Just came back from Telluride for a weekend wedding. It rained from Friday to Monday while we were there. The hiking trails looked awesome but couldn't experience it. A lot of Colorado was being flooded at this time. The hotel was very nice. Our room was nice and spacious. We had a small balcony that looked over the putting green which was probably the ice skating rink in winter. I absolutely loved the curtains in the room- They were dark and covered perfectly. All one peice so therewas no crack in the middle for daylight to show through. I had absolutely no idea if it was morning yet, bc they worked so well. I also did not know what time it was b/c for some reason the hotel does not give you a clock! Weird. There is a mini fridge that was no cooler than outside. But they left you water in cute glass water bottles to pour into glasses and two of the tiniest red apples I've ever seen. Two chocolates at the turn down service. There is never enough towels and wash clothes for us, but we called and they brought more very quickly. Problem with the safe when we walked in and they fixed it immediately. Found out the last day that they put sweets in the lobby in the evening. Nice when I happened upon them but no one told me about it. There are several eating places around the hotel- pizza, Tracks, Starbucks (outside the door) and a really cool bar callked SmacK with a backwards "K"- big screen tv's and bar food. Tried the hotel buffet on Sunday morning. Big disappointment.- runny eggs and there was never enough waffles, eggs and sauage out at one time. It was $15 and they turned customers away by 10:30, which was strange. Not enough servers and they had to get someone from the spa to help out. They gave us free valet parking in exchange to do an online survey. Valets were nice and helpful. They lost the father of the bride's personal car. Police were called in b/c cameras showed 4 men taking it out that morning. It was returned later at night, b/c the valets gave the people the wrong car. This is strange b/c you would think the people would have noticed that the console was filled and there were golf clubs rattling in the back all day. My husband did the oxygen bar inside the Spa. He loved it and thought it was essential to any stay on a mountain. The bed was very comfortable and we each had two large fluffy pillows. I'd say they were some of the best hotel pillows I've ever had. Once you park your car, there is no need to use it again. The Gondola is very close and Allfred's (excellent) restaurant where the reception was held and the wedding cliff (beautiful) were the first Gondola stop. We saw many rainbows all weekend from the Gondola. The next stop was down in the town of Telluride where all the shops were and the Blues/Brews Fest was. I have never been to a town where there were so many shops but absolutely nothing in them. Leashed dogs are everywhere. There are a few restaurants in town. We only ate at Honza's Lotus Petal for the rehearsal dinner. Great bar setup in the basement for the private party. We got to sample all kinds of appetizers there. My husband who is not a big asian eater said that the egg rolls were the best he has ever had. It was all good food. Telluride is not easy to get too, but we found flights into Durango a lot cheaper-$204, instead of Telluride at $600. The drive isn't that bad. I booked the hotel through Travelocity b/c there was a better rate than the bride arranged through the block of rooms. Plus there was an additional 10% off. It was $200/night I will definitely go back in the winter to ski and I would love to stay at Hotel Madeline again.
