“Friendly, comfortable and inexpensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

We have stayed at the Wolf Creek Ski Lodge now for two ski trips to Wolf Creek. It is about 30 minutes away from Wolf Creek so it is a very convenient place to stay the night before (or after) skiing. The owners/staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are also clean and comfortable and you can easily fit 4 people in a 2 bedroom room, which makes cost very affordable for a ski trip to one of the best ski resorts in the US. Breakfast is also included and although it is not the best breakfast in the world, you get hot oatmeal (microwaveable), toast, juice, coffee, cereal (no non-sugary options, though), which was plenty for us before a day of skiing.

We definitely plan on staying at this lodge for future ski trips.

We have stayed here twice now. We used to rent a cabin, but found Wolf Creek Ski Lodge and will only stay here now. The owners are wonderful, helpful, and care about their guests. The lodge is in town, convienient to eating, and skiing. We look forward to our next trip.

At first glance, this may appear to be just another hotel. After all, it is a renovated hotel. But you have to see the renovations! Each room has wood paneling, completely new drywall and paint, new bathroom fixtures, beautiful hard wood furniture, and most importantly comfy beds! We stayed in a room with an oven, microwave, fridge, sink, and coffeepot. We cooked our own dinners in the room and saved a bundle. We sat on the bed and chairs and watched TV while we enjoyed dinner with the kids. If you're more civilized, there is a table and chairs. It felt like we were staying in a condo, but we paid a hotel price. This hotel was also within 20 minutes of Wolf Creek; what a deal! I noticed most of the other hotels in South Fork were on the wrong end of town for people going to the ski area.

I also wanted to mention the owners and some of the hotel amenities. The owners are very accommodating people. We asked questions about the local area and they humored us and all of the other guests with great attitudes and thoughtful answers. They are still renovating the hotel and updating and adding on as their budget permits (the owners told me that). Evidence of this are the 2 brand new hottubs in a relaxing little outdoor alcove. My husband is a hot tub snob and he loved all of the jets. My kids and I just loved sitting outdoors in a hot tub with amazing views of the mountains. And, yes, the water was immaculately clean and hot!

The outside of the lodge and hotel rooms have been repainted and they will be putting in new doors on the rooms soon. The current ones are fine, but they are looking very dated. When you first pull in, the lodge is right off the main highway and you feel like you are stopping at a real ski lodge. The lodge is where you check in, relax on the beautiful hard wood furniture and watch TV or enjoy the fire, and eat a free continental breakfast in the morning (cereal, oatmeal, toast, hot chocolate, coffee, hot tea, and orange juice. It's not a very exciting breakfast, but it worked for us. Did I mention it was free and I didn't have to prepare it?? Mom needs a vacation, too! They also have a lot of brochures on local activities.

We usually stay in Pagosa Springs when we ski at Wolf Creek. There are some nice motels there, as well. But we will be staying at Wolf Creek Ski Lodge from now on for several reasons. First of all, I love the value of the hotel given the rooms, general atmosphere and amenities. Second, the drive to Wolf Creek seemed shorter than from Pagosa Springs. It also was a gorgeous drive from the motel to the ski area. Wait until you see all of the frozen waterfalls on the way.

Lastly, I just wanted to add a couple words about Wolf Creek ski area itself. We live about 5 hours away and we try to go every year. They always have some of the earliest heavy snowfall in Colorado so we're able to go during November. The always have cheap lift tickets, uncrowded slopes (don't tell anyone), and powder galore. They even have a snowcat that will take you to a snow bowl if the regular slopes aren't challenging enough for you. It's free of charge, too!

Room Tip: Try to book a room toward the back of the property or close to the hot tubs. It's cold out there...

We go skiing at Wolf Creek every Christmas and this was our first time staying at the Wolf Creek Ski Lodge. We will return to stay here next Christmas. The rooms are very clean and while basic, have everything you need. Bob, the owner, is super friendly and helpful and you can tell he cares about his guests and the quality of the lodge. They had discounted ski lift tickets and are pet friendly, both of which are huge pluses for us! We had to leave a night early because of an emergency and they did not hesitate to buy back our unused lift ticket vouchers and refund us for the night we weren't going to use. We in no way expected the refund for the night we weren't going to use but are grateful and the refund is a testament to their commitment to ensure the satisfaction of their guests.

As previous reviews said, the place was super clean, had comfy bedding, and the owners were very helpful. My family has skied Wolf Creek for five years running, and I was hoping this would be the lodging we could return to, but I don't think we will. The reason is that the walls are super thin - one night I could actually hear someone snoring in an adjacent room. Light sleepers, beware. Also, the hot tub I looked forward to after skiing was not too clean so we only used it once. The location is great and I really wanted to love it and return, but the quest for South Fork lodging continues.

We decided to go skiing at the last minute and contacted Bob at Wolf Creek Ski Lodge. He worked with us on getting the dates that we really wanted. We were wanting a room with a kitchenette so we could fix our own meals. Bob contacted us several times when cancelations came up and ended up getting us in a kitchenette for our entire stay.

With 4 of us in the room (parents and 2 college age kids) it was a little tight; but we made it work. The rooms are really clean and have been recently renovated. There are also 2 hot tubs that we frequented after skiing each evening.

We frequent South Fork each summer and have stayed at a variety of places, we are planning on staying at Wolf Creek Ski Lodge this summer.

Room Tip: I am 6ft 7in so the beds were a little short; but this happens everywhere!!! If there are only two...

This is a great place to stay. Small room but clean as can be! The bed and especially pillows were extremely comfortable, although an extra pillow would have been nice. Bob the owner made the stay extremely pleasant! Would love to stay here again if I return to south fork.
