We LOVED the Mountain Lodge (January 2006). We had a suite I suppose - sitting area separated from sleeping area by a 2-way fireplace, large bathroom and a kitchenette. A nice little balcony (though it was freezing outside) with a view of the slopes and ski-in/ski-out access. We rented our skis on-site, and it was so nice to be able to stop back at the room to add or remove layers, grab a quick snack, etc. The town gondola was such a great way to get around, we did not need a car at all. My only complaint is that the Great Room bar was out of Fat Tire! Loved Telluride, loved the Mountain Lodge, we will definitely be back.

Our family of 4 checked into the Mountain Lodge on a Sat. afternoon. I had called about a week earlier to see about upgrading our room and was told that there were plenty of rooms available and that i should just wait until i arrive so that i could just "have my pick of rooms". So i did. Only to arrive and to be told that they were sold out and would not be able to upgrade my room due to the Bob Dylan concert in town. Shouldn't they have known that would happen and let me upgrade when i called?? So they stuck us in a room that they called a condo but was so small that we could hardly function in! I had asked for a mountain veiw but was given a room at the end of the hall with a view of the electrical box for the building and a rock wall. I chose the Mountain Lodge first of all because it was "pet friendly" ..I called the Lodge directly to make my reservation and told them i had a dog and was never told about a "pet friendly fee".So when i was sitting in my room one afternoon and the phone rang.....answered and the "not so friendly" lady at the front desk says,"We would like you to know that housekeeping told us that you have and pet and we want you to know that there is a $50 per night fees for pets and we will be putting that fee on your bill." A day went by and my husband talked them down to 1/2 of that fee. FYI...Hilton Hotels don't even charge for pets!! Also, when we checked in we were told that there was no parking available ....all of the $20 per night spots were taken and that we could use the Valet if we wanted to...our car would be taken far away to that lot...We decided on the free parking that was about a mile away...which was a beautiful walk...if the weather was nice....which it usually is.The picture of the pool on the website looks so beautiful....IT IS TINY!!! And always so crowded that we never went for a swim.
One night we decided to go to the "tavern" located in the lobby of the hotel.....the "tavern" had 3 beers on tap....one red wine...one white wine...and one white zin...yuk!! Don't bother! But the stand in bartender was nice and gave us some good info on the town...all in all i would pick another place to stay....the staff was sooo unfriendly and rude...A few exceptions ...the driver of the bus that will take you to the gondola was nice. So was the bartender...Telluride is fun...The free gondola was great and close to the hotel...thats it.. Have fun in Telluride tho...fun town..lots to do..

Initially I was given a very small, hotel style room without any table/desk/cair on which I could place my belongings. It was way too small considering the suites with balconies that most other guests were offered (for the same cost). Based on the small room I'd say this place is below average - the room was dark, inadequately furnished and dirty soap was left in the soap dish.

After a couple of days of balancing everything (unsuccessfully) on my suitcase as a makeshift table, I requested to be moved to a better room and was given one of the studios containing a small kitchen, bedroom and living room. This room was above average standard and very well equiped. If you are staying in Mountain Lodge make sure you stay in this level or else you'll get claustrophobic and won't be able to benefit from the location. Naturally, with such a beautiful location it is hard to be critical. Note the jacuzzi bath doesn't do much and don't book just for this!!!

The hotel itself have amazing views and wonderful ammenities. The staff was somewhat pleasent as well. The room was perfect for the price and there are so many things to do in Telluride. The one thing I hated was the concierge Kristen. She was very snotty towards my family and I and knew harldy a thing about the town. Aren't the concierges supposed to have the most knowledge of the town? How can you reccomend a place to guests that you know nothing about? I think the front desk supervisor.. Sonya? knew more than the concierge. Also the other concierge Micheal always seemed to smell like acohol and didnt look like he showerd at all. Quite disgusting. If you want to have a great trip to Telluirde this is a great place to stay, but make your own dinner reservations, this way you wont have to deal with the acoholic concierge or the snotty one that talks down to you... good luck in your finding and i hope this helps you make a descion on where to stay.
