5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Wildwood was a such a pleasant surprise. Had read a few reviews about opening issues and was a bit wary but they have clearly worked most of them out. Traveled with our two kids ages 9 and 12 and they said it was "the most fun hotel we have ever been to." We had dinner in the lobby living room and played a marathon of board games including Pictionary and Monopoly which are all available in cubbies throughout the lobby.
After dinner the kids took off for "The Arcave" which has a bunch of retro arcade games including Pac Man, Pinball Machines, and Air hockey. We were told that they are expanding the game offerings to include ping-pong and more in an even larger space. The game-a-thon was followed by a trip out to hot tub before they collapsed in bed.
Nice to have a place for the kids to play right on property (close enough so we could check on them from time to time) while the grown ups got to hang in the New Belgium bar for a couple of drinks.
Our room was warm and cozy and plenty of hot water for showers in the morning. Housekeepers were on the job very early each morning.
We fueled up in the morning with a great pancake breakfast (after a morning session in the Arcave) and then walked right out to the slopes. The location absolutely can't be beat. The weather couldn't have been better and the snow conditions were soft and creamy.
The decor is really fun. Lots of cool contemporary art and unexpected quirky touches throughout the property.
Got an early morning cardio blast in their workout room which is small but has floor to ceiling windows that look out at the pool. Also took advantage of the spa for a fantastic massage after skiing--just next door at the Westin--a 'sister" property and had a really nice dinner at the Westin's restaurant, Snowmass Kitchen.
All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly and helpful, especially, Sly at the front desk.
Nice crowd staying at the property. Met some folks from Germany and Australia--who seemed equally pleased with the property.

Great spot for families with kids who want to be close to the slopes...We'll definitely be back.

Overall, I loved my stay at the Wildwood. The hotel and its staff are still experiencing some growing pains as they've just re-opened, but they seem to be on the right trajectory. The location was great – ski slopes are just across the street. My room was clean, and except for the lighting (see below), it appeared to be thoughtfully planned out with a ton of storage available. I personally like boutique-style hotel rooms with bright colors, but I know many people are turned off by this type of decor. My room faced the pool area, which could be loud, so you might want to ask for a room away from there; however, I never heard anyone out there late at night.

My biggest complaint with my room would be the location of light switches. The switch at the entry of my room controlled the refrigerator (totally bizarre). When it didn't seem to control any lights, I switched it off, which meant that my beverages were warm in the morning. The switches that controlled the lights were all located a distance from the front door, so you would have to stumble across a dark room upon arriving/leaving, which was especially frustrating if you don't want to track your dirty, wet, snowy boots across the room. Unlike other reviewers, my room was stocked with a hair dryer, basic toiletries and sufficient towels. I had very hot water whenever I needed it for showers and consistent heat in the rooms. That said, they did have someone on the roof working on the heating system when I first arrived– so hopefully the room heating problem has been corrected. Also, I stayed on the fourth floor of the Green Bldg. and it was serviced by an elevator.

Thanks for your comments and feedback. We have been working hard to understand and rectify some of the construction kinks and getting the service delivery more honed every day we are open. We have great, friendly staff at Wildwood and we are getting the service delivery details dialed. We appreciate your feedback, so we can focus on ways to make our guest experience exceptional. Please come back to see us again sometime soon. We appreciate your business. Have a great ski season!

Just got back from awesome ski vacation at Wildwood Snowmass! There are definitely some glitches, but nothing out of the ordinary for a hotel that has just opened. The service and amenities, far surpass what you expect with this room rate and location!!

Anyone who has stayed at Wildwood last year would not believe how much it has changed since then. Super cozy double sided fireplace, with board games and lounge seating, old ski movies projected on the wall...Even large pillows with rubber on one side so your laptop doesn't slip off!

The bar is cool too, with 10 New Belgium Beers on tap and killer nachos.
The guest rooms are small, but cozy, and never feel full. I had 7 people hanging out in my room and everyone had a seat. Really thoughtful storage too, with cubbies for wet boots and ski gear, and trundle drawers under bed for luggage. Love the peg board, DIY, furniture and power strips installed in bedside table, so you dont need to unplug alarm clock just to charge your phone! There is even a survival book called Wildwood Wisdom next to bed instead of the bible... This place has thought of everything!

We have been going to the Wildwood annually since 1997 and it definitely needed updating as in all that time, there have been no updates- until summer 2012. We expected some of the cumbersome 1970s design of this building would be fixed and updated. This did not happen except for one set of steps by the front door. Now, instead, of old worn decor we have tacky and retro college dorm - but the prices are not. The front desk staff advised that this was now the "no frills" model and we would agree. We had to ask for everything from hair dryer to tissues to the bathrobes for the outdoor winter hot tub (all of which had always been in the rooms). The location for this facility is ideal - truly steps away from the slopes and the village. It has been the most affordable for my family of 4 (sometimes 5). So we expected the renovations to add improvements that were sorely needed and we would pay. But all we see is tacky paint and downgraded front desk service. In the past there was a great steak house that offered an amazing breakfast and now is gone. In its place is a poorly thought out "game" room area that we never saw anyone using. just wasted space. Management really did not think this one through.

Room Tip: we had a suite and that helped in terms of the size of the room. It seems they are trying to go for...

Thank you for visiting the new Wildwood Snowmass and giving us your feedback on the renovation that took place at the property this past summer. I'm sorry to hear there were service issues during your stay. We will definitely review your feedback with the service team and make sure changes are made to provide efficient service in the future. We appreciate your feedback on that.

Without a doubt this is a new Wildwood, with a unique design. The new owners and designers were excited about the opportunity to create a new, energetic facility with a fun vibe that Snowmass has not had available in the recent years. As you mentioned the major structural changes were to the lobby, the common areas, the pool and hot tubs and the garden area between the buildings. Because of the physical limitations we were not able to change the size or layout of the sleeping rooms, but we did replace all furniture, fixtures, floor coverings, paint and and bedding to create a new comfortable environment.

With the introduction of The Bar at Wildwood, which was collaborated with New Belgium Brewery, this outlet became our new 3 meal restaurant and the single meal dining room upstairs was closed. The Bar has been popular with many of our locals and guests alike. As you mentioned the space on the upper level is not completely finished yet, but we will work hard to create a fun and functional space for our guests in that area moving forward as well.

Thank you again for your feedback. We are working hard to work out the opening kinks in this new property and we will use your feedback to make Wildwood the best facility we can moving forward. Please come back to see how we do in the future or visit us in Wildwood's sister property, The Westin Snowmass Resort located right next door. Have a great ski season!

We rented two room at the Wildwood Snowmass over the Christmas/New Years holiday. This hotel is in a great location just steps from the slops and steps from the Snowmass Mall. However, this hotel has lots of problems despite just having opened and been through an extensive renovation. The lobby/bar area was pretty nice and the lunch was pretty good. The breakfast was awful. This is an outdoor entry hotel. The doors had about an inch gap letting in the cold wind and noise (people walking by your room were very loud). The elevator was old, antiquated, slow, and only goes up to the 3rd floor. You are left on your own to carry your luggage up the last flight of outdoor stairs. Our rooms (plus by brother's rooms) did not have hot water for 2 days. The heating was also out so they brought space heaters in to heat several of the rooms (this, of course, was very uncomfortable since it did not regulate the heat). Housekeeping service was like playing the lottery. Our rooms did not get service for several days. When you did get service, it showed up at 5 PM just as you are showering (luke warm to cold) and getting ready for dinner. We had two adults and two children in our room. The housekeeping staff only left two towels. We called down multiple times and multiple days for additional towels to no avail. Rooms were pretty small as well. I am not sure where they took the pictures of the rooms that are on the web site, but they looked like nothing we had (between myself and my brother, we had 4 rooms between us). The workout facility had not yet been renovated so they sent you to the Westin.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room on the 4th floor, make sure you are not near the elevator. Better yet, stay...

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We have reviewed your comments with the service team and have rectified the situation. We apologize for the system issues when you were in house. We implemented door frame upgrades immediately and made repairs to the boiler system that regulates the heat and the hot water for the property. We hope you will give us another opportunity to be your hosts in the future at either Wildwood Snowmass or The Westin Snowmass Resort. Rest assured the experience will be far better than it was during this stay. If you would like to discuss your visit with me personally, please don't hesitate to call me at 970-923-8210. - Didnt have requested room upon check-in. Wanted king + rollaway. Front desk couldn't figure it out for 90 min and I finally had to accept two doubles.

- New renovation is average at best. Hardly the level of quality that Starwood claims. I sincerely wonder if anyone at Starwood has seen this place. Pretty much Days Inn quality of accommodations and amenities.

- Did not have maid service first two days of visit. I called the front desk to complain each day, and was told the room would be cleaned. No one showed up. I don't care how busy the place is, you staff up for your high season. Unbelievable that we couldn't get fresh linens or towels in 48 hours.

- In general, customer service was badly lacking. Every time we called the front desk, we got hems and haws on most requests. It was clearly staffed by inexperienced folks with little to no experience in running a facility of this sort. They seemed in over their head. If I was Starwood, I would be very concerned about associating this hotel and service experience with my brand.

I love this place. The rooms have been updated in a very cool, relevant way. They're retro hip and setup with all of the amenities for an awesome ski trip- great flat screen TV, free wifi, fantastic Starwood bed, in room cubbies and ski rack, in-room coffee, in-room fridge, and lots of storage space. Nothing over-the-top fancy, just a very cool, very clean room, with a fantastic look and feel.

The hotel is right on the slopes and has a walkaway to the Snowmass Village for restaurants, shops, etc. Even though the hotel has a very slick pool scene and hot tubs, you're linked to the Westin, so if you're looking for fine dining or a trip to the spa, you've got that right at your fingertips.

My favorite part about this hotel is the lobby and communal space. The lobby has an excellent bar and restaurant and attracts a great mix of locals, young travelers, and families in the evenings. People sit around the fire playing board games, drinking beers, and eating wings. They also have a great rec room for kids to play in, meetings, and other needs. I got a quick look into the fitness center, next tot the pool and it seems state-of-the art. But frankly, who cares. If you need to use a fitness room while you're in the Rockies with all of the skiing, hiking, and other great things to do outdoors, you're nuts.

Don't stay at the Wildwood Lodge if you're looking for the utmost in luxury service or fancy rooms- the Westin is just next door. Go to the Wildwood if you're looking for a reliable, fun, hip, social, high quaity ski-on-ski-off experience at a great value.
