The day before we arrived, I happened to call to ask whether we could extend our stay a day or two. The woman at the front desk admitted it was a good thing I called because she had forgotten to assign us a room and we would have arrived with no room prepared for us (2 adults and 3 young children!). However, she said she would assign us a room and that yes, we could extend our stay. On that note, I called and changed our return airline reservation. Once we arrived, after having checked into our room, I got a phone call saying that the room was not available for the extra 2 days. When I went to the front desk to get the issue straightened out, I was met by a very abrasive reservations manager who threw in you reserved through bookit.com--we don't even have a negotiated rate for you. I'm not really sure how that played into the situation that I was told we could extend our stay, but arrived to be told the contrary.
As for cleanliness, the refrigerator reeked of spoiled milk and despite the fact that I told this to the front desk several times, no one ever came to try to clean it or fix the situation. Surfaces were caked with dust (not just days' worth). Housekeeping was lame at best.
The concierge, while sweet, was clueless. Every one of the dinner reservations we asked for was made for the wrong day. She advised us to take the children to thrill hill to go tubing on a Tuesday, and that activity is only offered Wed - Sun.
The hot tub they mention is at the main lodge, away from the accommodations, and is usually filled with active (read: jumping, splashing) unsupervised children. I believe the parents were probably at the bar inside the lodge, from where the children could be seen--but this was a tremendous nuisance, nonetheless--not to mention a safety issue for the children. The only friendly staff at the hotel were the brazilian guys who served as bell boys and shuttle drivers. The rest of the staff were indeed unfriendly and without any sense of customer service. The only person on the staff who really took an interest in helping was the assistant manager, Karen. She is head and shoulders above the rest of the staff and would be better served to work elsewhere (it's hard to soar with the eagles when you work with a bunch of turkeys).
There is no food service on the property. The closest place where one can be served a meal is down in the village. To get there (or anywhere, really), you have to call the front desk to send a shuttle to take you to the gondola which will then take you to the village or the town. The nearby market is fairly well stocks, but in general it is fairly overpriced, as one would expect in a resort area.
My personal recommendation would be to stay either IN the village, or downtown--either one would be far more convenient.
