This may be the finest example of a first class bed and breakfast in an outstanding and scenic location. The owners are gracious hosts and dedicated to providing the finest experience. This is a great location for an overnight stay or a week long vacation. I give it 6 STARS.

Arriving at the Black Bear Manor for a 3 night stay during our 18 night vacation to 6 states we immediately felt completely at home. We stayed in the Royal Suite which was simply wonderful! A lovely comfortable king bed, fireplace, sitting area, double jetted tub and double shower too. There is also a great hot tub accessed from the exterior door to the rooms, whilst from the interior entrance you can access the house. The observatory on the third floor is the perfect place to relax with the complimentary bottle of wine, “would you prefer red or white?” Phil asked. Phil and Lucie are the nicest hosts we have ever met in our 21 trips to the USA. Smudge the dog is delightful too! Breakfast was out of this world – you have heard of the “All Day Breakfast”, well this is the “All Day and Most of the Night Breakfast” – the quality and variety was superb! Lucie is an inspirational cook thinking up new recipes like carrot and chocolate chip muffins, they were a great success! The location of the Black Bear Manor is perfect to stroll to the many great restaurants Ouray has to offer. Ouray is simply fantastic, the altitude is 8000 feet and is surrounded by mountains with a waterfall at each end of the town, both within walking distance. Box Canyon Falls are incredible, especially in the snow we experienced this May! One morning we had to clear 8 inches of snow off the car which had fallen during the night, we Brits had never seen that much snow fall in one night before! Black Bear Manor is the perfect place to experience the beauty of this area and the company of Phil & Lucie and the other guests attracted to this amazing place means one thing for sure - we will be back!

We are from Southern Louisiana and we have 6 sisters that get together every year. This year we chose Grand junction, Colorado. We had a friend that wanted to come sight seeing with us and we traveled the southwest part of the state. One of our stops was in Ouary at a B&B. The bed and breakfast was superb. We stayed on the bottom floor next to the hot tub. We used the hot tub at night while it was snowing and was an enjoyable experience. The B&B had three floors and the top floor had a picture window that looked out at the mountains that was breathtaking and covered with snow. The B&B had given us a bottle of wine to relax when we first arrived. The couple that owned the B&B were very helpful with restaurants and activities in Ouray. The room was very nice and bathrooms large. The food was outstanding. I am from the South and I wanted some of her receipes. There were so much food to chose at breakfast. We really enjoyed our experience and will return when we come back to Colorado.

This B & B was a wonderful place to stay in our short trip to Colorado. My husband and I were travelling for his brother's wedding, and we were part of a very large group that stayed at the place. Phil and Lucie (the innkeepers) really know how to handle a very large group of people, and they were very patient and gracious-- even allowing small children to stay at the property for this special occasion. We had the pleasure of staying one extra night after the large group had left, and received a cheese, fruit and craker tray in our room when we came up after sitting in the wonderful hot tub (and we didn't even ask for it!). They also have wine, beer, coffee, and teas available at no extra charge, as well as tasty chocolate truffels when they clean your room. The room was a little small for the price, but the hospitality, DELICIOUS breakfast and comfort well made-up for the slightly high-priced rooms.

“Best Place I've Ever Stayed”

As a pilot I can say that I've stayed in my fair share of hotels and other lodging places. Black Bear Manor is the best place I have ever stayed in my life. My wife and I were there for our honeymoon the second week in May. Lucy and Phil were fantastic hosts. From the time we checked in we were treated like royalty. Our room was upgraded for no charge just because they had a nicer room that wasn't sold. We are vegetarians and when we told Phil and Lucy they went out of their way to make sure we got food that fit our diet. They even went and got us vegetarian breakfast meat!! Breakfasts were amazing! There was more food than anyone could eat and it was all scrumptious. There was such variety and Lucy cooks it all every morning. (You can tell she loves it because it's some of the best food I've ever eaten!) I kept telling my wife that it didn't feel like a bed and breakfast. It felt like we were staying with family. I can't wait to go back. It made our honeymoon amazing!!
