“Not the best in Steamboat but certainly not the worst.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012 via mobile

I was here again on business and this time stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott. It's all the way at the south end of town next to the Holiday Inn. The Fairfield is an obviously older building but they have tried updating things a bit. I had a king suite which was large with a separate living area with its own tv and bedroom area also with tv. The living room tv had a DVD player as well. There is a mini fridge and microwave in the room. The bed was pretty comfortable and the heating and AC worked. What got me was that when I checked in they assigned me to my room and knew I was a platinum member. The room had two ancient tube televisions. The next morning I came by the front desk and asked if any rooms had new flatscreens. He said "yes all but the one you are in." I was thinking "why would you assign a platinum guest the worst room in the hotel when you obviously aren't sold out??" In their defense the maintenance person replaced both TVs with flatscreens the next day. So service was great. But I also mentioned to them that the water in the tub wasn't draining properly. They never fixed this problem. It's gross when you shower and you have to hurry and shower fast because it fills up the tub. Honestly my biggest issue with this place is the bathroom. Who updates a hotel with newer bedding and flat screen TVs and even replaces the vanity in the bathroom but puts in one that's at the old low height?? This place does. There's nothing worse than throwing your back out because you're all bent over trying to shave? Finally because it's next to Holiday Inn, you can walk next door and eat/drink at Rex's. Awesome food.

I have stayed in a few hotels in this area on regular business trips and this is by far the most comfortable, the rooms are well laid out, if you request a room facing the mountain the views are fantastic. The staff gets a 10 out of 10 for service and attitude the rooms I have had are spotless.
It is a little "out of town" but the REX'S Bar and Grill next door (walking distance) is a hidden gem with great food and atmosphere. The city bus service stops here as well so you don’t have to drive into town. It will probably cost you $10-$15 more a night than surrounding hotels but it is worth it!
I will continue to stay here whenever I am in Steamboat and will recommend.

I stayed in this hotel with Marriott points, as we were looking for a Steamboat ski vacation and didn't want to blow the bank. This worked out fine as the location was good, right on the main drag a short drive from both downtown and the mountain. The free breakfast was always ready and stocked, the room was clean, and the staff was friendly. I heard the shuttle was good as well but we drove over.

Overall, this hotel is a good value in Steamboat. Clean rooms and accommodating staff. Breakfast provided a adequate variety and quality. The staff in the breakfast area and Nick at the front desk were very cordial. Overall, I would recommend for the value.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

I stayed here for 3 nights in November for the ski area's opening day. The hotel is easy to find, clean, and I had no issues with road noise. Roy, one of the managers, was always cheery and pleasant. I had a large room with a refrigerator and microwave, which was quite comfortable.

My only non-five-star rating comes from the housekeeping staff, who neglected to take care of the room on one day. This was not a major issue, however, and I received fresh towels from the front desk with apologies.

I can't speak to the breakfast at this hotel, as I used the refrigerator and microwave that were in the room - there are City Market and Safeway grocery stores located closer to the center of town, so I shopped there for some groceries.

I plan to stay here when next I return to Steamboat.

We got a great rate at this hotel and were comfortable in it. Large rooms, nice to have refrig and microwave. However, it seems the housekeeping staff is not quite 100%. There were only 3 towels in the room (room had 2 beds and we ordered a cot). I don't mind that the first day, but after that it should be obvious to housekeeping that we have more than 2 people in the room. We had to keep going down to the front desk every day to get more. Microwave inside was dirty. Coffee pot was full of the last person's coffee when we arrived and never emptied during our stay which made me wonder if it was clean. Pool was OK, and there were plenty of towels down there, but pool surface (under water) had a dirty look to it. Sign says kids aren't allowed in hot tub, but pool is too cold for toddlers and no place for them to play (too deep). Breakfast is OK, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, pre-made breakfast sandwiches, but I've had better. Front desk staff was nice, but there were times when they just weren't there...seems strange to not have 2 people at a front desk at check-out time on a weekend. We were on a middle floor and could hear the people above us, so ask for the top floor if that bothers you.

Room Tip: Top floor on back has a great view of the mountain.
