“one of the worst Hampton Inns I have stayed at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2008

This Hampton Inn is without a doubt one of the worst I have stayed at, and I stay at alot of Hamptons,(130 nights last year). This hotel should loose its Hampton affiliation. The staff was unfriendly, uncaring, and unresponsive. The hotel common areas were dirty, the parking had big pot holes in it. The worst problem is the hotel is less than 100 feet from a set of railroad tracks, the trains would come by between 12 midnight and 2 am and then between 5.30 and 6 am so forget about getting a good nights sleep. The ceiling and walls had very poor patch jobs on some holes and the walls were dirty. The smoke detector made beeping sounds every 60 seconds,I complained about this and was told they allready knew about this and that maintence would fix it the next day. Didn't happen. The pool was dirty, the hottubs had so many bubbles in them it looked like someone had dumped soap in them. The mag key lock on our door would work aboyut every fifth time. I tried to find another hotel but it was Spring Break.

This is a nice hotel overall. Clean rooms and good staff. Great continental breakfast. My only complaint would be about the proximity to the train. Fortunately, I was only awakened once during the night. The property is located close to the hot springs and downtown restaurants.

People taking extended stays at major ski resorts like Steamboat often opt for the ubiquitous condominium accommodations. But if you’re in town for just a few days and need some modern accommodations at a reasonable price, consider the Hampton Inn.

The Hampton Inn is neither in the ski mountain village nor in the original downtown. It is between the two meaning it’s less costly than the skiing convenience of the village and much newer than the down town has-been’s. The biggest disadvantage is that getting to restaurants requires a car.

The property has plentiful the amenities requisite of skier accommodation: hot tubs, ski storage area, and laundry facilities. There’s an un-crowded shuttle bus to the ski area twice an hour that is more convenient and quicker than what many ski village properties are able to offer. There’s a hearty buffet breakfast each morning with enough tasty variety that one can ski all morning. And there’s free wireless internet should you need to remain in communication.

Check in has been efficient and error free during our two stays. The property is clean and in excellent condition.

Not a bad property …but not the very best of for Hampton. We didn’t go for skiing (forgive us!!) but it worked out fine for us. Very good rate for the accommodations. We ended up with their suite which was very spacious.. separate bedroom w/king bed, 2 queens in central room with wet bar .. frig .. microwave and 2 separate (but small) bathrooms. Very nice space, but you needed to walk up to the 3rd floor from the 2nd floor hall to access the room. Not a problem other than hauling luggage up the stairs. Room could EASILY and comfortably handle 6 IF you know your friends and/or family!! Beds and accommodations have apparently been upgraded, as they were certainly comfortable. Would be a GREAT place for a group not needing to be downtown or on the mountain but you would need transportation .. 1+ mile to the lifts or downtown, though they do provide a shuttle and the local bus is free.
Staff was extremely helpful.
Room, carpeting, overall appearance was a bit “worn” .. Not terrible, but noticeable. Breakfast .. similar to all Hamptons .. would love to have them step up a bit as it is a ski resort. Lobby is nice … but you don’t sleep in the lobby! Overall, not a bad deal.

I used some Hilton HHonors points to book a three day two night weekend hop with some friends to go skiing. First off, let me just say the snow was incredible. They received about 4 inches of fresh powder which made the skiing just right.

Overall, we were very pleased with the accommodations. They upgraded us to a very large room that easily accommodated four guys without even asking. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was essential before hitting the slopes all day.

From 7am until 11pm they have shuttle service that takes you to any ski lift location. This was great considering all the gear we had to carry. The shuttle will also take you to downtown Steamboat about 10 minutes out [A pretty good night scene for grabbing some food and beer afterwards]. The staff at the hotel was also very knowledgeable about everything from skiing to nightlife. All the locals are tapped in so I would definitely use them as a source before venturing off.

Overall, I would definitely recommend the accommodations.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2007

We had a great stay for two nights the last week of September, 2007. I booked it as a reward stay and through the Hilton HHonors website I was told that I would have a room with 2 beds, which while a king bed would have been preferred wasn’t the end of the world – especially when I wasn’t paying anything for the room.

When we arrived, it turned out we had something like a suite room with a king bed and a fold out couch, 2 TV’s, microwave, fridge, counter with sink, etc. I also requested in my notes when booking that we have an even numbered room (away from the parking lot and railroad track) and that’s what we received – even as a reward stay. Needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The room / hotel also appeared as though it may have been remodeled in the last year or so and was quite clean. It’s possible that the late September timing caught us squarely in the middle of the off season, and the hotel was not over busy, allowing us a room upgrade over what we may have had during ski season or the middle of summer.

As with most / all Hampton Inns, we took advantage of the free morning breakfast and coffee / tea / hot chocolate all day. Nice features when travelling with a child as you never know what they may want to eat.

All in all we had a great stay and I would stay here again. With our HHonors points, the stay cost us nothing.

Just a couple more observations…

- The hotel seems to be located about midway between downtown and the ski village. It worked fine for us, but if you want to stay right next to the mountain, you’ll want to find someplace else.

- Other reviews have noted noise from the train. We only saw the train once, when we were packing to leave. Our two days is a small sample size, but it doesn’t seem that train noise will be too much of a problem.

What amazed me about this hotel was that they had not redone the rooms in the new cushy Hampton style. We have recently stayed in four different Hamptons in CO, MASS. and Iowa and all had been redone with great pillows, duvets etc. It turned out they were in the process of redoing in the week end before Labor Day weekend, which seemed strange..( wouldn't mud season make more sense?). but nobody warned us of the noise and workmen in the hallways, though we were cautioned nervously about the train. The front staff were friendly and seemed efficient otherwise - and the room was clean, though certainly tired.- pillows were rather rocklike. The location was convenient, however, and we ate at the Three Peaks Grill ( ok, not great - i.e., bread was pretty awful) and a wonderful ly reasonable little breakfast cafe on the river, where we could eat outside and the staff was great - the name escapes me.
