“Sheer sheets, Blood-stained mattress, NO Mattress pad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2008

If you decide to stay here, be smarter than I and check your
bedding first thing. Sleep was nigh impossible with the
threadbare sheets on my bed which I could see the
mattress through them and saw large blood spots on it.
Probably I wouldn"t have seen the blood had there been
a mattress pad but there was none on my bed.

  • Liked — Beautiful town.
  • Disliked — Cheaping out on bed linens.

My husband and I stayed for 1 night in early December, 2007. Room was nice size, and the beds were comfortable (I think Pillow Top). We had our three dogs with us. They were allowed in the room at no additional charge. I don’t think they advertise this though. All online reservations stated no pets allowed. However when I called, they said pets were allowed.

The biggest problem was the water. It smelled so strong of sulfur/sewage, we couldn’t bath, brush our teeth, ect. The dogs refused to drink it, and they love super stinky stuff. We talked to the front desk and they said they would send a maintenance person to check it out. He came by and agreed that it had a very bad smell. He also said that is was the same for every room. We are aware that steamboat has geothermal activity and that the springs are sulfur based, but this smell was way worse. When we tried to discus this with the man at the front desk, he was very rude and stated that the water is fine, it did not smell and there was nothing wrong with it. My husband asked if we could get a discount because we were unable to shower or use running water. The employee refused. We then asked if he would at least call someone possibly from the health department or something to check the water to make sure there wasn’t a problem for any future guest. The man again refused stating that the water was fine, it smelled perfectly fine and there was no problem with it. We went ahead and checked out figuring maybe there was a problem with the water treatment plant in town. We then went to multiple stores on our way up to Strawberry Hot Springs and tested their water. It all tasted and smelled fine. Something was definitely wrong with the hotel's water. We even filled a water bottle up with the water from the Hotel and had other people smell it, and they agreed it smelled awful. So we called the health department and left a message. Never heard anything back.

So if you want a nice comfortable place to sleep, it is great. If you want to use the water for bathing, drinking, etc. I would not recommend it. Also the difference between the attitude of the night front desk employee and the daytime front desk employee was well like night and day. The person who checked us in the night before was obviously a local, very friendly and knowledgeable. The daytime front desk employee was very rude and a foreigner. He spoke very broken English, and had a very bad attitude (probably because every one was upset about stinky water)

  • Liked — Comfy beds, pets allowed
  • Disliked — Stinky water, attitude of Front desk person

First of all, Steamboat is absolutley the most beautiful place in the spring.

We stayed here last minute beause of business. The hotel is well kept and clean and the breakfast, free as it is, is better than the average drive through. It's about as continental as continental gets....You have all the danishes and a few other baked goods. Cold and hot cereal and juices were present as well. If you have a need for protein in the morning, they had breakfast burritos that you could microwave, They also had 2 fruit selections (bananas and apples) and yogurt. Not a bad selection but generally more carbs than protein.

That being said, we had a couple of issues that came about. Our family consists of mom, dad and 3 kids under 5 1/2 years of age. So we definitley look for the hotels that offer breakfast and those that have a pool. The swimming area is great. It's clean, well lit and indoors. We took all 3 kids there in the evening and all was good until the hotel fire alarm started to sound. This is a tile/concrete room and the alarm is a high decible screetch that left a ringing in our ears for about an hour. Nothing ever came of the alarm so perhaps it was just kids having fun?!

As we attempt to get 3 kids to sleep in the same room, you have to have some white, background noise to guide them into lala land. We usually have great success running the air conditioner or the fan. The fan in the room we were in would only stay on for 20 minutes at a time and then shut off. We had to keep getting up at night to turn it back on, again and again. Then, trying to cool the room down, it would also shut down early, irrelevant of weather it got the room to the desired temperature. Not a fun experience on a warm evening.

The hotel staff are all very friendly and full of smiles. This hotel has great views from any direction and is probably the best value in the off season for the money. Happy Touring!!!!!!

Family trip to Streamboat with primary needs being cost and cleanliness. Marriott delivered on both. Everything was very nice from the staff to the "better than avg" breakfast. Location is great, 10 mins to the base of the mountain and 10 mins to downtown. The kids loved the indoor pool and hot tub as well. Another plus is the large open field adjacent to the property where the kids had plenty of space to enjoy their first snow experience. If you are looking for a place that you won't have to worry about anything but what do do during the day.....this is it.

I stayed at the new Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Steamboat Springs on November 29th and 30th of 2007. I was in Steamboat for a series of business meetings. Upon arrival , I was greeted by the Front Desk Manager and promply upgraded to a room with a fireplace and hot tub. The check in was quick and easy. There is a fireplace in the lobby and a continental breakfast was included in my rate. My room was very spacious and clean. While there I utilized the indoor pool and hot tub and enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace in my room. The Fairfield is the no frills addition to the Marriott Family and suited me perfectly for a busy business trip. The rate was great! Immeditaly next door to the Fairfield is a Holiday Inn which contains one of the best Holiday Inn Bars and Restaurants that I have ever seen. It is just steps from the Fairfield and run by locals for locals. The bar was packed and friendly both nights that I was in Steamboat. They have a great Elk burger and Elk sausage and gravy for breakfast. The Fairfield is centrally located to everything in Steamboat and you cant beat the price.

Spent two nights at this hotel while looking for property in Colorado. Paid the walk-in rate of $119 for a king sized bed with spa and fireplace. Didn't need the spa or fireplace, but options within the hotel were limited, as we requested a quiet room away from the road. Our room was quiet, despite a rather noisy ice machine located right outside our door. The room was nice enough, but oddly shaped and the TV sat at a weird angle due to the spa tub. Good sized unit - the spa tub and fireplace would no doubt come in handy after a long day of skiing.

Front staff very helpful, especially the woman who checked us in. She let us look at a few of the available rooms before making our choice and couldn't have been more accommodating. Unfortunately , the woman at the front desk the following morning was the compete opposite and not particularly helpful.

Breakfast was included in the rate and was pretty good with several hot and cold food choices.

  • Liked — Spacious comfortable room, good breakfast
  • Disliked — Front desk staff on day of departure

We travel to Steamboat every year for the past 15 years and for the past 3 years we chose the Fairfield Inn & Suites from the Steamboat Chamber recommendation. It exceeded our expectations. We were there in April and the town had quieted down from the ski season ended and we checked into the Fairfield Inn & Suites and the sweet lady upgraded us at no charge to a room that had a Jacuzzi in it big enough for my wife and I. It was so relaxing. The room was big, clean, extremely comfortable, and had a great view of the ski mountain. We stopped back at the front desk to ask for dinner recommendations and the lady suggest a few places that would be open since it was the slow time of the year. The recommendation for dinner was great. We even brought her dinner back to thank her for her suggestion. The next morning we grabbed a few thing from the continental breakfast and checked out for our long drive back home. We were so well rested it made for an easy drive that is usually grueling. I recommend this hotel to anyone going to Steamboat and we will stay there each year we go back.
