Owner description: While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

“Cat lovers winery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2011

This winery is the most laid back of all. When we walked in the door, one of their siamese cats was lounging on the counter. She was friendly and will let you pet her. The wine tasting was held outside in the back where it is surronded by grape vines. There are nice chairs to sit in while you sip on your wine. I enjoyed the Gewurtzaminer and the Riesling. They also had a cherry wine which they mixed in with lemonade that was a great summer drink. They also served the cherry wine in a chocolate rimmed glass which tasted just like chocolate covered cherries.

“Unpretentious atmosphere, delicious wine!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2010

I had been to Palisade to wine taste a couple of times and enjoyed the experience but never fell in love with any of the wineries. A friend highly recommended Carlson Vineyards so we stopped in. I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and beautiful views of the Grand Mesa and Bookcliffs. The Riesling is the best in the state and would compete with any in the US. The Gewurztraminer is also fantastic. The reds tend to be a little sweet for my taste and I am not a fan of the other fruit wines (e.g. cherry and plum). Parker Carlson is also very enjoyable and is a wealth of knowledge. He has done a fantastic job of creating a unique Colorado wine tasting experience.

“Off the beaten path, but worth finding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2009

Parker and wife Mary operate the best local winery in Palisade. They are very humble people despite the fact that Parker took the world cup a couple of years ago for his outstanding Riesling! The premises are like an extension of their living room; very cozy and rustic. Oh, I can't fortget to mention the fabulous Cherry wine that is served with a Enstrom Chocolate rim...it is the best chocolate cherry cordial experience ever! There is a wine for every palate including dry reds to dessert. Everything they make is quality and Parker takes great pride in his product. THIS IS A DESTINATION YOU CANNOT MISS! (and NO, I am not a relative, just an aquaintance:-)
