“Perfect visit for a small family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

I spent a week in Telluride in August with my wife and infant son. We found the Hotel Columbia to be the perfect spot for a much needed vacation in the mountains (and to escape the heat from Texas!). This was our first time travelling with our baby and the staff was very accomodating with our special requests in advance of our visit. Arriving to a welcoming, stress-free environment was exactly what we needed after a day of flying and driving.

My 5+ rating reflects Hotel Columbia's ability to meet and exceed our expectations. The location is ideal for those wanting to stay in the town of Telluride - walking distance to everything in town, the river, and most of the hiking trails. Most rooms overlook the mountains and the gondola. Some families may prefer the newness and extra space associated with the lodging in Mountain Village, but we really cherished the character and charm of staying in the town of Telluride. With only 21 rooms, Hotel Columbia is not a full service, resort-style hotel like some on the other side of the mountain, but that was exactly what we were looking for. If you are visiting Telleride for the first time, I'd encourage you to understand the differences between staying in Telluride vs. Mountain Village (they're benefits to both - it depends on the preferences of each visitor and the time of year).

I found the continental breakfast - with helfpul coffee service from the staff - to be the perfect way to start each morning. The offerings were more of the European variety (cheeses, prime rib, poached eggs, smoked salmon, quiche, yogurt, bread, fresh fruit, etc.) and all made in house with changes daily. All of it was exceptional and a welcome perk with Telluride not exactly being a cheap place to dine.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with small porch and a lot of natural light. Bathroom shower was walk-in and spacious. Overall, a very nice blend of modern upgrades in a historic building. Each of the 21 rooms is a little different, so be sure to find the right fit with the hotel staff during booking.

A lovely visit to wonderfull town--Telluride! The hotel is spacious and clean and the front desk very helpful. The Gondala is right outside the door and surely the 1 of the very best restaurants in town COSMO is in the lobby. You will not be disappointed. Breakfast very nice as well.

Hotel Columbia is the only place we will stay in Telluride. It is a lovely boutique hotel with 21 unique rooms having all the comforts of home, a very friendly and helpful staff, and a delicious breakfast that varies daily. The location is absolutely perfect for accessing the town of Telluride and catching the gondola to Mountain Village. Many thanks to Rhea and Brigitte!

We had a great visit to Hotel Columbia. The staff was very nice and accommodating, and our room was spacious and clean.

The hotel has a great location right next to the gondola to Mountain Village and just a few blocks from Telluride's downtown. The interior of the hotel is bright and clean. The brunch is presented nicely and the food is good.

The staff was very nice. We had our dogs with us, and they were very friendly toward them. When one of our dogs jumped on the bed and promptly vomited (sorry, gross), the staff came up immediately and changed our sheets with a smile on our face. We were very happy with our stay here.

We stayed at the Columbia for five nights. It's a handsome property right in town, steps from the gondola to Mountain Village, the Friday Farmer's Market, hikes and dining. The ladies at the front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful with check-in as well as offering advice for outdoor activities and dining. The hotel has a great Continental breakfast included (lots of great choices, not just your usual cereal and carb selections). Dogs are allowed for a fee. Parking in Telluride is limited, so you fork over $20 a night for parking and have to leave your key at the desk. We were always able to get our car fairly quickly but I could see it being a problem. Dinner at the in-house restaurant, Cosmopolitan, was one of the best meals we had all week!

Our room, though nice and well-equipped, had a very strange layout. It was a large room with kitchenette and balcony. but...the king bed was actually a Murphy bed; it was very comfortable and had great linens. The kitchenette was about a foot from my side of the bed. Very weird to be sleeping in a kitchen. The bathroom was spacious and had awesome amenities: a big glass shower, porcelain tub, and plenty of towels and products. The balcony was only reachable by going through the bathroom, and was only big enough for one chair and looked over the parking area. Very weird. I love hanging out on balconies but we couldn't sit there together, so we didn't use it once. Big walk in closet-very nice. The seating in the living room was leathery and comfortable. We had views onto the town. In the living room, the TV was mounted onto a wall with no furniture facing it. Watching TV required craning your neck and there wasn't a way to watch a movie from the bed, for example. All in all, a very nice room, but a nonsensical layout. If we stay there again, I will have to see the room first to make sure it makes more sense.
My favorite parts were the convenience of being right in town and the pleasant staff. Take the free gondola up to Allred's for sunset drinks and some of the best views around!

Room Tip: Ask when before booking-next time I'd ask to face the ski mountain.

My family and I did a road trip through Colorado last week. We stayed in Telluride for 3 days, 2 nights. Our room was large and comfortable, great views from our room as it had a wall of windows. Huge King Size bed. The location was perfect, a few blocks away from Main Street. Complimentary breakfast served each morning was amazing, banana bread, boiled eggs, granola, yogurt, quiche, assortment of meats and cheeses, orange juice, hot coffee and a mix of gourmet teas. We were able to store all of our mountain bikes in the ski locker area. There is a great restaurant in the Hotel called the Cosmopolitan. We liked the dinners there so much that we ate there 2 nights in a row. Would highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back next year!

We stayed one night at this hotel on our Colorado vacation. Parking is a nightmare. There is no place to even stop to unload your bags. The hotel charges $20 to park your car in the alley behind them then you have to surrender your keys. We ended up parking down the street and schlepping bags 2 blocks. I missed the charm of this place totally. Restaurant is way overpriced.

columbiatelluride, General Manager at Hotel Columbia, responded to this review, June 15, 2012
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize that your stay at the Hotel Columbia did not meet your expectations.

Unfortunately, parking in Telluride is very limited. The high demand for business and residential parking in the down town core and gondola area make it difficult for Telluride visitors to find parking. To help alleviate this problem and offer a convenient alternative for our guests, we offer on-site parking in our car-port for $20 per night. The Hotel Columbia strives to accommodate all of our guests’ parking needs. In order to maximize the number of vehicles we can accommodate, it is necessary for us to retain the keys for vehicles that are parked in our car-port. For guests that choose to park off-site, we welcome them to temporarily park in the car-port to unload/load their bags.

We will be sure to share your feedback of the Cosmopolitan Restaurant with their owner and manager as they are separately owned and operated from the Hotel Columbia.

Please except our sincerest apology for your frustrations. We hope to have the chance to serve you again in the future.
