Guided by pictures ( and upper level pricing..) we had expected a somewhat private/secluded site for this hotel, with great views over the mountains. What we got instead was a hotel right next to other buildings, tightly crammed into a loop drive, with construction going on all around. Our 1 bedroom residence didn't offer any views of the mountains, but of the entrance driveway with the construction crane. Our non refundable, fully charged reservation was from over 4 weeks before. Was there no better room available?
Upon entering the lobby , the young woman behind the desk only asked for our credit card, to put a $100 authorization for "incidentals" on to. That set the tone for our entire stay there: No friendly welcome, no sense of hospitality , just a few, hard to understand, foreign born employees, who, if not performing a minimal service for tips, seemed bored and uninterested in the welfare of the guests.
We understand that the property is being converted into condominiums, so apparently nobody cares anymore.
Glad we acted on another tripadvisor member's suggestion to park the car ourselves, and to thus save a $20 valet parking fee per day.
The bedroom residence itself was adequate, but not what I'd expect a 4 star property to be: the layout/floorplan was fairly tight, low ceilings, the queen sized bed had a rather spongy/ soft mattress, and the overall decor was in no way artistic or sophisticated, but looked a little outdated, borderline "cheap".
Even though lodging in Telluride is on the expensive side, to pay $239 per night (comes to 277 with fees and taxes) at the Inn just didn't seem like a good value. There is too much fluctuation in the price on these units for my liking: it will sell in late October for 138 per night , but then rise up to $725 ( !!) per night for the days over Christmas . Are they serious??
Next time, I'll stay in Telluride proper, probably at the Columbia. Heard consistently good things about it from people who stayed there.
