“Highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

I stumbled upon this place after getting stuck in a horrific thunder storm with my dog.

The rooms are spotless as well as the grounds. I'm a clean freak and I even considered taking a bath. Although, when there's hot tubs under the blanket of stars...who needs a bath!

They have me a special blanket for my dog. When it cleared up we went for a small hike on the trail behind the cabins. Movies were free of charge to rent. It would be a superb place to stay for multiple days. There were all sorts of games to play, catch and release pond, tether ball, swings, fire pit, sauna. Oh my goodness I just lived this place and it was reasonably priced.

Lynn in the front office was extremely patient with me as I couldn't decide whether to spend my money (it is the end of my camping trip and I wasn't planning on staying in a hotel). She also greeted my dog warmly and gave me a recipe to make at home to try and help his dander and stomach. She was really friendly and professional.

I could go on, but instead I'll say...just stay there. I hope to come back in the winter!

We stayed for one night on a short road trip between Denver and Grand canyon. The hotel is right beside the road and felt a little exposed. However the welcome was very warm and we had a good room on the upper floor. Every thing required was supplied. There are cabins/units at the back of the property that would be more private. The bed was comfortable. The small bathroom was neat and clean, but the layout seemed a little unusual as you walked past a sink and wet area at the back of the bedroom to get to the shower and toilet - the areas didn't seem well defined.
Good wifi was available. Breakfast was a standard buffet with some hot choices. When we stayed there was a large family group staying so the breakfast area and spas were busy.
Note that the lodge is a little out of town so you will have to drive in to Pagosa Springs for a meal.
At this stage Australia won the horse shoe throwing competition against the USA. Who's up for the challenge!

Room Tip: Some rooms are up stairs. If you have a problem carrying your luggage up stairs as for a ground floo...

John and I deeply needed a quick and restful get away from Santa Fe. I called, spoke to the owner and booked a room as they were out of cabins--we had never been to PS before. Guess what? 30 children under 10! A massive running up and down the stairway--which was right by our room, the basketball hoop going right by our room until 10 at night. Pounding on the floor above. No sleep or privacy for us at all. If I had simply booked this online without personal contact, I guess I would have just felt stupid for not calling, but I DID CALL and not a word about this massive family reunion and its impact on our stay. Shame on you!

Room Tip: Ask who is there. Don't expect owners to care about anything but filling up their place.

We deeply regret you did not have the experience you desired while staying with us. We recveived your call on the last day of a small family reunion which had booked the cabins a year in advance. All but 3 of our rooms had also been booked well in advance by other travelers.

We wanted to put you in an upstairs room, which is generally quieter, but you did request our only downstairs room, which was by the staircase and near our green belt area where children often play.

Pagosa Springs is a delightful town and a great place for a quiet getaway, depending on the time of year. If you decide to come on the spur of the moment, during the busy summer, you may indeed be here during a family reunion or some kind of special event, wherever you stay.

Always let us know when you book, if there are special requirements or expectations so we can work with you. We always want our guests to have a wonderful experience and try very hard to make that happen. We are sorry that didn't happen for you this time, but hope we can make it up to you in a future visit,.

What a lovely place! Setting is beautiful; staff is warm, friendly, and helpful; rooms are clean and cozy with fridge and microwave, and if you like hot tubs, there are three plus a sauna. Complimentary breakfast is not great but better than we are accustomed to in chain motels. Grounds include picnic area with BBQ grills. Great for families!

Room Tip: Call in advance since this is a fairly small motel. "Restaurant" refers to breakfast--the...

Beautiful setting for this refurbished motel/lodge just East of Pagosa Springs. We visited when there was a forest fire burning probably 40 miles away, and were notified in the lobby as we arrived that the fire was not burning in our direction, therefore not an immediate concern. The mid June flowers were gorgeous and we enjoyed the hot tub after dinner in town. The room and small bathroom ( sink is in bedroom) is very pleasant and beautifully kept. Breakfast is very good and served in an attractively decorated area. The scrambled eggs seemed homemade. The whole lodge is just very tastefully done and the staff could not be nicer.

The owners of this motel greeted us as we arrived by bicycle for Ride the Rockies. They went out of their way to help us out. The flowers at this motel are amazing! The rooms were very clean and TV was new. I loved the front porch. We ordered take out from a pizza place that tasted great! Fantastic breakfast the next morning which they opened up early for us! I love how this place is out in the country, near Wolf Creek Pass. I would definitely stay here next time I am in Pagosa Springs.

Once again stayed at the High Country Lodge and once again had a grea experience. We always stay in a cabin and this time stayed in the 'Bunkhouse'. Clean & comfortable cabin with everything you need for a comfortable stay. This year they did have the tubing hill which was kind of a pain to get around as it was right outside our cabin, but the kiddos went on it & loved it so won't complain too much. Breakfast was great as usual - LOTS of choices! Last thing - we got a lot of snow while we were there, and they didn't seem to be as quick to clear driveways for the cabins as they have been in the past. Didn't keep us from being able to get in & out fairly easily though.

All in all - small concerns compared to the value, location and consistent quality of the cabins. We go to Pagosa to ski every year and really wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Maybe next year we'll even visit during the summer:)
