“Wondeful Hotel, but a little sewage...”

New Sheridan Hotel

Feb 6, 2008

I have mixed feelings on my stay at the New Sheridan. The rates were $250/night for a reguar room, but $150/night for the same type of room with no bathroom. You end up using a shared bathroom dorm-style down the hall. We figured why not? The problem was, the ladies 3rd floor shared bathroom smelled like sewage and I could hardly stand being in there to do anything. I figured out I could just run down to level 2 for a smell-free shower, etc.. Also, the bathroom was down the hall, so I did use it at night-time - but by the time I walked all the way down the hall, had the floursecent lights shining in my eyes; I just couldn't fall back asleep. I wonder why they don't have a nightlight in there? Also, the showers have a tiny soap dish in there but they need to install another $5 shelf for shampoos and things. You end up putting your stuff on the shower floor which looked dirty. I never quite felt clean or relaxed due to those bathrooms. They look like they were updated in 1982 - ick.
Anyway, the hotel is beautiful inside, it does seem very European - you could forget you're in America. It is a historic hotels, so it's no surprise that the rooms are small but quaint and decorated in a way to fit the old charm of the hotel. That was somewhat of a problem b/c we stayed in the winter and had lots of bulky stuf just lining the walls. There is no closet. The staff was very helpful, I am a light sleeper, so they gave me a fan for white noise which helped. If you are a light sleeper, request the 3rd floor b/c quite often I heard the bar music (subwoofer) on the 2nd floor. The hotel is old and creaky too and the doors close pretty loudly, but people typically are quiet at night so it wasn't much of a problem.
There is a computer on 1st floor so you can get in the internet whenever you want. Also, at any time you can help yourself to coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cider, and typically apples. The breakfast is delicous - they make one thing (such as sausage/biscuits and eggs or french toast with bacon) each day and also give you cold buffet style choices as well. Later in the day they have some chocolate chunk cookies which are pretty good.
Overall, I liked the hotel and the staff. The next time, I'd stay on the 3rd floor WITH a bathroom in my room!!!

“Loved It--New Year's Eve 2007”

We stayed in the New Sheridan Dec.28-Jan.2 & it was very pleasant. My fiance had stayed there once before, but my sister & I had never been. I loved the historical style of the building & while it has been restored nicely, they still had modern convieniences.

The breakfast was great---coffee, teas, juice, cereal, fruit, oatmeal that is kept heated in a crock pot, english muffins, bagels, and they have a different featured hot item each day (french toast, eggs & bacon, etc).

They provide free boot warmers & ski lockers in the basement, although we stored our skis in Mountain Village because we were always tired at the end of the day & didn't want to lug them uphill to the hotel (Just a couple blocks from gondola, but the altitude affected us).

In the lobby there is free internet access (wireless in the rooms also), and free hot chocolate, coffee & tea at all times. We always stopped in there & had some when we got off the mountain.

We had NO issues with noise. We were on the top floor & there New Years Eve when a band was playing down at the bar (we came back to the room about 12:30 am) and we weren't bothered at all.

A note on the rooms, they are small, but are totally fine. My sister had her own room & it seemed like her & I were the only ones using the shared bathroom on the floor, so that wasn't an issue either. There are no closets in the room---but there are a few drawers, and hooks on the walls. Bed was very comfortable also.

The staff is very friendly & helpful, and they even made us a to-go breakfast because we left out before breakfast was served.

I am glad we chose to stay in town because all the restaurants are there, and you can just walk everywhere. Nothing was a hassle because it is a small town, but lovely!

“I loved almost everything...”

New Sheridan Hotel

Dec 25, 2007

I loved my stay at the New Sheridan. The breakfasts were amazing... the snacks in the late afternoon... the location... the public areas... it was great! I just didn't like the noise... and that overall the rooms were a bit smaller than I'm accustomed to. But, overall, I really enjoyed my time here. I would definitely stay here again... mostly because of how much I enjoyed the facilities, the food provided, the location and the price/value. i have no complaints, other than the noise... and the size of the rooms being a bit smaller than what I'm accustomed to. A great place!

We stayed there for a ski trip in Febuary 2007. And found it to be Excellent in almost every detail for such a historic hotel. We did have to share bathroms but that was much less a problem than expected. Must have free breakfast ours was Outstanding.
We have been to Telluride numerous times and this was less comercial than the other places we stayed. If too concerned with a little noise go to someplace in Mtn Village. We love the Lodge at mtn Village,But you will be using the Gondola a lot. Also the Bar at the New Sheridan is my favorite and oldest in town. Patron Margarita's

My husband and I recently finished an 11 day tour of Colorado, and Telluride was early in our circuit. We read all of the reviews and then called the hotel to request a room in the back. No luck - not 10 days before our arrival nor on our arrival. They staff did say repeatedly though that since we were on the third floor and not directly over the bar, we should not have a problem with noise. Not true; just as others have mentioned, the drunks came out after 11:00 and began hollering up and down the streets. We felt like we were truly in an old west town, just without the guns firing. Perhaps, this wouldn't have been a big deal if we could have comfortably kept our windows closed, but with no air conditioning, and on the third floor, we were left choosing the lesser of two evils. Other than the noise, the hotel is perfect. The central location is great. The decor is charming and breakfast was wonderful. Overall, I am glad that we stayed in this historic hotel, but I am especially happy that it was for only one night. We moved on to a wonderful night's sleep at the Double Tree in Durango.
