“Quiet Relaxing Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

We visited Telluride for an extended stay using SniqueAway and our vacation couldn't have been more perfect! Mountain Lodge is in a perfect location- a short walk up or down to the Gondola- or a quick shuttle ride if it is raining! There is a grocery store by the Station Gondola which is very convenient.

We were in a 1 bedroom suite- it had a full kitchen, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave- all we needed for our stay. The room was comfortable, the outdoor balcony nice to watch the storms or hear the creek. The bed was comfy and the windows opened to let in the breeze. There was ample space as we walked in for our hiking gear, travel coolers, etc. We were across across from the main building so it was just a quick walk for the pool/hot tub which was sooo relaxing after a hike or bike ride. It was quiet at night, and our room overlooked the mountains and creek- very private. We did have a room where the gondola went by- but we found it to be very quiet and never a problem.

We had read about the parking charge/day- but at check-in was suggested that we park in the free lot in Telluride which we did. With the gondola, lodge shuttle, and Galloping Goose, we never needed our car once we arrived. We were able to get to all hiking/biking trails, restaurants and activities we did for the week without our car.

Room Tip: a room overlooking the creek has a wonderful sound at night!

We booked a junior suite through a discount site (SniqueAway) and absolutely loved it. We're already planning our next visit! It is near the gondola, but not next door - just a short walk up the hill. Everything was very clean, and the whole place was exceptional. If you're visiting Telluride, I highly recommend staying in Mountain Village. It was much quieter than the always-bustling Telluride, and the gondola ride is a beautiful and quick 13-minutes down to town. When you get to the top, check out the Telluride airport west of town. It's up on a cliff and is a beautiful view.

This was our first trip to Telluride and I picked this location due to the price and the amenities that were offerred by the facility. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite that was fantastic. It was roomy, had a patio we could sit out on and enjoy our coffee, had a fridge where we stored our food and drinks, and the bedroom/bathroom was roomy enough for 2 to get ready. The staff at Mountain Lodge were extremely friendly. They helped us plan our hike, made reservations for us on our 4x4 journey to bridal veil falls, and provided great recommendations to local restaurants. The bartender was friendly and full of conversation, which made us make several trips to the lounge to have a few cocktails before we left on any excursion. We had breakfast by the pool area and the food was great and the scenary/overlook of the mountain range really made the breakfast spectacular. The location of Mountain Lodge was very convenient since it is a quick walk to the free gondola to Mountain Village and Telluride. Overall I was extremely satisfied with our stay and I will be sure to stay at Mountain Lodge for our next trip to Telluride.

We are fortunate to travel to many places throughout the year and Mountain Lodge rates as the best combination of location, views, facilities, & staff at all levels. We park the car when we arrive and don't touch it again until we leave for home - the access to the gondola, hiking trails, shops, restaurants is outstanding. Lots to do, yet the atmosphere is quiet and very relaxing. We choose a one bedroom and use the full kitchen - size is very good for two adults. It also has a comfortably sized balcony

Room Tip: Views are good from most units, but the north and west are best for sunsets on the mountains and wat...

We stayed at the Mt Lodge for 5 nights in June for the Bluegrass Festival. First, a couple of words about Telluride and the Festival itself. There is no more spectacular and dramatic spot in Colorado than Telluride. Simply put, it defines our state's High Country. I'd attended the first 18 Bluegrass Fests but hadn't been back for 10 years or so. It too is the standard by which others are judged. The very finest musicians on their instruments in the world, a veritable who's who of the now defunct Frets magazine, playing amidst this epicenter of majestic beauty, all organized down to the nitty gritty details. I highly recommend it. The Mt Lodge? Not quite so much. Like most of the lodging during the 3rd weekend in June, especially up in Mt Village, it's premium priced. Supply vs demand. I get it and accept it. We've stayed at this particular property probably 4 times, with 3 different operator/owners. When it was a Wyndham property, it seemed more upscale, perhaps because it was newer. Now it's run by an outfit out of the Pacific Northwest and needs some upgrade, a facelift of sorts as it appears tired in spots. We were in a 2 bed unit, garden view, both good news and bad. The bad: seemed cramped, tiny kitchen with very nice finishes, dark, with no views. The good: it was cool during an unusually hot June weekend at this elevation, plus taking our dogs out was more convenient. Oh yeah, the dogs. One of the primary reasons for booking here, as they're welcome and walks up and down the adjacent ski run are nice. Small pool but great vistas. The daily parking fee would be easier to swallow if, when you checked in, you weren't advised that there was no parking on the property itself but rather in the lot above near the gondola. To their credit, they helped solve that issue (Thanks Victor). And it should be noted that parking is merely a nuisance normally; it's a nightmare during Bluegrass. For winter guests, the Mt Village location and ski-in ski out access is a big plus. If you like being around the pickers, many of them stay here, which helps explain why parking space is paltry, buses, equipment trucks and all. I could have sworn that was Robert Plant walking to the Gondola but alas, Allison Krause did her set with no former Led Zeppelin harmony. Must have been a look-alike. But plenty of pickin' from the balconies and more than one dobro case being loaded on the shuttle. My only frame of reference for comparison is the Peaks hotel and that's not quite apples to apples, as The Peaks is more hotel, less condo and more service and up-scale amenity than the Mt Lodge. Still, you're in Telluride and the Mt. Lodge ain't exactly slummin'.

Room Tip: Go for a condo at the end of the property toward the ski run

We had a great time at Mountain Lodge and we thought it was a very nice place. We stayed in one of the cabins and loved it. Its a great place to stay unless your traveling with dogs. We travel with our two dogs. Every other resort we have stayed at understands that housekeeping can not clean if the dogs are alone in the room. They either will come at a certain time every morning or with a phone call. They usually prefer the same time every morning. I asked twice if something similar could be done here and I was told that it was not possible. So we found ourselves doing one of two things. Waiting around for housekeeping or just leaving with the dogs and hoping that they would come while we were gone. We had several days where we had no cleaning because of trying to cordinate with housekeeping.
We are coming back in February but we will be staying at a different resort, one that has no problem scheduling cleaning for the same time every day. We usually take the dogs out first thing in the morning then go skiing and return in the early afternoon and take the dogs out again. If we stayed at Mountain Lodge with this schedule we would never have maid service. Mountain Lodge is a very nice resort but if traveling with dogs and you want maid service it would difficult to stay here especially during ski season. If we had received daily maid service we would have given a much better rating

My wife and I reserved a room for 5 nights at a special, discounted price. My mistake: I paid no attention to the square footage of the room. I mean, in a good hotel, a room is a room, and even in a low cost motel, rooms are a comfortable size. Right? Not here. The room was TINY! It contained a queen sized bed with a bedside stand on each side. And a wall next to each bedside stand. There was also a small chest of drawers in a kind of alcove. No chairs. No desk. No room for anything more.

I asked if we could upgrade to a larger room. The price offered was not the difference between the standard rates of the two rooms, but the difference between the discounted price we had already paid, and the full price of the larger room. It would have cost us $300 more for the 5 days. Too much out of our budget, so we bit the bullet.

There is no need for air conditioning in Telluride, but there was a fan in the room. As I told the desk clerk, it appeared to have been dropped out of the 2nd story window of the room at some point, and made an unearthly grinding clatter each time it was turned on. Annoying. He hesitated, then said he would send another one to the room if I really wanted. Now wait. Why would I have mentioned it? But I thought, "Well, your call." Once the fan got going, it quieted, so I did not insist.

There were several things about the room, even dismissing its tininess, that were poorly planned. The closet was just barely adequate--I won't complain about the size of it--but the way the door was set up made access very difficult. The sink area was cramped, and lighted only on one side, which made shaving a bit more difficult for me, and makeup a bit more difficult for my wife. The soap dish in the shower did not drain; if we forgot to clear the water from it after a shower, we returned to a soft and soggy bar of soap. How do I explain the next part? The water level in the toilet bowl was too high. Ummm. Is there a polite way to say it? The discomfort and icckkk factor when one's male equipment finds itself in sudden and unwanted contact with water in a toilet bowl is . . . well, enough said. Bad planning.

The entry area to the building in which we stayed was dingy and totally uninviting. The carpet looked as if it had been there just a little too long and had been cleaned just a little less often than it should have been. The furniture was worn out looking. Not pleasant.

We ate one meal in the restaurant there--called The View. It is a great setting. We had breakfast. Each of us had coffee, a bowl of oatmeal (with raisins and brown sugar), and toast. The bill, once I added a generous tip for the good service, was something over $30. Good food and coffee, but we chose to eat elsewhere after that.

And one more thin. When you see the price quoted by the Mountain Lodge at Telluride, it amounts to false advertising if you happened to drive a car. Add their $20 per day parking fee, about which they say nothing until you check in, and about which you can do nothing. I understand that in a prime real estate area such as this, where space is at a premium, there may be a need for this extra cost. I do not understand the failure to openly disclose that cost in the booking process.

Would I stay here again? If I were a bit more flush with cash, so that I could upgrade to a more spacious accommodation, possibly. However, I would first check out other lodging in Telluride and nearby places.
