“More bang for your buck”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We have been hiking in the Ouray, CO area for 23 years. We were staying at "higher end" hotel but didn't feel that we were getting what we paid for..no improvements, just higher prices. We switched to BWP Twin Peaks Lodge & Hot Springs. Great amenities at the hotel and the service was exceptional. They serve a "full" breakfast each morning (individualized omelettes, etc.). More than the regular powdered eggs, etc. Hot Springs tub was nice for adults only, but also had a pool for the kids. Convenient location. Best of all the owner, manager and staff were exceptional. It felt like we counted and they wanted us to return, whereas the other hotel we stayed at didn't even recognize our names after 22 years!! Wish we would have switched 20 years ago! They also do jeep rentals.

Room Tip: ask for the newer wing of the building.

We spent one night at the Best Western in Ouray during a Colorado vacation. We were looking to rent a jeep during our stay and go 4-wheeling in Yankee Boy Basin. The Best Western had jeeps for rent right on site and I was able to arrange the jeep and the room at the same time. The setting is quaint and attractive. Ouray is such a beautiful little town that any view is good, but it was especially so at the Best Western, with mountains rising in every direction around us. The rooms were nice - clean but basic and with very comfortable beds. The highlights were the pool and hot tub, heated by natural hot springs and so warm and comforting after a long day riding in the jeep! We enjoyed relaxing and chatting with other guests under the starry night. Breakfast the next morning was an incredible surprise - we were greeted at the door by the chef and invited to partake in cooked to order omelettes, applewood smoked bacon, biscuits and gravy and wonderfully fresh fruit and waffles. This was a great breakfast, rivaling any of the restaurant breakfasts I had on the remainder of my trip! We love Ouray and will return here again, and when we do, we'll stay at the Best Western.

Room Tip: We had a second floor room, which was preferable for us, since cars park directly in front of the fi...

My husband and I honeymooned here almost three years ago! It was amazing. The rooms were really nice and comfortable. My favorite thing about this hotel is that after a long day of driving the trails you can walk right down to the hotels hot springs. It was nice not having to pay to go to the hot springs and they were just right there. The breakfast in the morning was also amazing...more than just your bagels and orange juice. The only negative thing that sticks out is the soda in the machines, every one we got was expired by at least a year. But fear not, that will not detour us from staying here again!

What agreat time we had at Twin Peaks Lodge. The Manager, Tim Walters went out of his way to insure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable vacation. All the amenities were provided and everything was clean and well cared for. We will return and will recommend this place to our friends.

Room Tip: No elevator yet. So if you have trouble with stairs ask for a downstairs room.

Highlights: yummy breakfast; hot springs pool facility
The room (116) was pretty basic, although there was a small frig. There were no screens on the windows but the bugs seemed pretty rare. The bed was pretty comfortable - i.e., not rock firm the way eery hotel seems to do it these days. However, it was funny how high the bed was, given a platform, a thick box, and the mattress itself. Fortunately, we created no sprained ankles coming down from the bed. The floor from the room to the sink area had an incline and decline as though the pipes for the tube ran underneath. We never quite adjusted to that, so there was some ever-so-slight stumbling. We were lucky we didn't have smokers outside our room like a recent reviewer.

Tucked toward Box Canyon, the location keeps you away from any noise from revelers at bars on Main Street.

The breakfast was delicious. The fellow cooking the made-to-order omelets knew how to avoid overcooking (a very rare skill in my long, repeated experience with hotels). He and the rest of the breakfast staff were very friendly, polite, and industrious. The breakfast area was on the 2nd floor of a detached building beside the pool area. Staff sped around, bussing dishes to an unseen dishwasher and filling emptied items. The coffee seemed to be fine with most of the diners but I found it mediocre, though this is typical of hotel breakfast coffee.

The pool complex consists of a large outdoor swimming pool, an outdoor hot tub, and an indoor hot tub. All are heated by incoming water from a natural hot spring, and were delightful. The pool seemed like about body temperature, rather like a therapy pool, which was delightful in the cool mountain air. The tubs are supposed to give you a choice of about 102 degrees and 104 degrees. The indoor tub was large. Music was unobtrusively piped to each area. We really enjoyed the lack of chlorine, as the water in each is continuously refreshed by new water. To top it all off, the days we were there, families with children were actually keeping their kids in check (no yelling nor heavy splashing) so that everyone was having a good time.

When we arrived in town (passing through, but decided to stay) we noticed that most of the hotels had no vacancy signs up. This hotel was a bit off the main drag and the exterior looks a bit old so we stopped at the Chamber of Commerce to ask advice. The girl assured us that it was well run and we had no need to worry.

The staff was polite and helpful. The rooms were updated and clean. We liked having the pool and hot springs.

We had 2 meal at the proprety: a pizza at the onsite Tiki Bar restaurant (very good) and breakfast the following morning that was included. It was a full breakfast - even had a omelet station - and everyone in our group enjoyed it (still the favorite breakfast of the trip for one person!)

Our only regret is that we did not stay in town another night!

Nice clean hotel in this beautiful area. The Best Western also might be the best place in the whole area to stay....
