“Davao Oriental's Secret Treasure, Better than Bali!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Only a 3-hours drive from Davao City via the Scenic Maharlika Highway, Dahican Beach is indeed a hidden gem. The roads to Mati, Davao Oriental are unbelievably good - even better than those in Davao City. If only local leaders encourage investors to develop the area, and ensure the beauty of the town is preserved, it would surely be a favorite destination. Leaders should start maximizing the potential of our beautiful destinations. The beach is definitely more beautiful than Bali!

“great for surfers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

This is the pride of South Min for surfing and other water extreme adventures. Located in Mati, Davao Oriental, and may be reached by bus or private vehicle. However, there are only few resorts and restaurants nearby. Its better to include the itinerary other beaches just few kilometers away and even the island hopping in Waniban..

“Not for young children. Beach drops away into deep water quite fast. Good for surfing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Accommodation quite basic. You need to stay in Mati. Best hotel there I found was the one at the end of the boardwalk on the waterfront. A bit old but good air con, bed and a large room. Plenty of strong hot water.

“Dahican Beach: Davao’s Pacific Hideaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

Situated in eastern part of Davao region lies a secluded beach attraction, Dahican Beach is one of my personal favorite, its 3 hours away from Davao City to Mati City, from the city proper estimated travel time is around 10-15 minutes and you need take or hire a tricycle since the beach is pretty isolated, the place is underdevelop which is a good thing because you can the enjoy the beach minus the crowded ambiance, there are few cozy resorts offering bed & breakfast where rates are reasonable and pocket-friendly, and if you are adventurous and middle-of-the-road type of traveller there is one part of the beach where you are allowed to put up your tent and camp out. Apart from swimming, skimboarding is one of the activities you can do in Dahican, the other is surfing which is seasonal, there are also talented local surfers and skimboarders who offers crash course in such activities. Dahican beach is indeed a summer paradise where leisure seemed to communed with nature.

“Skim and Surf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Dahican Beach is one of my favorite "escape" places.

It's located 3-4 hours from Davao City. From Mati City, it's a 15 minute motorcycle ride. There's not much in terms of hotel choices, but if you're not afraid of roughing it, you can put up a tent, or sleep in a hammock at the Amihan headquarters where the local skim boarders and surfers reside. Best thing to do is bum around the beach or... *drum rolls* skim and surf as the review title goes.

As for me, I like going there to watch the sunrise and enjoy the waves. And it's always exciting to watch the local kids do their training early in the morning. You can ask them for some skim boarding or surfing lessons if you want. Just a bit of warning though, if you're squirmish about rest rooms, best stay in hotels. I personally prefer camping at Amihan, but the rest rooms need a lot of work done. I'm sure the other hotels around the area have restaurants, but at Amihan, you either get your food from the city center beforehand or buy seafood when available from the locals.

If you're in Davao for only a few days, there's no need to go to Mati though. Best enjoy the beaches in Samal. But if you have more time and you're looking for an adventure, suggest you give this place a try. Best time to go is in October for the local festival. They have skim boarding competitions at this time which I hear is very exciting to watch.

Overall, it's a gem of place and I'll be coming back over and over again!

P.S. Turtle Hatching! Pawikan's lay eggs around the area and there's a nursery at the Amihan HQ where you can watch turtle eggs hatching!
