“Nice room, very clean, right downtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2014

I try to stay at non-chain motels, and this one is just the kind of place I love - retro neon bunny sign and all!

The staff are very friendly and they upgraded me too a bigger room in the back @ no charge. The room is very clean and BIG - maybe 30' front to back, with a little covered balcony. The sink is just outside the bathroom, with good counter space. There's a small frig, microwave and coffeemaker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board.

They're right downtown - easy walking to shops and restaurants. The free shuttle bus to the mountain and down the main drag stops right at the corner every 20 minutes. Plus they're right across the street from Old Town Hot Springs, and you can get discount tickets - and a towel - at the front desk.

My husband and I come to Steamboat at least once a year on our motorcycles. We have had to stay other places when Rabbit Ears is full, but definitely Rabbit Ears is our first choice. We like the king rooms. They don't have a view of the river, but they have a private back balcony and are very clean. They didn't have any king rooms on our last trip so we took two doubles that had a view of the river. The room was not as nice. It needed some updating. The carpet and comforter were old. We had a private balcony facing the river, but it was in the sun in the afternoon and the other guests were all out on their balconies smoking. We couldn't even leave our door open at night to hear the river because of the smokers. But don't let that detract you from staying here! Ask for one of the king rooms on the upper floor. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: We prefer the king rooms that don't have a view of the river. The rooms on the river are two do...

My friend had made the reservations and evidently booked 2 double beds. When we got there the person in the office said she was upgrading us. I don't know which part of the hotel the original room was, but we were in the most easterly building and the river ran right behind our first floor room. We had a balcony, but we didn't use that as we just walked out our door and about 75 yards to the river bank. We sat along the river enjoying all the rafters coming down the river. The room was clean and even though this motel is on Lincoln Ave. which is the main street through town, we had no noise from the traffic. We had taken a pretty long hike during the day so we were glad to have such a great place to stay. After we cleaned up, we just started walking through town to find a restaurant. No need to use your car if you want to eat and visit places right on main street. Good restaurants and shopping. The Continental breakfast was just like any other you find with bagels, toast, yogurt, juices and coffee. The breakfast room was well cared for by their staff making sure nothing was running empty or out. If you prefer a motel setting to an indoor type hotel setting, this locally owned place is a recommendation from me. Being near the river and also taking a walk along the river path was relaxing. Have fun in Steamboat..

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the street with the river nearby.

Booked during the last Tour of Colorado Pro Bicycle Race...Easy walk to finish line. Walk to the Yampa River and Howelson Hill. Many restaurants near by. Classic Steamboat small town charm.

Very nice staff!!!!.

I so wanted to love our stay at Rabbit Ears. Planned a short trip in with my kids and read all the great reviews. Soundsd right up our alley and I am pretty darn easy going. We started off waiting 10 minutes at front desk w/no one home after a long drive. Then the front desk rep was more concerned about getting to the phone call on hold than making sure we had/knew everything we needed. The view from our room is pretty much the positive about the place. Room is tiny, bathroom tiny. Comforters are dingy and sticky and stained, don't feel to have been cleaned in some time. Some of the white towels dingy and stained. We walked down to the river to dip in the hot springs and found a bunch of 20 something's with beer cans everywhere cursing left and right. My kids are little, nice. Similar scene in and out of rooms. Then finally I was looking forward to sleeping to the sound of the river and opened our balcony door before getting in bed. Not 5 minutes later was our room filled with cigarette smoke. This is a nonsmoking room which means no smoke in our near it, as in the occupants do not come into contact with smoke. Well guess our neighbors room wasn't, or they didn't have the courtesy to honor that a nonsmoking room includes the balcony. What a disappointment.

We are sorry and disappointed your stay wasn't as expected. It appears we got started of on the wrong foot by your wait at the front desk. This time of year it is busy, but your wait is unusual. Customer service is a priority. The room is over 380 square feet with 2 queen beds and a day couch and is considered to be large by today's standards. The bathroom is divided so makes it appear smaller but provides privacy. All comforters and linen was brand new throughout the property on June 1 2014. The linen is fresh and clean and cleaned on a regular basis. CLEANLINESS is one of our top priorities. We have no control over the public park 1/2 block away but could of called local enforcement. The smoking incident and most other issues could of been resolved by a simple phone call to the front desk. We would prefer to resolve any issues when you are here and leave with a positive experience.

We stayed in a queen room here and it was very clean and quiet. Room was definitely on the small side, but that didn't really matter to us since we were in Steamboat Springs to enjoy outdoor activities and hardly spent any time just hanging out in our room. The bed was super comfortable and shower was great. The location is excellent for the price. Right across from hot springs and easy walking distance to downtown restaurants--a huge bonus because parking downtown fills up quickly at dinner time. Our one complaint is that the A/C unit is inches from the bed so it was hard to comfortably cool the room without freezing while in bed. Other than that, we loved it!

Room Tip: Spend a little more and go for the king room if you care about having a more spacious room or want t...

We had two rooms here in June of 2014 for one night. Steamboat springs wasn't our primary destination as were were headed to Yellowstone on our motorcycles. This was just a place to rest up overnight, but we like to stay in places with a little history when we can as opposed to the dime a dozen chain motels. The price was average and the rooms were clean, so overall we were happy with our stay. Only thing I noticed was that the guest book in the room stated there was a fee to use the pool, so we didn't even go. I'm not sure if that was correct so maybe management can chime in. In all my travels I've never seen a motel that charged an additional fee for pool use. Other than that all was good. We did use the laundry facilities which were good, and the front office has detergent packs for sale for a small fee.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Luxury night's sleep minus the luxury price The Rabbit Ears Motel, located in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is your choice for comfortable, affordable lodging right in the center of downtown. Either they built Steamboat around our motel, or our motel was conveniently built in the center of all the action. So, both ways, you know that all the activities and nightlife the valley provides are in close proximity. Choose a weekend get-away for the family, or stay with us the whole week. World-class skiing with slope-side ski-in, ski-out convenience is expensive and overrated. Our motel is right on the main street and just a 5 minutes' bus ride to the gondola and the base of the ski area. Oh, and the bus is free. Lastly, all our guests are welcome to get reduced-priced Old Town Hot Springs passes for our recreation center, just across the street. ... more   less
