We went here in the summer for a wedding at the top of San Sophia Ridge, knowing virtually nothing about Telluride. Our rooms were well-appointed: the bed comfortable; the bathroom elegant and our suite was nicely furnished with sink, fridge and microwave. Our room had sliding door access to the pool, whirlpool, sauna, bar and restaurant, which was very convenient. Our friend had a two bedroom, two bathroom room (55) with full kitchen, dining area, living room and balcony - we would have been happy to move in. There was turn down service and chocolate. We never had a moment to even turn on the television during those four days.
Breakfast was plentiful and varied, but the most impressive part of this hotel is its staff. Warm, friendly and accommodating - from the manager Claire and her husband, Bas, to the handyman/right hand man/go-to guy, Jose, to the bar staff, restaurant staff, concierge, Trevor, valet, Kyle, to the maid (sorry forgot her name).
I understand that in the winter, the hotel accommodates skiers by bringing their skis to the lifts. The hotel is small enough to be intimate and large enough to not make you feel that you are the only ones there. In fact, the day we left, it was fully booked but seemed almost empty. Lots to do in Telluride and Mountain Village...
One thing about Mountain Village - although new, it is laid out in series of plazas that seem to blend in with the landscape... a newer version of Trastevere Rome, except at at altitude of 10,000 feet in the San Miguel Mountains in Colorado. A very magical place indeed.
