“Perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

I really love this hotel. I stayed here for four nights while on business in Telluride. The remodeled rooms and common areas were clean and aesthetically pleasing. Hayes, the owner was very sweet and helpful, as was the entire staff. The rates were reasonable, especially given the proximity to a major resort. The restaurant and bar were very good. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Angler because we had an 8 AM appointment in Telluride, and the hotels there are expensive. The Angler provided excellent value. It is about 20 min from Telluride, so it's an easy drive. The room was very well set up and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was a great start to the day. It was perfect for our purposes!

My son family and myself stayed there for 4 nights. It is a very comfortable place and we were very happy to have a special machine for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, even hot apple cider in the hallway.. Coming home from skiing it is a special treat. Also we got much better meals in their restaurants for the same price as in the town of Telleruide. It is about a 12 mile drive from the town and ski are but well worth it.

Room Tip: One on the ground floor

After lots of online searching about what hotel to stay in, I accidentally came across The Angler Inn. Not well advertised but I'm glad I found it! It was significantly more affordable than staying in town & I loved that it was a little bit away from Telluride. Not too far, but a good enough distance away from the hustle and bustle. Telluride was a bit too... cramped feeling for me so this was perfect. The hotel is well kept & staff is courteous. We booked the jacuzzi king and it was very spacious and had a nice rustic feel to it. It is a more laid back property and it's pet friendly (very clean too). My only issue is that you can't control the temperature of your room. Otherwise, it was a perfect choice. We ate in the restaurant two nights in a row as the first night, service was excellent and so was the food. The second night, the food was great but service was slow (it was also a busy night for them).

Room Tip: Book a top room. On the bottom floor, you can hear the water running when someone in the room above...

We stopped here after a long day of riding, and it was just what we needed! The rooms were beautiful, the beds comfortable, and the food and customer service outstanding! A great retreat in the Rockies.

Heading to Telluride I was detoured by a rain storm and mud slide that closed the road. Headed back down the road to a place that caught my eye a little earlier. I thought I would grab a bite and decided upon walking in to grab a room. The clerk (may have been one of the owners) was extremely helpful and I let her pick a room (though there was a slightly higher charge for a room with 2 queen beds I thought odd). No king rooms left. I was in no position to be picky. No AARP discount yet, but the room was just what I needed. Everything was clean and fresh, showing limited signs of wear. It looked out onto the enclosed yard and I note in the morning some dogs were playing out there, so it may be a pet friendly place. A little disruption in the television signal because of the storm also played with the internet signal at times.

Had dinner on-site too. It was great. Nice selection of well prepared items and good choice of several craft beers on tap. Waitstaff was a little overwhelmed by the crowds that came in from the road closure, but they handled the glut of business well. Morning complimentary breakfast was nice touch too!

The Angler Inn has very nice rooms at half the price of Telluride, if you don’t mind a 13 mile drive. Nice furniture, comfy beds with good linens, very nice bathrooms, toiletries worth stealing. There are only 14 rooms, and those on the ground floor have little patios. It is attached to the very good restaurant of the same name. It recently reopened under new ownership. Because there are so few rooms, the hotel desk is open limited hours, but if the restaurant is open, Ian (the owner) will set you up with a room. Having such a likeable, competent owner on the premises makes a big difference. The restaurant wasn’t open for breakfast, and breakfast wasn’t included in the price, but the rooms were such a bargain you could have truffles and caviar with your eggs in Telluride and still come out money ahead.
