“Lovely Little Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We just spent 5 wonderful nights here. We've stayed here a few times before, but not since a major renovation several years ago. Our room was nicely updated and very bright, thanks to several windows that faced the gondola and the bottom of the ski hill. There is essentially no lobby, as the restaurant now extends into the lobby space; and they no longer have the beautiful library they used to have, which is unfortunate. Our room was a touch small, but excellently designed to make efficient use of the space. Although we had been camping/hiking and had lots of gear with us, we were able to completely unpack and organize our things. The kitchentte is fabulously convenient to have, too. There are 21 rooms, and dogs are allowed on the second and fourth floors. I really appreciate that they take dogs, but the fee of $25/day is high, especially for people who stay several nights. We were on the second floor, just over the bar/restaurant. It was a bit noisy at night with the gondola, the music from downstairs, and the people below our window on the sidewalk. But this is a small price to pay for the great location and lovely room. A very nice breakfast is included in the room rate: quiche, yogurt, granola, pastries, fruit, hard boiled eggs, and bagels. On site parking is $20/day if you can't get one of the few parking spots on the street. The staff are very efficient - our shower wasn't draining well, and it was fixed within an hour of when I reported it. Impressive! We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to stay here again soon.

Stayed for a business trip - first time in Telluride. Dog friendly hotel, gives it a very friendly feel; all amenities were lovely. Breakfast was wonderful, high quality food. Friendly and helpful staff.
Stayed in a corner suite (lots of windows and 2 balconies!) facing the gondola (which is right across the street), with kitchen, living room, and bedroom and 1.5 baths. The living room was a nice place for company informal gatherings, which was a nice, occasional alternative to going out - comfortably accommodated 9 people with the addition of a few of the dining room chairs. (There's a great liquor store and also a market close by, which is quite convenient if you want to bring in food and wine.) Highly recommended ... but there's a few things to know:
1) make sure you know how to use the keypad on the door to get in after hours. Ask to be shown - this wasn't straightforward and I almost locked myself out at 5 a.m. (staff doesn't arrive until later);
2) if you stay in a room facing the gondola, you WILL wake up when it starts at 6 a.m., and sometimes hear noise from people approaching the gondola (it's a busy spot);
3) the coffee pots in 3 different rooms in our party didn't work properly and shut themselves off before brewing - the staff cheerfully replaced these with working units, but my recommendation would be to test yours right away when you get into the room -- make a cup of tea to make sure it works; it's not fun to be coffee-less at the time I get up in the morning! ... I suspect this is a transient problem.
And just one minor critique of that magnificent suite - it was oddly lacking in drawer space. I would recommend to the hotel that they add one more bureau to the bedroom. It's OK for an overnight stay, but a bit tight for the luggage that comes with a 2+-night stay.

We stayed 8/1-8/6. Only quibble would be parking, but hey it's Telluride and the staff handles is it with accommodating grace. Several mornings we headed out predawn for hikes and they always had the car moved where it was accessible for us to just get in and go. Awesome job. Everything else from location, decor, cleanliness, service, euro-style breakfast, linens, shower and anything else you can think of was fabulous. Can't say enough about the General Manager and the young lady who waited on us for breakfast. Top notch, attentive job. This hotel will accommodate all. From the nature lover to the romantic couple to the hardcore biker. Definitely give Hotel Columbia a shot when visiting Telluride. Between the hotel and Telluride itself, they'll both have your heart.

We found Telluride such a wonderful discovery that we decided to extend our stay a few days. Needing a new hotel and needing a place that accepted pets, we stopped by Hotel Columbia. They gave us a great walk-in rate for a dog-friendly room. We loved our stay. The location is great and is only a few feet from the gondola. The gondola was so convenient, that we would take our dogs up to the top just to play mountaintop fetch with our energetic black labs (the view from the top is world class). The hotel is also very close to the restaraunts and shops on Main Street. The hotel has been recently remodeled and is very nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and roomy. The bed was dreamy (literally). Most importantly, the staff was awesome. Everyone was kind, helpful and a bit spunky. My wife and I have traveled throughout the world and even are part owners of a cooking school for travelers located in Southern Italy (www. Awaitingtable.com) and this was one of our favorite vacations ever.

My husband and I recently stayed here several nights during our wedding/honeymoon. We have never encountered such hospitality. Everyone that works at the hotel is so friendly, and the hotel itself is nice and cozy. We will always stay at this wonderful place whenever we return to Telluride. All of our guests that stayed there also had the same feelings about their experience. Many thanks to the staff at the Hotel Columbia!

We had the most amazing time at hotel Columbia in Telluride. The staff was friendly and very occomidating. The bed was so heavenly we never slept better. The town is so easy to get around and great walking. There is very little if any parking. That wasn't a real problem. We were given a list of all the vest places to eat, FYI you can't loose all the places have great food.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed yet another stay at the Hotel Columbia in late February/early March 2013. You simply can't beat this quaint hotel when visiting Telluride. Of course, its location doesn't hurt......right across the street from the Gondola and only a couple of short blocks from downtown. But its the "attitude" of the Hotel Columbia, as embodied in its warm and caring staff, that brings us back time after time. You truly feel welcomed and cared for at every level. Combined with its intimate size, the place feels like a home away from home. We look forward to many return visits.
