This motel is totally new from top to bottom. It took them 2 years to build it we were told. It just opened in late June of 2005. No expenses were spared in the building of this lovely place. Attention to details is very obvious everywhere you look. It has a cowboy/western motif running throughout. It is also one of the few motels in Ouray that has air-conditioning. That's not that important in the cool evenings and nights, but sometimes during the middle of the day you'll be glad you have it.
The lady running the front desk was very nice. Our check-in wasn't til 2pm. Having to check-out of our hotel in Silverton at 11am, we arrived in Ouray a little after 12pm. We originally were just going to ask her to recommend a good place to eat lunch and kill some time til we could check in since we were early. She not only told us a good place to go, but went ahead and let us check in early to a room that had just been cleaned.
The minute we saw the room, we were just awestruck. The beds are huge!! There are 2 to each room. They advertise them as "kings" but they have to be California Kings, they are BIG! I am 5'10" tall, and they came up to the top of my legs. I became very aware of the tallness factor when in the middle of the night I needed to get out of the bed for something, and it took a minute before my feet finally hit the floor! :)
The pillows were so soft, they felt like down pillows if I am correct. The beds were very comfortable (and I am picky having slept on a waterbed for the last 25 years).
The furniture is all new, no mix-matched stuff here! The lamps
that sit on the dressers are made out of antlers, very cute. The rest of the room has trac lighting. The bathroom was a good size with really attractive large tiles on the floor. There is a little seating area with 2 leather chairs. There is brand new microwaves and refrigerators in the rooms. Plus a room safe to keep your valubles in. I believe the t.v. was a 27" flat-screen. The reception was excellant, no fuzzy pictures!
But the best part of all was the river. Right outside, on your
balcony, there is the Uncomphrage River going by ( I might not have spelt the name of the river correctly). All the rooms have balconies that look out onto the river. The sound is awesome. We often left the door open just so we could hear the sound of the river. My husband spent 80% of his time sitting out there. There is a trail next to the river, and you can watch people jogging, walking their dogs, or just plain walking.
The only down-size to me was the Continental Breakfast (that's why I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5). It was a little on the sparse side.
You could have cold ceral, muffins, white powered doughnuts, toast,
etc. I think if they would work a little bit on increasing the variety, they would have a top notch motel. However, if this is all you need for breakfast, or are not a big breakfast eater, you'll be fine. And since the rooms were so nice, I forgave them and just ate a bigger lunch!
They do not allow pets or for pets to be left in your car. They
added the "left in your car" part after the July 4th holidays when people would arrive with their pets and leave them in their cars or tied to their cars. I agree completely with them on this issue. That is cruel to the pets. If you are traveling with animals, get a motel/hotel that allows pets. There are plenty of them in Ouray.
While there is a no smoking policy in the rooms, you can smoke
outside on your balcony.
We will now only stay here everytime we visit Ouray. This place is great! We only wish our hotel/motel rooms that we had in Silverton and Montrose had been so nice! I would had loved to stay our entire 7 day vacation here at Hot Springs Inn!!
