my husband came along for the trip and it was perfect! My first stay there, I was asked if I minded a room that sits above the parking garage entry. There was some concern that it might be noisy, but it was fine. The room was beautiful, looking toward the mountain and I could see the gondola going up the mountain. So every year since I've requested a room in the same general area of the hotel. I think the second year I stayed one floor up and this year we were on the top/third floor to take advantage of the higher ceilings for a more spacious feeling. But we're always given a corner room which is very nice and has more windows and light (rooms over the parking garage are corner rooms, but honestly I've never heard any noise from the garage). The hotel has the look of a luxurious lodge and the lobby is quite beautiful. The rooms are very nicely appointed, very clean and with wonderful bedding. The rooms may be somewhat smaller than in the resorts in Mountain Village, but they are well laid out and we found it to be plenty of room for us. We did notice however that the bed this year, in the third floor room, was not quite as comfortable for us, just a tad too firm, maybe it's older than the bedsI've had there previously. Those who like a softer bed might not like that room. Also, we noticed the maintenance in the halls, elevator, etc. seemed to have slipped a bit from previous years but that could have been because it was near the end of the busy summer season. Things just didn't look quite as polished and spiffy, but I'm sure it will be back to perfection next season. The only downside with this hotel really is parking, there is a $20 charge per day to park in the garage and the garage parking is tight and sometimes hard to fit larger vehicles into. But there is on-street, free parking in the nearby neighborhood, with no time limit after 6pm, for those who prefer to save the parking fee. Some things we especially enjoyed are: the free hotel shuttle to take you anywhere in town and also pick you up if not after a certain time (11 pm?), the on site bistro The Nook, a nice but small area adjacent to the lobby for breakfast, lunch, a drink or a light dinner. The menu is limited (as is the space), but if you're tired and want to stay in, it's perfect. Also, the chocolate chip cookies in the lobby every late afternoon, and the wonderfully accommodating and pleasant staff. We'll definitely choose this hotel our next trip here!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the mountain side (front) of the hotel, with a balcony. It's on a side street...

This is one of the finest hotels that we have stayed in for a long time. We took a short fall trip and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of service and beautiful accommodations found here. The staff was superb and the room was very clean and comfortable. The beds were fantastic and we were offered our choice of pillows from an extensive list. Would definitely stay here again.

The room was beautifully appointed and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The only surprise was a shared balcony. For better or worse, we do enjoy our privacy. Only a 4' rail between our small balcony and that of the room next door. That said, the hotel staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. We got some great recommendations for places in town. What a beautiful town!

Room Tip: If you want a room with a balcony that you're not sharing, make sure to ask for a private balcon...

We live in Colorado but had never been to Telluride before. Since injuries have shortened our skiing days, we thought a nice Fall trip would be fun and exciting. This little town reminds us so much of Switzerland. The Hotel was more than accommodating to our dog. The staff is superb!
The room was very spacious and decor a mountain feel.
We will definitely return.

I was able to park for 5 days and walk easily to all the film festival screenings and events, plus right downtown for restaurants. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Breakfast buffet for $10 was a steal for the quality of fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, sausage, hot cakes, juice and coffe. It opend early enough for the 8:30 movie showings. Been to the Telluride FF for last 7 years, and usually stayed in Mountain Village in condo or Fairmont or Madelline Hotel. This was much better!

Room Tip: Might want to stay on top (third) floor, but all the rooms are quaint and spacious

I have stayed at the Hotel Telluride 4 or 5 times. It never disappoints. Outstanding in town location. Wonderful property. Excellent rooms and accommodations. And a wonderful, friendly, and helpful staff. I come every year to do some photography in the area and have always had wonderful stays at the Hotel Telluride. Highly recommended.
