“Not good”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The place used to be the The Villa, then it was something else, and now it's back to The Villa.
We always liked the location and fine dining experience of the original restaurant.
So, we decided to give the "new" place a try.

First, Service. Excellent!
Our primary server used to work next door at the B&E (now something else as well).
That restaurant was also a fine dining format. She obviously brought those skills with her.
We were well attended to by her and the other staff.

2nd, Food. No so good.
We all had different meals.
Presentation was good but all of them were over seasoned/WAY too salty!
Also, the chef seems to be a little heavy handed with the garlic. Too much, on everything.
We had dinner salads with the creamy parmesan dressing. They were over dressed, drenched in the dressing. And again, too much garlic.
Prep timing was a little off. One meal was hot while the other two appeared to have been sitting for a bit while waiting to complete the other.

In addition to the inevitable "horse breath" from the garlic, we all had stomach/intestinal discomfort soon after leaving the restaurant. Burping, gassey type discomfort.
We were affected throughout the night, and the next morning, as a matter of fact.

We don't plan on going back any time soon. And I wouldn't recommend The Villa at this time.
There are many other fine dining establishments in the area that would be a better choice.

“Excellent Food and Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Arrived with another couple. All the entrees were excellent, however we did not order dessert. We had veal, egg plant, and chicken marsala. And the bread was awesome too.

“Service was superb and everything we ordered was excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Each of us ordered a different meal and the salad, soup, scallops and lobster capellini were well flavored and freshly made. I like hot food and found the taste to be just fine!

“We went just because FoodieClicks hated it.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

First of all the title says it all. When someone rips a place, I normally find the review entertaining and normally baseless. That was certainly the case here.

Long story short, on April 12th, we had a friend staying in Monument and we rarely leave the Castle Rock area and drive south for restaurants. The restaurant was exactly how I expected it with the faux painting, carpeting, etc. The other reviewers painted a good picture of what I should expect.

We found the service to be fine (sorry, I cannot remember the server's name as it was the guy that moved here from Charlotte and lived in Larkspur), The food was good and have no complaints. I had the scallops/pasta, DW had the salmon and I cannot recall what friend had (maybe the filet?) but she enjoyed the meal. Overall it was a good evening with friends, good food and wine.

I was tempted to ask for the owner just to reinforce her comments regarding her reply to the self proclaimed food critic but opted not to bother her. The interior is a bit dated but that's OK as I totally understand how restaurants work as two good friends and son are in the business. We did not have reservations and did not need them.

I would not hesitate going back and will when we venture south (I know, it's not that far). Have a great day all. I travel a lot on business and eating out is a pretty non-event to me so I would probably rate the restaurant a bit higher if I were the more typical diner. Give the place a shot and I would guess you would not be disappointed at the least. Just don't go in pretending to be a food critic :).

Have a great day all.

blindrid,
We appreciate your review! Coming down from Castlerock is a nice drive (usually) and we are glad you made the trip.

We are also glad you enjoyed your evening. We try to make all of our guests feel comfortable and leave happy.

We are in the midst of updating our décor... wood tables, restroom updates, etc. We are now working on upgrading our deck and yard for outdoor seating. We hope you will be pleasantly surprised next time you visit.

Again, thanks for coming and we look forward to serving you!
