“Great value in a beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2009

I travel frequently to south Colorado on both business and pleasure, and whenever I am in the area I make sure to book at the Allington Inn. Rarely will you find a hotel where you are made to feel more welcome and comfortable.
The new manager, Jill, has done an outstanding job of turning the hotel around in the mere 6 months she’s been there. The rooms are clean, quiet, comfortable, got free Wifi, and the free Continental breakfast is a real treat - with waffles even! The staff was professional, courteous, and very helpful in directing me to local eateries and other attractions. The hotel is pet friendly, with great riverside dog-walking locations nearby. The staff will do everything in their power to make your stay pleasant. They really do make you feel as though they care about you and will go the extra mile when needed. For example, the morning I left, Jill had shown up at 4 am, two hours before the breakfast’s scheduled opening, to have breakfast ready for a group of travelers who had to be on the road early. Try asking for that level of service at a chain hotel.
May you also be lucky enough to stay there on a day when Hiram is on duty, because a conversation with that gentle-mannered, displaced Texan will sooth the soul.

My wife and I have been going to the South Fork area for many years. We love this area!!
Had stayed at this motel in the past and had no problems. We booked a room and were dismayed on how "worn" the room was. Sheets were border line clean and furnishings looked like a well used college dorm room. They try to cover up by putting trinket soaps and shampoo that look nice but do not compensate for condition of room. We complained but they wanted to move us to another room that was not even close to what we had reserved. We complained again and the clerk on duty seemed confused as to what to do. The motel looked only about 10% full ? We complained to the manager the next day and she seemed about as clueless as to what to do. Very poor management.
As we have a vacation home in the area and know several local year round residents
we asked if they knew what was up with the motel. Owner evidently does not care as he wants to sell the property badly (check listings on web) and management turn over has been very high.
What a shame.

We recently stayed at the Allington Inn while on a ski trip to Wolf Creek. We had the most gracious treatment - it was like staying at a large bed and breakfast. The staff is so courteous and Jill, the General Manager treats you as if you are staying in her own home. We highly recommend the Allington Inn in South Fork. The price can't be beat and you are getting more than a value, you are getting hospitality plus.

It's perfect for a family or a family reunion. Best value in South Fork without compromising quality.

We stayed two nights there and were very comfortable. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel is close to shopping and only 20 minutes from the ski slopes. We would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed very much the size of the rooms, they were clean and comfortable. The staff were very accomodating and the breakfast buffet(s) were always well stocked- it was so nice to wake to the aroma of waffles cooking!! If I had a criticism of any sort it would be that I wish the coffee was a little stronger- I should have asked because I think they'd have been happy to oblige!

We'll stay again the next time we are in the South Fork area.

Very Nice Indeed

We stayed here January 12 & 13 so we could be on the South Fork side of the ski resort after getting snowed out of the pass staying on the Pagosa side over Christmas. As I booked the reservation, the staff was so helpful and kind. All my questions were patiently answered. Enjoyed the breakfast; it is always a great stay for me when they have waffles. They have coffee or cocoa avaible all the time - great after a day on the slopes. The new manager seems committed to making the sure high standards are met. She was warm and welcoming, as was her golden lab who looked just like "Marley." Will definitely try to stay there on our next ski trip to Wolf Creek. Forgot to mention my son and I enjoyed 2 of the most perfect ski days of our 20 years of skiing! Make sure you have the green chili soup with cheese, sour cream, and bacon served in a warm tortilla at the ski slope lodge. Yum - worth every penny!

  • Liked — Close to the ski slope and newer and clean.
  • Disliked — No outside entrance since we had skis, but still it was okay.
