We went to Pagosa for our honeymoon in September, 2008. The weather was perfect and the area was beautiful!! The leaves starting to change made for a great bike ride one day. The people were very friendly as well.
We spent one afternoon/evening at The Springs soaking in their hot springs. It was nice, but very expensive for a soak in water. It did help with the sore muscles though.
There were lots of great places to eat. Bear Creek Saloon & Grill was our favorite. Another one we enjoyed was Buffalo Inn(which is on the west side of town). They had GREAT green chili, but skip that place for a steak.
We enjoyed our trip greatly. One thing we wish we would have known was that the town closes down early. There was one bar that was open after 10 or 11pm, Pagosa Bar and we don't recommend it. My husband is a bartender, so our lifestyle runs late at night normally. It was nice to be back in our room and sleeping early for a change.

Pagosa Springs a beautiful mountain town and is everything you would expect from one. From the beautiful hiking trails, lakes and outdoor activities to the wonderful little downtown setting. Me and my son travel up there every summer, and at times during the winter. While there we ate at serval restaurants, and I had the pleasure of experiencing the night life there :). Lots of karaoke at Bear Creek! While there, I urge you to check out the numerous hiking trails throughout Pagosa Springs including Treasure Falls with a picturesque waterfall falling hundreds of feet. This year instead of staying in the one of the hotels in Pagosa we opted to try a vacation rental. When researching all the options I found that Sunetha Property Management was the most cost efficient choice while looking up packages. I got a 2 bedroom condo in town for 5 nights and received a night for free; while also getting passes to the Pagosa Hot Springs and discounts on a round of golf! The Condo was beautiful and centrally located for easy access to downtown shopping and restaurants. I highly reccomend this beautiful town and the hospitality we received from Sunetha was unforgettable. Overall our vacation was a dream come true. To my 6 year old son who enjoys hiking, fishing, and searching for the early morning deer, to myself who enjoys sitting out on the porch with a bottle of wine looking at the beautiful mountain range in the distance; there is something in Pagosa Springs for everyone.

Awesome views, great hot springs, however be prepared for the altitude!
We got there on a Friday and asked some locals where there was live music. That night we went there and had a great time drinking, singing and dancing. The next day we could barely move!! Then we found out you really need to give yourself a couple of days to adjust before doing any strenuous activities.
My wife was sick for 3 days!
Once we got adjusted, we had a great time. Rented a Harley in Durango and rode up to Silverton and back. It's amazing how clear the air is there and how far you can see.

Excellent menu. Excellent food. Impeccable service. If you are from a larger city, you will understand that the prices are reasonable at JJ's. We were told it was expensive, but were pleasantly surprised.

“A hidden gem”

Pagosa Springs

Jul 21, 2007

Our stay was over July 4th week and this little town was bustling! If you have ever seen "Doc Hollywood" movie this town has a small town feel like that! We loved that the San Juan River cuts right through town. During the day locals and visitors alike were jumping in inner tubes and floating down the river, not minding the cold water and laughing all the way! An old timey carnival was set up across the river and the little downtown was bustling with sight seers. July 4th morning was just like out of the movies. Town folk and visitors lining the Main St. by 9:00 am with anything they could find to sit on for the towns annual July 4th Parade. We couldn't help but enjoy the view out the window of the well known local diner, The Rose, eating omelettes the size of Texas. I think the whole town was there anxiously awaiting their towns patriotic event. It moved us realizing most places don't have this closeness to their neighbors like these people do. Something is to be said about this laid back way of life. No need to get in a hurry; the locals call it "Pagosa time!" There are many good restaraunts surprisingly in this town. Our favorite was The Alley House Grille. They had mouthwatering steaks and fine seafood. The food presentation was wonderful. A must on a visit into Pagosa. Also recommend JJ's Riverwalk Restaraunt ; you can dine outside by the San Juan River in the summer- we enjoyed watching a fly fisherman as we ate. There are tons of jeep, hike and bike trails in the area. You won't be bored if you are an outdoorsman. Best car ride: we loved the awe inspiring views out the windshield as we drove north down Piedra Rd. Great family hike where the pavement changes to dirt; Piedra Trailhead. Don't stop there though. Our favorite car trip was to Williams Lake! From Hwy 160 , head north on Piedra Rd. After about 7 miles, it becomes 30 miles of postcard beauty!!! The scenery is unbelievable. You can also stop and hike another easy trail to Piedra Falls on the way to the lake. Kids will love this trail! Keep a fishing pole and a cooler at all times in your car. After a picnic by the lake, we fished and had tons of fun ATVing the afternoon in this area! Great fishing in the many lakes around Pagosa Springs. Plan your days well and this town offers much outdoor beauty and recreation for the entire family. We loved it so much we will go back many times again! It is truly a hidden gem. If you like small towns and friendly folks, visit Pagosa Springs while in Southwest Colorado!
