“The Peaks was excellent----Penthouse #842 was greatly lacking in what we expected!!”
At one time, I am sure it was a first class unit, yet it now reaks of lack of attention. It was tired and worn down....even dangerous.
The toilet on the main floor (of 3) was not functioning properly. Silver Star acknowledged that, but never fixed it in 6 days. The microwave was ancient, and after two 5 minute cooking cycles would cut off (overheating, I guess). After 30+ minutes it would work again. When Silver Star came to look at the problem, the microwave was working. Their reply to us was it was just fine, we probably were not operating it properly. DUH
The scariest issue involved the gas oven in the gas range. One morning while cooking we had an incredible explosion and "fireball" blow the oven door wide open. I was standing three feet away, initially, and was knocked back from the blast. The "fireball" scorched the front of my clothes and singed the hair off of the back of my hands. When Silver Star was contacted, they did not seem alarmed or concerned one bit ! They sent someone to check the range that afternoon, yet the young boy had no technical experience whatsoever. He said everything looked OK to him, and were we sure the blast really occurred !!??!! I will admit a judge, a bank president, a large retail store owner and two accomplished IT executives might not be all that bright, yet a 62 year old life insurance salesman knows a gas explosion !!!
Incredibly, there was not ONE fire extinguisher in the entire unit. Even when told of that fact, Silver Star never delivered even one in 5 days !!! Unsafe ?? Against the Fire Code of Colorado???
Chairs were broken, sofas were in horrible shape, water pressure was sporadic, the HVAC fan ran 24/7 (very loud), the thermostats were useless for temperature control, a tub was totally stopped up, ran out of paper towels, etc, etc, etc.
When we arrived in #842, there was one 4 cup coffee maker-----that was broken. Silver Star did purchase a 12 cup appliance the second day for us, so not everything was bad.
We have been to Telluride 7 times for skiing and have always had "exceptional" accomodations---in town and Mountain Village. We expected the same with the Silver Star operated Penthouses at the Peaks. To say that we would never use Silver Star again is quite the understatement !!
Silver Star's staff with whom we had contact prior to arrival were very pleasant and accommodating. I was just extremely dissappointed after we arrived !! The Peaks staff and facility were first class.
