This property has very nice grounds, but needs to update bedding. Bring your own pillow unless you like square hard pillows. My sheets had 2 long dark strands of hair on them and the sheets had pills/balls, which I do not like. The towels were stained from who knows what. Either they need to start washing and sanitizing at a higher temperature or invest in some new linens. Overall the lodge is "ok". I however will try somewhere else as there are several to choose from within a very short span.

I stayed in the Cascade Falls Lodge for 5 nights (Sept. 23-28th). The Lodge is very clean and comfortable. The Lodge is owned and ran by the owners. I have stayed at a few other accomadations in and around Ouray over a 15 year period. Some of the ones that are chains, the people just work there and pass on if there are any questions or problems. Not with the Lodge, these owners take your staying with them personal. The lodge rooms have the small handy refrigerators, a hot tub on the campus, and half price tickets to the Hot Springs. If you are in need of anything else, I know the owners would be very helpfull. Everything in town is within walking distance. I spent 8 days in Colorado leaf peeping and jeeping. In this time, the Lodge was the most affordable place I stayed.
If you have any questions, I will be glad to answer them.
Happy trails,
SandBilly

“A Little Buggy, but Nice!”

Ouray, CO is a little town surrounded on all sides by mountains. Passing through on a trip last year, I decided that I had to come back and stay for a while. The views there are just breathtaking!

The Cascade Falls Lodge is located just a couple of blocks off of the main street, so it is within walking distance of the shops and restaurants. The furnishings in the rooms are all distinct and unique. It felt more "homey" than a lot of motels I have stayed in. My room had a refrigerator and a microwave, as do each of the rooms there. Unfortunately, my fridge had a bit of an odor problem. I only kept pop in there, so it wasn't a problem, but had I wanted to keep food in there I would have had to have asked for another room.

The weather in Ouray is beautiful, and it doesn't usually get hot enough for air conditioning, but each room does have an air conditioner as well as a box fan. I did need to use the air conditioning, and that's where the bugs come in. Literally! After finding several moth-like bugs, some alive, some dead, in my bed on two mornings, I realized that they were being blown in through the air conditioner, which was unfortunately right over my head! My last night there I opted for the box fan instead of the air conditioner, just to limit the amount of unwelcome visitors.

Although I didn't use it, there is a hot tub on the premises. Also, the lodge gives you discount passes for the local hot springs and pool, which is nice if you're traveling with kids. In addition, the rooms come with coffee makers and coffee as well as satellite TV with HBO.

The owners were staffing the desk when I checked in and made me feel very much welcomed and at home. Although I didn't need anything during my stay, I feel that they would have been most accommodating to whatever need I might have.

The location makes an excellent central point for visits to nearby Silverton, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Red Mountain, as well as the various attractions right there in Ouray. Add to that the reasonable price for such a beautiful area, and you have yourself a winner in the Cascade Falls Lodge!

Management Response

Though this review was written in 2005, I feel a need to respond to the A Little Buggy, but Nice review of our lodge. I did not respond at the time to this review feeling that if I denied the bug issue people would simply think of course I would deny we have bugs in our rooms. Every time I glance back at this review however, it puzzles me and at the same time saddens me to the point I felt the need to respond to this review.

First let me say our rooms are kept extremely clean to the point of being immaculate. I insist upon the cleanliness of our rooms and have top notch housekeepers who diligently clean as instructed. The refrigerators are cleaned daily and if someone puts something smelly in a refrigerator, we will work very hard to make sure the offensive odor is gone before the next guest arrives. I check the rooms and all appliances for cleanliness on a daily basis, but if for some reason I miss a smell in a refrigerator or something else being done in a room to make a guests' stay as enjoyable as possible, a guest only needs to let me know and we will make sure the problem is corrected immediately.

The air conditioner's are sealed units and could not possibly have bugs in them or blowing out of them. After seeing this review my husband and I went through all of the air conditioners to make sure there was not a way for bugs to get into them and we found no bugs or no way for bugs to get into our air conditioners or blow out of them. My husband and I examined all of our rooms and bedding and did not discover any bugs anywhere in our rooms. I am puzzled why if this gentleman found bugs in his bed on even one morning let alone two mornings that he did not come to the office and tell us this. I would never allow a guest to stay in a room with bugs and especially would never allow a person to be in a bed with any type of critter big or small...

While I am happy this gentleman enjoyed our facilities for the most part, I am saddened that he did not inform my husband or I of his concerns in his room and let us correct them so he had only good thoughts about our facility when he departed.

Please know that we are all about our guests loving our lodge and try very hard to accomodate the guests in a way that makes each person want to come back and see us again!

Thanks!
Sandy and Ted
