We just returned from Ouray and 3 nights at Black Bear Manor. We have travelled alot and stayed in a number of B&B's and this rivals the best of them. It would be difficult to find more friendly and hospitable people than Phil and Lucie. They are super accomodating and attendant to your needs. Even their small Scottie dog has personality. We stayed in a first floor select room that was clean and quiet and had an outside entrance. Everything was well maintained and cared for. Easy to find, lots of parking and a nice outside deck area. Very well decorated and bountiful flowers. Lucie's cooking is great and there are just so many good choices even if you're watching your diet. This was our fourth trip to Ouray and on number five we will stay here again. I can't imagine how you could do better!

After reading all of the wonderful reviews here, we were so excited to get to the Black Bear Manor on our recent vacation to the Colorado mountains. We were not disappointed! We stayed in room 5, a standard room on the ground floor. Although a "standard room" we did not feel "standard"; the bed was large and comfortable with lovely bedding and plenty of pillows, and the room included a large shower (but no tub), television with Direct TV, and small outside porch with a small table and chairs to enjoy. The innkeepers were so amazingly warm and welcoming, and Lucie won my heart immediately when we she let us check in early after a night of camping (since I desperately needed a shower and a nap)! We enjoyed the excellent quality bottle of complimentary cabernet on the comfortable leather couches in the upstairs observatory along with wonderful chocolates that we bought in town! The views of the surrounding peaks were breathtaking! They even had a music system set up to play soft music to set a wonderful mood while enjoying the sunset or the stars. I haven't even mentioned the AMAZING breakfasts that were prepared for us each morning of our stay. We were so indulgently satisfied, that we literally were not hungry again until dinner. Smudge, the mascot, was the most sweet docile doggy ever, and made me smile everytime I saw her! The B & B was located easily within walking distance of all of the shops and restaurants on the main strip in town. I assure you that every detail was noted and taken care of, and there is no question about it, that if we were to return to Ouray as a couple, we would immediately call Black Bear Manor and plan our trip around their availability. We would not hesitate to highly recommend this B&B to any family and friends who were going to visit Ouray.

This may be the finest example of a first class bed and breakfast in an outstanding and scenic location. The owners are gracious hosts and dedicated to providing the finest experience. This is a great location for an overnight stay or a week long vacation. I give it 6 STARS.

Arriving at the Black Bear Manor for a 3 night stay during our 18 night vacation to 6 states we immediately felt completely at home. We stayed in the Royal Suite which was simply wonderful! A lovely comfortable king bed, fireplace, sitting area, double jetted tub and double shower too. There is also a great hot tub accessed from the exterior door to the rooms, whilst from the interior entrance you can access the house. The observatory on the third floor is the perfect place to relax with the complimentary bottle of wine, “would you prefer red or white?” Phil asked. Phil and Lucie are the nicest hosts we have ever met in our 21 trips to the USA. Smudge the dog is delightful too! Breakfast was out of this world – you have heard of the “All Day Breakfast”, well this is the “All Day and Most of the Night Breakfast” – the quality and variety was superb! Lucie is an inspirational cook thinking up new recipes like carrot and chocolate chip muffins, they were a great success! The location of the Black Bear Manor is perfect to stroll to the many great restaurants Ouray has to offer. Ouray is simply fantastic, the altitude is 8000 feet and is surrounded by mountains with a waterfall at each end of the town, both within walking distance. Box Canyon Falls are incredible, especially in the snow we experienced this May! One morning we had to clear 8 inches of snow off the car which had fallen during the night, we Brits had never seen that much snow fall in one night before! Black Bear Manor is the perfect place to experience the beauty of this area and the company of Phil & Lucie and the other guests attracted to this amazing place means one thing for sure - we will be back!

We are from Southern Louisiana and we have 6 sisters that get together every year. This year we chose Grand junction, Colorado. We had a friend that wanted to come sight seeing with us and we traveled the southwest part of the state. One of our stops was in Ouary at a B&B. The bed and breakfast was superb. We stayed on the bottom floor next to the hot tub. We used the hot tub at night while it was snowing and was an enjoyable experience. The B&B had three floors and the top floor had a picture window that looked out at the mountains that was breathtaking and covered with snow. The B&B had given us a bottle of wine to relax when we first arrived. The couple that owned the B&B were very helpful with restaurants and activities in Ouray. The room was very nice and bathrooms large. The food was outstanding. I am from the South and I wanted some of her receipes. There were so much food to chose at breakfast. We really enjoyed our experience and will return when we come back to Colorado.
