This hotel is perfectly located near the gondolas and ski lifts. The hotel is rather compact but has an overall cozy feel. Our one bedroom suite contained a gas fireplace, separate living/tv room, 2 flat panel televisions, washer/dryer, a kitchenette and a very nice bathroom containing a jetted tub and a steam shower. The room was a great place to relax after a long day on the slopes. Overall the room amenities were fantastic and the bed was super comfortable. Some noise could be heard from other rooms including 6.a.m. phone conversations and wake-up alarms but overall the hotel was quiet. Not so great was the service. I had to call the hotel several times to reach a reservation agent. When I was finally able to speak to someone, I was informed they only had a room available for the first three nights out of our our six night stay in Telluride. I asked if they would be able to transfer our bags to another hotel after our three night stay and the reservation agent said she would check and call me back. She never called. But the hotel did ultimately transfer the bags without any problem. The room was not cleaned well (especially the bathroom floor) and the turndown service happened only once during our three night stay. Service during breakfast was slow and disinterested. It just seemed like the seasonal employees appeared to lack training or just didn't care to provide the service expected when a room costs close to $500 a night. Despite an interesting menu, the breakfast food was average at best. We were served a bowl of obviously moldy rasberries and blueberries. The restaurant manager apologized and provided complimentary apres ski drinks and appetizers in the hotel bar which was very nice. Several employees were great especially Johnnie - the concierge/bellman. Overall - this is a very nice and cozy place to stay but the service during our stay was a notch below the room amenities. I would definately recommend the hotel and hope that service improves a bit.
Telluride has amazing scenery and is a great place to visit. The restaurants and even the food on the mountain are great. Try Baked in Telluride for Pizza. Yum!! You definately don't need a car to get around as the free gondola provides transportation to and from the town, the ski area and even the grocery store and post office. As snowboarders, we found that the mountain is more suited to skiing as many of the blue runs (especially See Forever) have long areas that flatten out and the green runs are just to flat to board. But this mountain might just turn me into a skier because I really look forward to visiting again!
