“Some things could improve...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

The grounds are absolutely beautiful from the aspect of a planned, landscape; but when considering the real reason to go to the San Juan Mountains -- for their absolute beauty in all their openness, then one does not get that feeling when inside a fence. With just a limited view of this beautiful scenery from the seated or standing places in the resort, it was a great disappointment. The seating that is provided either in the pools or the seating outside is rough and uncomfortable with no area for reclining, it made truly relaxing very difficult.

It's a very different experience from my one other co experience in SXM.

“Should Not Be Missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2011

Five of us went for an evening in winter. Incredible night sky !! Don’t stress about clothing optional … some were naked, others in bathing suits. Not an issue at all. Several different ‘pools’ .. the big one is many temps so a group can be happy with each finding their own comfort level. Close at 10 PM and they move you out quickly. If you want to have overnight access, then you must rent a room or a campsite.

“Pleasantly Surprised!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2010

We stayed at the Hot Springs Inn in Ouray, so we thought about going to the Hot Springs pool a few buildings away. But, luckily, my boyfriend asked at the front desk about other hot springs options. Orvis Hot Springs was identified as a second option. It is clothing optional in most of the "ponds," and has a very comfortable, adult atmosphere. The landscaping is beautiful. We are a Gay couple, and the atmosphere was very accepting (and there were some other gay singles and couples as well). The place was not creepy, but very classy and non-threatening. My boyfriend kept his clothes on for the first hour or so, but felt so relaxed after that that he took advantage of the clothing optional aspect as well. At night, we were able to see so many stars, the milky way, and even several "shooting stars." We arrived in weird moods, and left very relaxed and refreshed. Would definitely recommend if you are an adult.

OVERALL OPINION: Orvis is a very special place, a place where one can get naked, sit in soothing hot water, meet mellow people and be at peace with the world. The gardens are Zen in nature, very serene and peaceful. The location in the San Juan mountains is convenient but remote enough to feel like a getaway to a distant land. The lodge rooms are not air conditioned and this was a problem on one of the hottest weekends in recent memory. But, that being said, the overall facility, with several spring-fed pools, and the open minded nature of the place, with clothing only an option, just cannot be beat.

FOOD QUALITY: No food is served at Orvis but a very nice kitchen facility is available to guests to prepare their own food.

SERVICE: The staff are "Colorado friendly," meaning very laid back, mellow and communicative. They make any visit, whether a day soak or an overnight, very special.

BOTTOM LINE: I have been to Orvis for an hour and for overnight stays. I have camped there and I have stayed in the lodge. Of all the places I have ever been in more than 150 countries, this simple hot springs resort is among my top five destinations. Give it a try and you will be hooked for life.

“Restful and relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2010

We found Orvis while searching for a place to stop on our way from Longmont to Portland. We spent the night in the Americana room. Nice room, nice facility and nice people. Fabulous soaking in the pools.
