“Cozy Port in a Snowstorm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

We were driving westward on US 36, late in an April day, heading toward Denver. Clouds were getting darker, and light snow began falling. When we reached I-70, darkness had descended and the snow was getting deeper. We exited at Strasburg, since there was nothing else available before Denver.
We found the Strasburg Inn, and were welcomed warmly ! We were practically the only guests this evening, and immediately took an upstairs room ..... thankful for the availablility of this "refuge" on what seemed like a Christmas Eve Snowfall .... though it was actually April !

Our upstairs room was small, cozy and had a double bed. Bathrooms were "down the hall", but since occupancy was low, we each had basically our own facility ! The price was very moderate.

The owner asked about supper, which we hadn't enjoyed yet, and directed us to a small cafe a short distance away......where we arrived just before closing time.

Back at the hotel amidst still-falling snow, we settled in for a "long winter's nap" ! A larger bed would have been ideal, but we were just glad to experience this 1-night stay in this warm and welcoming facility !

Room Tip: Ask for a queen-size bed if one is available. Otherwise, just enjoy the stay !!

We were on the road for 14 hrs. & were looking for a place to stay for the night. We stoped at the KOA down the road to stay the night, but it was after 11pm & the office was closed for the night, we didn't want to try to find a site & set up in the dark again. We looked online to see what hotels were in the area & found this one, so we called. The man on the phone said, "I have to let you know, the hotel is about 90 yrs. old & you have to share the bathrooms, some people don't want to stay if they have to share the bathroom." We asked what to price was for the night & were told $47. after taxes. We thought it was a good price, so we went. It was old, but the house we live in is over 150 yrs. old so we knew what to expect. The rooms & the bathrooms were clean, and the bed was comfortable too. As for the showers, you needed the read the instructions that were posted on the mirror to see how they worked, but they also worked well. It is more like a B&B or a rooming house than a hotel. But we just stayed in the Yellowstone Old Faithful Inn & had exactly the same thing there, shared bathrooms, but a smaller room at almost $100. more a night. So if you're like us, you just want a clean room, clean bed, & clean bathroom at a low price, then it is a good place for the price. But if you want a place with all the ammenities look for something else.
The man who checked us in was very friendly, explained everything to us, & gave us a choice of rooms. I got a good night sleep, didn't even hear the train at all, & had a nice hot shower at a low price.

Room Tip: Our room was on the left side of the stairs next to the bahtrooms, it had a mini fridge, t.v., and r...

We thought we were lucky to find this room because all of Denver was booked due to fires around the area, as the manager pointed out to us. It is an old establishment and only had one room that had it's own bath, for an extra amount, so we took it. At first glance the inn doesn't look too bad even tho the stairway that you had to carry your luggage up was very narrow as was the hallway. The room was a decent size and it had air conditioning. The problem was that it is not well kept at all. The carpet, such as it is, didn't appear to have been vacuumed for a very long time. Other peoples hair was all over the bathroom floor, which I wiped up. The throw rugs in the bath needed laundered or at least shook out. It looks like all they do is change the sheets and close the door for the next person. I am not a clean freak but this was dust and dirt that had not been cleaned up for a long time. The bed was remarkably comfortable and clean but even though the manager said there was a coffee pot in the room, it was very unclean looking and no coffee or condiments were provided. The worst was the shower. It had a shower head and it had a faucet for the bath but we couldn't find any way to turn the shower on. We searched all over the shower head and the faucet and there was no pull up button, or push button or anything at all. There also was no plug for the tub so you couldn't even take a bath. If a shower was possible there should be directions on this one. Be prepared for a very close train to come by, whistle blowing. If this place had a really thorough cleaning it wouldn't be too bad as a last resort but if we had it to do over again we would have travelled the extra miles to find much more clean accommodations. Would not stay there again.

Room Tip: This inn is more for the traveling male that just needs a bed to sleep in. Not a family inn.
