“Eat somewhere, anywhere else.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Eating at the Plaza Grille was one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life.

There was one server and four occupied tables (one had a party of eight; there were five in my party).

There was nobody bussing tables, and there were three tables that still had dirty dishes on them. There were about five people wandering around behind the counter/in the kitchen, chatting, one of them cooking, none of them helping the server who was clearly overwhelmed. When I asked who they were, she said they were other servers waiting to find out if they would be working that evening.

We waited 10 minutes to order our drinks, then it was another 15 minutes before we could order food. They were out of the first three things I wanted, including their fried jalapenos, which they claim to be their specialty. I ordered a plaza salad, which, according to the menu, had nearly the same ingredients as a chef salad, but when I got it, there was only lettuce, mushrooms and tomato.

We got our food 20 minutes after we ordered. The teenage boy in my group liked the chicken fried steak, everyone else didn't like what they got (bowl of green chile, portabella mushroom sandwich, plaza salads.) We had seen the cook visit the party of eight twice to ask them how everything was. He never asked us.

Here is why we will never go back: while we were eating the server was running around, answering the phone, running the cash register, bringing refills to customers, etc,... There was a couple hanging out behind the counter, then they went out to the patio and sat down. I asked our server if they were the owners, she said "yes." She apologized on their behalf "They are planning a new menu, that's why we were out of so much today."

And during our entire meal we had to endure really loud, really bad top-40 radio.

Dear owners of the Plaza Grille: When you are in your restaurant, and there are un-bussed tables and you have one server working like crazy and a bunch of people hanging around in the back of your restaurant, you need to get to work! Get those tables bussed, make sure your customers are being taken care of, find out why your employees are just hanging around and not helping. After that, you get to go sit down and plan your new menu. And, I sincerely hope that someday, your very hard working and kind hearted server gets a job at a restaurant run by professionals. You don't deserve her. You don't deserve to own a restaurant.

“Not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Our meal here was just okay. It was not great but there was nothing foul about it. It just wasn't really good food. The service was nice. The restaurant interior seems a bit drab. I would try elsewhere next time.

“Too much breading”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This was our last dinner before we left Pagosa. The happy hour drinks and appetizer were OK but my fish and chips were overly breaded. When they first came out they were huge, you only got 2 pieces. But after eating them for a while you realized the beer batter was so thick you wanted to stop eating.

“Maybe they'll get better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We had been to this restaurant a year ago for Sunday brunch and tried to do so again only to learn that they no longer serve it and have changed their hours to open much later. Today we went there for lunch and learned that the restaurant had been sold a week ago and that the former chef (an alumna of Gordon Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen show) was also gone. I tried the mahi taco and found the meat, the pico de gallo, and the flour tortillas to be dry. The result was not very tasty or appetizing. This place used to be good, and it's possible that once the new owners settle in it will be again. Right now it's not.

“Cute Place/Food Poor-Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Went for lunch, waited for 40 minutes for food to arrive. The sandwich was ice cold when it arrived. I told the waiter that the food was cold, and it did not seem that she cared. Very overpriced for lunch.
