Description: Originally a private retreat built on a historic mining claim, this new addition to Telluride’s award-winning restaurants is a quaint European hütte perched near the top of Gold Hill. With hand-hewn beams and furniture crafted from reclaimed wine barrels, Alpino Vino provides a high alpine ambience and is reminiscent of restaurants found throughout the Dolomites of Northern Italy. Inside, a warm and inviting atmosphere, complete with a wood burning fireplace, stone floors and exposed wood beams, provides a perfect retreat from the slopes.Situated at 11,966’, Alpino Vino offers fantastic views of the Wilson Range. The expansive multi-tiered deck is a truly unique spot to enjoy a glass of wine with its European teak furniture, coveted daybed and comfortable sheepskin throws. An outdoor wine bar offers a spectacular setting for a midday escape. To visit Alpino Vino during the ski season, take Gold Hill Express (Lift 14) and turn left off the lift to ski down See Forever to our front door.Come enjoy the unique experience that is Alpino Vino!

“Don't miss it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We enjoyed a delicious lunch complete with superb service and an unmatched view at Alpino Vino in March. It was fun to learn that we were dining in the restaurant at the highest (altitude) in the US. We rode up Gold Hill Express (#14) to over 12,500 feet and skied "See Forever" run down a bit to reach Alpino Vino at 12,000 feet. Quite exciting to actually see La Sal Mountains in Utah in the distance from that majestic perch. My husband jokingly asked our waitress how she got to work. She grinned and said, " most people drive or walk to work." "I get to ski to work." Since it was close to zero degrees at that time, she added that she changed from her ski clothes to her Bavarian costume after she reached the restaurant! Yes, it was an expensive lunch, but well worth it! Will go again when we go back to Telluride!!

“Great wine, views and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

On a recent visit to Telluride to visit friends we splurged and had a bottle of wine at Alpino Vino. The wine was tasty and the staff friendly and professional. On a sunny afternoon if you want to experience a European style experience in Colorado head to Alpino Vino, you won't be disappointed!

We visited Alpino for both lunch and dinner and had a fantastic time on both occasions. Fun, relaxed atmosphere, incredible views, and fantastic food. You cannot do better than Alpino in Telluride.

“Paradise on see forever trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Had a fabulous lunch with the off menu gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and Gorgonzola tomato soup. Yummy! The hot chocolate is the bargain on the menu with extra chocolate and whipped cream all for $5 bucks. The wine is a lot on the "steep" side with the average glass around $15 and up.

The service and atmosphere is outstanding and the place begs me to return which I look forward too!

“Save your money and go elswhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

I am truly suprised at the number of positive reviews. I dined at Alpino Vino with a group last week and the place is unremarkable at best.

I will list Cons first since they are so numerous

Price: $175 per person not including any beverage is exceedinly steep considering what you get(you can forget about coffee/espresso at the end of your meal as well). I would pay that price point with no drinks at a michelin 2 star +. I have had cheaper meals at Le Bernadin, Eleven Madison Park, The modern etc...The wine pairing is another $75 per person or you can order a la carte which is craxy $$$. The sommelier tried to swap out some of the wines and "make a deal with us" his words not mine and gave us an old wine list. All i can say that was a little sketchy and off putting.

Food: Bordered on barely mediocre. 1st course was chef's interpretation of anchovie like bruschetta which was inedible. 2nd course was homemade ravioli which was just ok. 3rd course was a palent cleanser of tomato soup which was more like a consome out of a can and a quail egg and parmesean chip. 4th course was either lamp or sturgeon. Lamb was pretty good and the side was nice. Sturgeon was ok. Desset was choise of chocolate mousse (my favorite) and cheese (can we say sams club/costco selection?)

Service: the meal took so long to serve and we were left waiting around 45min+ for the first course. Again at this price point I expect certain levels of service. Plates were left at the table well beyond when were finished. We did not see the chef or kitchen ...i have no clue where they cooked the meals (for all we know if was frozen meal doctored up by the staff...that would be a nice racket. The waiters were a bit surly and announced no substiutions to the menu (not like was asked for any).

Location: The place is very small and seating is uncomfortable and tight. You do not have a view of the mountain from inside but the outside view is lovely. Be warned that the restroom is located outside a short walk in the snow to what looks like an outhouse (it's heated and not so bad...don't wory it's not a hole in the ground).

Pros
Only one pro - the SNOW CAT ride. What a coold way to go to dinner. My advice is save your $$$ and just do a snow cat ride if possible. Dinner was not worth it.
