Finally made it to the mountains to get away from this Dallas heat and dry days. The location of the Hot Springs Inn is secluded away from the other motels in a rocky canyon, but you can still walk to town (if it is not raining). The rooms are whimsical in decor, kind of tongue in cheek. The beds are incredible! We never needed the ac, just opened the window and let the rushing river lull us to sleep. Helpful front desk. Do not agree with them not letting families with 3 young children stay in the same room. There is plenty of space for 5. That was not a problem for the two of us, however.
The breakfast buffet was sparse, but we enjoy our bacon and eggs on vacations and found the Silver Nugget and Main Street Restaurant to be good and reasonable. Drove the Yankee Boy Basin in our Toyata 4 runner and made it almost to top just fine. The hike to Cascade Falls is gorgeous. We liked Buen Tiempo and the Courtyard at the Beaumont for dinner. We also drove through Montrose, and had breakfast at Cafe 110, went to a Farmer's Market and then drove on up to Crested Butte, where they were having a wonderful art festival.
